Recently, I have come to realize that each of the 3 districts my company has on (dirty) Long Island are within 15 minutes travel of one of the 3 Long Island brewpubs. Coincidence? Nah, I don't think so, divine design perhaps. We have a site in Quogue that I seldom get out to but I finally did, and that means an excursion to Southampton. Sure, the Sunrise Highway shrinks to a mere 1 lane in each direction goat trail and it's jammed with "en route to Montaukers" but I had to head out East to Southampton, had to go, just had to...
Rolled in mid afternoon, main dining room to the right and bar to the left. Seating for upwards of a dozen along the "J" shaped bar, with a brass rail and tile floor trim, a row of fermenters visible through glass in a room behind the bar. Tiered booze runs the length of the bar back, a rack in the center with some glassware, scotchs & Southampton bottles above, blackboards to both sides of center, one with the tap selections and the other with tap room specials, and a glassware rack hanging from the ceiling. 4 raised bar tables in the middle of the floor in front of the fireplace and a large blackboard listing the standards and the seasonals with brief descriptions. There's an attached room with a dozen tables, many sharing a common red pattern bench, pale green walls with wood trim, big slate floors, slat shaded windows, beer trays, and framed prints, various GABF & World Beer Cup awards, and enlarged label displays. TV's in all the corners of both rooms.
In the dining room, a dozen and a half tables, mostly 2 and 4 seaters but some larger round ones in the corners. Exterior brick walls, lime green interiors, posts and beams, shaded windows with wood shutters and the room done with a GABF framed print, vintage Miller & PBR framed ads and old beer trays. A mash tun, grist mill and fermenters in a paneled glass wall corner room with access to below, and to the rear, McSully's Tavern; a back party room with it's own small bar and a nice brewerania collection.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, a single tower with a dozen taps, some of them dupes, some unused. They were pouring 4 of their year round beers, 4 seasonals and a cask. I did the beer sampler of course. The Publick House Porter was outstanding, all caramel and chocolatey and the Bavarian Wheat, unfiltered and fruity was marvelous as well. The Southampton Pale Ale was also very nicely hopped and the Secret Ale, a German brown Alt was smooth and malty. All the beers there were pretty damn great.
They also had a few of their beer in bottles. The Southampton Double White Ale is undoubtably my favorite. It's a Belgian white that packs a whallop. Is beautiful, yes. They've also got the Old Herb Barleywine and the Saison. The beer, it's all good here.
Food? Yeah, they've got food. The good seafood choices you'd expect to find out on the east end and more. I had wings and a burger, but mostly for lunch I'm likely to do the chili and french dip (edit: some evil man who's name I shan't mention here removed the french dip from the menu, so you have to get the grilled sirloin sandwich instead. Comparable, but no dippy stuff), or dinnerwise, the ribs are wonderful, as are the pasta dishes. This last time around we did the Mesquite chicken quesidella rolls and Wasabi seared tuna apps, both were excellent. Actually, I've never had a bad meal here. Always ask for the sweet potato fries. Sat at the bar and chewed the fat with the bartenders, generally you get Alex or Brady. Pretty damn (way out) East but well worth the trip. Good folks, great food and drink.

I grew up in nearby Sag Harbor and the Publick House was my first experience with craft beer. It's essentially the only place in the area with a focus on craft beer which keeps them busy with tourist traffic in the peak season, but the consistently excellent service and reasonable prices keep us locals coming back all year long.
The Publick House is split into two halves, the tap room and the dining room. The dining room is a quiet space with the feel of an upscale restaurant. They take reservations and can be quite busy during the summer. The tap room is the bar area, with about 15 stools at the bar and quite a few tables. The atmosphere can vary. There's a laid-back crowd in the afternoons and early evenings, but at night they often have a DJ or other live music and it can get loud and rowdy.
Quality is high at the Publick House. All of the year-round offerings are solid and they do some excellent seasonals and one-offs. The beers that are part of their 750 series are top notch. It was on hiatus this year, but the one-offs they usually release at their annual RIS release are some of the best beers I've had anywhere.
Service is hard to beat. Don Sullivan, the owner, is very friendly and you can often find him around the restaurant. He's very good to his regulars and always comes by to say hello when I'm in with my father. The bartenders are very friendly - say hi to Brady in the afternoons - and I've always gotten good service in the dining room.
Selection can be hit or miss. They always have their five year-round beers on (an altbier, double white, an English IPA, a pils and a light lager) which are all solid and then 2-4 taps for rotating seasonals. The seasonal selection had gotten a bit stagnant lately with the same beers showing up every year, but I'm hoping with new head brewer Evan Addario taking over this past year we'll see him bring some of his own recipes into the lineup.
The food is great. I've tried most of the menu at this point and it's all well-crafted. It's essentially an upscale pub menu for a nice dinner, but also with some good traditional bar bites if you're looking to have a few apps and a few beers in the tap room.
Value is very good - for the area. If you're coming to visit the Hamptons from somewhere other than NYC, it might seem expensive (as does everything here) when compared to your neighborhood brewpub. If you live in the Hamptons and know that you can't get dinner for 2 with drinks at most places for less than $100, this is a bargain. If you really want a good deal, check out the happy hour on weekdays - cheap beers and they often pass out some free apps.

Stopped by the Southampton Publick House while on vacation in Mid September. The atmosphere is nice, you get past the hedges and they have a nice little deck area for outdoor dining. You walk in and the bar is upfront with the dining room to the right. While you walk to the dining room they have a glass wall which provides a view of the MLT, HLT, and fermentation chamber. Which I thought was pretty cool, a little bit of a nicer set up then my mlt cooler and beer bucket at home.
The quality and service were very good and I enjoyed most of the beers I tried. The only slight issue I had was with the selection, which I found to be a little lacking with only 8 or so beers on tap.
I thought the food was very good with the Mussels being the highlight. I had the fish and chips which was delicious also, my friend ordered the crab cakes which were a little sub par, not bad at all just more filler than you would like. This place is very reasonably priced especially considering the area it's in.
Overall I would definitely recommend stopping by for both the beer and food.
