Well, I was in Amsterdam, and because the US market doesn't receive this beer, it was the time to cure my curiosity. Served on-tap in its own branded glass. On to the beer:
Looks quite good. Its pale gold color, creamy head, and whispy lace which it leaves sends a good signal to the eyes. Oh, how I've seen this before. Nose is....bland. Husky malt, rotting citrus, and did somebody throw a popsicle stick in front of me?
Not good, just not good. Somebody took the leftover malt after the mashing and fed it to me. Soaked grain, husky, that's not very appealing. It's like chewing on bubblegum which had the sugar already sucked out. At least in its light medium body comes an acceptable carbonation rate (nothing like overcarbonated American light lager, thank goodness).
The curiousity is cured, but my mouth would like a different beer next. Amstel Lager might just be a novelty item for American tourists like me who (thankfully) can't get this version stateside.

On-tap at Pannenkoekenrestaurant Oude Mueller, Utrecht, Netherlands
A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and some lacing down the sides.
S: Light aromas of pilsener malts are present in the nose along with some hints of bready malts.
T: The taste is filled with flavors of pilsener malts and also has hints of floral hops. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a basic pilsener but it is very easy to drink.
