Poured into a perfect pint. "Natasha Rocks America" on lable.

4.0 A: Black color. Two and a half fingers of frothy light brown head. Retention is good with lots of lacing left.

3.75 S: Hoppy as hell. Floral, citrusy, piney, herbal, and earthy in that order. The hops pretty much overshadow everything else, but you can pick up on a solid roastiness, a touch of chocolate, and hints of rye. Not a huge fan of hoppy stouts, but this one at least smells good.

3.25 T: Like every other hoppy stout out there, the hops don't mesh well with the dark, roasty flavors. Jumble of roast, hop bitterness, citrusy hoppiness, chocolate, herb and flower, and rye. Everything is out of place with everything else. It's slightly more palatable than most hoppy stouts, so I gave it a minor boost.

3.25 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Not as creamy as I'd like, which is a shame since it could easily be that way.

3.0 D: Not a huge fan. I want my hops in IPAs and my roasted barley in my stouts. I wish brewers would cut back on "being creative."

No “Natasha Rocks America” on BA, so I’m guessing this “Natasha Rocks Denmark” is the Fanø version of this collaboration – though the pic is the Hoppin’ Frog “America” label.

A: Creamy chocolate brown body with an inch-high tan head that leaves lacing all over as it falls. Retention never gets more than a wafer-thin layer over the body.

S: Mineral water aromas play hand-in-hand with pungent American hops – resinous, oily pine – with hints of bitter pumpernickel spice. The malt character, though, is what really brings this to a higher level, emanating with a gorgeous mix of sweet chocolate and crisp grains: I’m getting dark chocolate, roasted grain, and vanilla, as well as a dead-on tone of graham cracker. The grain scents go deep in this nose, and that’s just the way I like it.

T: A sweet, hefty palate – every sip is filled to the brim with residual sugars. Marshmallow, tobacco, toasted oak, anise, Hershey’s cocoa, and smoky roasted malt give this a s’mores character through-and-through, sweet in so natural a way that it’s never cloying. Roasts tighten to bitters as the hops rise in a wave of chili pepper, pine needles, and cinnamon, a thick interpretation of American hopping. Caramel and baked apple in the aftertaste, finishing with earthy sweetness.

M: Creamy but not incredibly viscous –milky, I’d say. A subtle texture, not filling at all.

O: Another Hoppin’ Frog stout done right, and this time with a definite flair of something different, thanks to Fanø. A great stout with all the flavor of dark malt, not just sugar.

I had this on-tap at Max's during Baltimore Beer Week.

Appearance: The beer pours almost black with some red at the edges when the light hits the pour. There is a thin ring of light tan head on top of the pour.

Smell: I'm getting tons of slightly burnt roast and some mild hops. There is a sweetness behind the bitter flavors along with some dark chocolate.

Taste: The hops and burnt roast flavors clash a bit. There isn't much sweetness here to balance things out. There is just a touch of dark chocolate in the background. The finish is really bitter and roasty.

Mouthfeel: The body is just a bit on the thin side with full carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: The black IPA quality to this beer bothered me. I think strong hop and roast combinations need to be well thought out. Too intense for me, just alright.

On tap at Max's the other day.

The beer pours a blackish brown color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is certainly intriguing in this beer, as I get the expected coffee and licorice, but with considerable smoke as well. The flavor profile replicates the nose, but with the smoke and licorice really dominating in this beer in a big way. It completely dries out the modest sweetness I get from the coffee and light malt, ultimatley to the point that I think it hurt this beer on the finish. Mouthfeel is at most medium bodied, with a long smoke, licorice and alcoholic finish.

An interesting beer, but not one that really works for me.
