Great warm-modern atmosphere and mellow vibe. I found it worth noting that the music volume was perfect... not loud, but created good atmosphere. The front room was mostly communal table seating with long banquette along wall, limited bar seating, I didn't go to the other room. Very nice quality food menu of small plates. I like the interesting vegetable options (the broccoli rabe was simple but very good) and small plates (I had the duck confit which was a fairly small duck portion and generous serving of green salad with pomegranate and pine nuts and a crouton with fois gras butter). Service was a bit aloof, but attentive. They seemed to know their beer. They are very strict with ID's... they take it from you and scan it at the bar because of some past issue serving underage people. Their beer selection is good with a decent selection of locals, imports, and craft brews from coast to coast. Not the most amazing list I've ever seen, but pretty nicely curated. A bit pricey, but really not bad for NY. Overall a great place.

Spitzer's is a classy-cool beer bar in the heart of LES. Lively but not too crazy on a Friday evening, happy hour time. Cool vibe with dim lights, open windows to the street in this pleasant November day... lots of wood and communal tables.
Big beer list divided in lagers/wheats/seasonals/ales (this one a mixed-bag category with tripels, blondes, IPA's and porters). Nothing super crazy on the list, but some solid references: I had a Founders Breakfast Stout and a Green Flash Imperial IPA.
Prices are not-so-cheap at $7-$8 per brew, but happy hour comes with two dollars off! Now that is a rarity in New York City. Sour young hipster-ish bartenders, disengaged but efficient enough. She even smiled at me.
Surprisingly quiet for a Friday evening, I had a good time. Didn't try food but will do next time, as it looks better than your average beer bar's grub.

Cool place that I stumbled upon while my wife was shopping in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
Dark, lots of wood, and really open. I sat by the big open windows and people watched the hipsters, and cars honking and yelling at each other.
Quality was good, saw lots of good taps, some Belgians, Captain Lawrence, Founders, Southern Tier, Troegs, etc...
Service was good, she was friendly, and came over and brought me a second beer without me having to go up to the bar.
Selection was great, 40 taps with lots of variety.
Didn't try the food, but it looked tasty.
Prices were about on par for NYC, but the $2 off drafts for the Noon-7PM Happy Hour was great.
Overall, a very worthy stop in the LES.

Spitzer's Corner is cool. Nice setup and design with wood everywhere. At night, this place can get really packed. For me, I prefer a more mellow atmosphere, so I'm a lunch time visitor. Plus, the nighttime crowd is...how do I say it...prone to being a-holes? Yes. That's it. So I do it how I do The Blind Tiger. Start the drinkin' early here. If you're in the neighborhood, this is a good place to check out. And the food is quite good. Oh...and there are a lot of taps to choose from.
I think I hear that this is a good place to meet people, at night.

Price wise they were high, But the selection is pretty awesome. I've been here a couple times when I used to live right down the stree from em on essex. It's got a great selection and the food menu looks great although Ive never tried it. The waitresses and tenders are friendly and pretty knowledgeable about their beer, so that was definitely refreshing.
I've tried over 15 beers for the first time over here and had a lot of repeats that I've had before. sometimes the glass sizes are ridiculous for the price but I guess that's expensive beer for ya. Good plave worth checking out if you like a wide selection. One thing I found a little ridiculous was they would not seat you unless you ordered food, even if you were a group of 5 who were serious beer drinkers. that was the only part that ticked me off and their prices for being how basic it looks like.
And fyi this isn't the East village , it's the Lower East Side represent!!

Eastern Village quality beer spot...open floor plan with large windows out onto the vibrant and busy street ...Long communal tables, and generally a friendly comfortable feeling. Loads of quality draft options...you fill find something very BA worthy to consume and enjoy.
The reason I would not frequent this place all that often is the crowd...Hipsters, tourists, clothes shoppers, meh just not my sceene...if you find yourself in the neighborhood and are in the mood for a tasty craft brew, its worth dropping in to...beyond that I cant say much more positive...the kind of place I might take some of my french cousins to for a visit

Nice vibe in this place with the communal tables and open windows. We hung out for a while in the front area , then moved to the more quiet back....which is also nice.
Beer selection was awesome. We had Pretty Things Hegderow and Sixpoint Sweet Action. 40 taps. I have to say that whoever writes the beer descriptions on the menu either has a great palate, does their homework....or both, because the descriptions of all their beers that I've had; that being most of them, was right on the mark. Excellent.
Also had a light dinner...catfish sandwich and scallops...both excellent.
Our bartender was very friendly and had no problems giving tastes prior to ordering.
We will go back for sure.
So, kind of funny...I am over 55 years old and I was carded...so I guess you can expect to be carded too !

Stopped in to end a great night with a couple friends.
A small lunch-like room with community tables with long benches, as well as some stools around the perimeter of the room. Dimly lit atmosphere with the audible levels still a bit high, considering it was about 2 AM. Quality of the beers were great – 40 different taps available. Decent variety for everyone to try. Service was a bit inattentive and unusual. Bartender asked to see all 6 people's stamped hand before taking our order. If the bouncer checked our IDs for age, why the need? Anyway, we got finally got our beers, which was the always dependable Weihenstephan Hefe for $7 each. Decently priced overall.
Didn't try the food here, but Katz Deli is about 2 blocks away!

Grilled heavily by the doorman, not a good reception. Came insider - not a seat in the house, except for a bench seat with no table. A bar waiting area. No server ever came by, so we sat with no beers until finally two seats opened at the bar. And still we sat for several minutes - at the bar - until someone even looked at us.
I'm going to go ahead and get all the bad stuff out now. Crowded, full of yuppies assholes, extremely slow service. Do NOT tell the bartender you're not ready - if you are halfway done, get another beer. Ask for your check 20-30 minutes before you want to leave. And if the bartender is giving you any attention, blurt out the first thing that comes to mind, because once he walks away, he's gone.
The food was great. The beers available are eclectic and uniformly excellent. The building itself is cool, especially when the huge windows are open (they close them somewhat arbitrarily it would seem, similar to the policy at the Blind Tiger). I had a wide variety of beers, and they all pulled well from the tap, nothing dirty, sour, or old. Spitzer's is a great place to drink beer.
But damn if there isn't a lot of shit in the way of getting to the beer.

This place is aesthetically attractive, but I had the feeling that the crowd was comprised of yuppies rather than true beer fans.
Patrons not withstanding, the draught selection was good... predominantly domestic craft beer, but an impressive selection nonetheless. While the beer manu was impressive with overall content, I was disappointed with the way it was put together... they begun categorizing beers by style (wheat, bock, ipa, etc.), but then seemed to get lazy by lumping roughly 30% of the beer in a catchall "ale" category. I was further disappointed to see their best bottled beer, Samiclaus, described as "strong shite from Austria".
The beer itself was served inacceptable glassware, and tasted fresh. I didn't have the opportunity to assess the knowledge of the server, but have no reason to doubt his knowledge based on service itself.
Overall the beer was good, but the atmosphere left something to be desired...
