Went here for the first time yesterday during Zwicklemania 2009 the brewery was having an open-house. Grabbed a bite to eat first, sitting right next to the door that separates the brewery from the restaurant. My wife and I shared a pulled pork sandwich with fries (awesome) and I had a half pint of one of their seasonals (the Elvis commemorative ESB which was pretty damn scrumptious). While we were waiting for the food to arrive, we made several trips into the brewery to get samples of their 2009 Barleywine, 2007 Bourbon-barrel barleywine, Beer X, Vanilla Porter, and the Espresso Stout. All were exceedingly awesome. They also had chocolate truffles on offer. The Chocolate Cherry Truffles were AMAZING! My wife fell in love with them and said they were the best truffles she has ever tasted (and that says a lot because we lived in Belgium for a year!). We asked the head brewer where they got them. They were made by the brewpub's chef! Definitely, keep your eye out for those! He promised they would make them again.
This is a Portland MUST! Their beers are par-excellence and their food is too. Everyone's tastes differ, but I doubt you'd be disappointed with ANY of their beers, so whichever ones you try, you're good to go.
Speaking of "to go", they also offer pretty much any available beer to take with you. You can even bring in a cornelius keg for a fill (though not the same day and you can only get beers that they are not running low on).

Laurelwood has been great on multiple occasions for me. I love going there with a close friend, or a group. I've also purchased a keg there in the past, at the last minute for a friends party…and afterward, it was such a hit that I had to go back. I usually go for a tree hugger or space stout, but love to try whatever is new!
The service is always great there, the people seem light-hearted and happy to be there. The food is awesome (my personal favorite the pulled pork sandwich, and their amazing cheesy garlicky fries!), and they have some really rocking apparel to get on your way out. I love this place so much, and am happy to see the two locations in the Portland Airport now…I take some back east with me every time I fly! Too bad I haven't been able to crack open a growler on the plane ;)
Thanks for being one of my very favorites!

Stopped by for zwickelmania today. Laurelwood has the feel of an average size pub. While they have a decent restaurant operation inside, they have a packed brewing operation in the back half of the building. I had a pint of workhorse up at the bar, the bartenders there were nice, clearly had some knowlege of beer which I always appreciate. The beers they had on tap were about 8-10 of their regulars plus a 3-4 seasonals. Lots of bottles are available to-go. Though I didn't have any food while I was there, I did notice quite a few people eating lunch, so I am guessing the food is decent. I enjoy laurelwood's beers and their location is decent too, I'll likely be heading back in the future.

One thing I loved about this place was the pervasive aroma of wort that filled my nasal cavity before I even walked through the door. Laurelwood is a medium-sized venue, with the bar just adjacent to the brewing area, and lots of table room. Average restauranty, comfort dining atmosphere; no real dismal barfly charm here. Service was pretty slow all around; the bartender was nice enough, but seemingly way in over her head for the crowd she had to attend to, and the staff at the cashier/merch stand were surprisingly inept...but it was all still within a reasonable threshold of tolerance. Beer selection was good, with a decent range of house-brewed options available. Nothing really stood out as extraordinary, but nothing was really bad. Food was good; mainly comfort items on the menu with perhaps just a slight bias towards TexMex. Prices were reasonable. A good stop on our trip, but not necessarily a "beer connoisseur's" paradise.

This seemed to be a popular place, as the lot was full and I had to park blocks away. I bought a flight and most were solid, but the Workhorse IPA might have been the best I tried out of the many I had on the coast. As I type this, I wish I had bought more than two bottles, as they did not last long. Place had a good neighborhood vibe, filled with locals who enjoy a good beer. I didn't have any food and am unsure they have good. The selection was ok, as it seems most if all their choices leaned on the safer side of things. I probably would stop here again... no I would because I would have to get another fresh Workhorse again.
