Visited on Sat. of Columbus Day weekend. Got there just after it opened , so very few people were there. We sat at the bar and had lunch. The bartender was very friendly ( Brady ?) and when he saw that we were having a hard time deciding on a beer , started pouring us samples of everything he heard us discussing. Burton Ale, Oktoberfest, Secret Ale, Pumpkin...I decided on the Burton and my girlfriend had an Ocktober fest...both very good. Had the Bratwurst sandwich and she had the crabcake sandwich ..both good..not the best brat I've had , but OK. My girlfriend noticed a woman getting sweet potato fries and said that if she knew that they were on the menu she would have ordered them instead of the regular fries. About five minutes later , Brady handed us a big bowl of sweet potato fries w/o charge.
I had an Espresso stout next, which was very good too.
A good experience ...too bad it's located so far away. The traffic that day was absolutely awful....not a lot of options for alternate routes to avoid it. The Publick House was the highlight of the day.

After much anticipation, I finally made it out for dinner. The place was nice, a historic structure in a beautiful town. The beers, as already known, are quite good to excellent. I skipped all the regular stuff and had some of the specialty bottles. Abbot 12, Grand Cru, Old Herb. All excellent and worth the trip. The service was fine. The only complaint I have is that the food really was not good enough. This is a nice restaurant, not cheap, incredible beer with a huge reputation. The food really let me down. Maybe they were having an off night, but the place was almost empty and nobody at my table of five had much good to say about their eats. Oh well, still worth the trip for the beer and atmosphere.

My first trip to the hamptons .... so obviously, this was a required stop for me.
Nestled in the heart of town, Southampton Publik House was a welcomed stop to make, and worth the diversion of the LIE.
The selection of brews is somewhat overwhelming, and I really didn't know where to start. So, when in doubt, do a flight. I enjoyed several year-round brews as well as a few seasonals. I've had beers from here before, but never so many in one sitting.
After the flight, it was time to buckel down and make a choice.... so I order up a pint of IPA. A great choice (especially since I'm an IPA guy).
I really can't offer up any constructive criticisms, which for me, is unusual. The service was fine, the food was good (had a great burger), the atmposphere was really nice, and the beer ... well, you just can't go wrong here.
My only regret is that this place is so far out on the island.
Hmm, there's a constructive criticism ... open up second location a bit more inland :)

Jasons (Knightly Spirits) assertion of Southampton as the best brewery in the world raised my expectations quite a bit going into the publick house. Despite my preconceived notions, my expectations were exceeded by 20 times. The ambience & Food were great & most importantly every beer I had was a perfect 5. As far as Beer, I started with what seemed like a frustrating selection as they were out of the cuvee du fleur & Russian imperial stout which is what I really wanted to try the most. Brady recommended the maibock & the Bavarian Weiss, & ended up sharing his personal stash of grand cru with us. We talked brewing with Spence for a while who was a really cool guy & obviously an amazing brewer himself (Sidenote - also very humble as I was later told that the double white we were so impressed with was Spences design & not Phils but he never said so) & shared quite a few beers with us out of his personal cellar. The greatest of these was 2003 Trappist pale ale & the double white. Most special to us, we were able to share several of our own beers with him. If you love beer especially if you brew, & want to meet other beer geeks this is the place to be!! Spence showed us the entire brewery & we just had a good time. We ended up paying for almost nothing. Needless to say, we walked out of there with several cases of amazing beer & a magical night of unbelievable craft beer.

I went pretty far out of the way to go to Southampton Publick House, so perhaps my expectations were a bit higher than expected. The food was up to expectation but the beer was way below expectations. It seemed like they had all their normal (boring) beers on tap and nothing special. They also seemed to all taste the same.
On the food side though, we were seated immediately and a waitress brought us menu's and bread immediately. The soup was really good and the burgers were ordered were excellent as well. It was a bit pricey, but that is somewhat to be expected for the hamptons. All in all, I would go there again if I was close, but I won't drive out there again.

Ah...the gool ol' Publick House. Whats more to say? If you havn't been here yet, go now. My Dad remembers this place as Herb McCarthy's, and now it's home to Southampton Publick House. The pub room and bar are to your left, dining room to your right when you walk in. There's also a 2nd bar in back of the dining area that opens when its very busy or for private parties. Another small outdoor bar on the porch opens often in summer. As many of you already know, the beers here are spectacular. My favorites are the French Country Christmas Ale (AKA Biere De Garde), Espresso Stout, and the Saison. You'll find great variety here as seasonals change frequently (usually 2 to 4 per month). Also, the hoity-toity types you find at places like 75 Main rarely venture here. Of course, it is busier in summer but as far the clientele goes, the crowd is pretty much the same during summer and winter, which is great. Food is certainly way above your typical brewpub fare (Tuesday nights are 2 for 1 entrees), the ribs here are amazing and a local favorite. Worth a trip from anywhere.

Located in the upscale town of Southampton, I wasn't sure what to expect. Having visited in January the Publick House was very quiet, which was actually somewhat nice. The bar area was large with what appeared to be some regulars enjoying a Saturday afternoon. The bartender, Brady, was very friendly, knowledgeable and quick to offer you a taste or see if you needed a refill. I had the Southampton IPA and the Yorkshire Pub Ale, both of which I loved. I also tasted the Winter Warmer. While it wasn't my favorite I can see why it got such favorable reviews. Upon leaving we bought a growler of the IPA, a growler of the Secret Ale ,a Biere de Garde, a Grand Cru, three 750's each of the May Bock and the Double White to enjoy at home. I'm really looking forward to drinking them and to visiting Southampton Publick House again. I'm hoping to go when the weather gets warmer to experience the different brews and to see what the summer crowd is like.

I stopped in on an October sunday afternoon to try out Southampton Publick House. I was very impressed with the overall look of the place -- there's a patio outside and the landscaping is beautiful. Inside, dark wood, comfortable booths and tables, and a small-medium sized bar makes up one half of the place, while a restaurant area makes up the other. There are plenty of TVs around, and the vats are viewable behind the bar.
There were about 10 beers on taps, including the Belgian Amber, Octoberfest Lager, Secret Ale, Burton Ale, and Scottish Ale. Unfortuantely, there were no stouts on tap. They also had some of their special beers (10th Anniversary Ale) available in bottles.
I tried the Belgian Amber, Secret Ale, and Octoberfest and really enjoyed them all; the Belgian Amber is one of the best smelling beers I've ever had. The bartender was nice and seemed knowledgeable about the beers on tap. I was hoping to try one of their stouts, especially the Espresso Stout, and I was also expecting them to have Pumpkin Ale on tape (it's widely advertised right now on their website), but that too wasn't available.
However, this was a great stop and I hope to go back there soon!

Vacationing in the area, I was thrilled to be able to finally make it to this location. It lived up to all my expectations, aside from the service. Located in a quaint town in an old inn, the exterior is very inviting with a huge wrap-around porch & nice gardens surrounding.
Once inside, the bar area is spacious & inviting. Waiting at the host stand, my family & I waited a solid 5-10 minutes on a quiet afternoon before anyone showed up to seat us. We were seated at a table overlooking the fermenters below, which was a great additon to the interior decor. Once seated, the waitress did not show up for another 10 minutes to take drink orders. When she did, she was not familiar with the seasonals & confused the cellar offerings with the seasonals. I therefore chose from the standard lineup of beers offered year round.
The food & beer were wonderful. A sampler provided a good overview of their offerings & the food was delicious. Growler fills are available on site, & bottles are for sale although more expensive than local retailers.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable visit & would definitely return.

Grew up on Long Island and I am sad to report my first visit was just a month ago...things are going to change from here on out...
Conveniently located off of Rte. 27 and down the street from Peconic Beverage.
Convenient parking in front or across the street...walk in to view the bar area to your left and the dining room to the right.
The bar has a couple nice size flat screens plus at least 4 other smaller TV's to catch random sporting events. About a dozen or more tables, ranging from one large seating area to 10 or so tables to seat 2 or 3 persons...tall tables within the bar area and regular seaters around the perimeter.
The dining room is casual, but fitting...great views of the tanks with illustrations showing the stages of brewing.
Nice range of brews on tap...on this day, there was the Golden Lager, Light, IPA, Secret Ale, Steam beer, ESB, and the seasonal Bavarian Wheat...I enjoyed a couple samples of the ESB, Bavarian Wheat and a full pint of the IPA. All were super fresh and delicious.
Additonal cellar brews were the Old Herb, Imperial Porter and May Bock.
For our meal, we had a couple appetizers...the calimari and sweet potato fries...both were very tasty. For lunch, my wife enjoyed the Gorgonzola salad and I drooled over the scallop caesar salad...at bit drenched with dressing, but still delish.
Our server was friendly and heading to Bean for college...she was nice enough to throw in a taster and pint glass for free, as I expected them to be added to the bill.
Overall, a great time...can't wait to return.
