Mix a six pick up. Twelve ounce bottle, into a pint glass.

Pours hazy copper/bronze. Light layer white foam. Mild pine nose, very light. Taste has a mild bitter, a little gritty and annoying. Very firm bitter finish. Even keeled, but not remarkable.

This is definitely an English ipa. I don't know if it's the beer that's lacking or the continued bombardment of my taste buds that is hampering my judgement. The beer has a thick malt base, though I'd probably say a bit too much really. Hop influence is calm. For an English ipa it works. On this one, it sorta works.

poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic, served at fridge temp.

appearance: hazy, honey colored beer with vigorous carbonation. Thin, offwhite head. perfunctory lacing.

aroma: amazing yeast aroma like baking home made white bread. mild, earthy hop funkiness.
, spicy. a touch of peaches and pears at the end.

mouthfeel: good, medium.

taste: crystal malty with a broad, complex hop bill that is citric, herbal and spicy.

Not bad IPA. Not expecting a hop bomb from an English IPA, didn't gt one!!! Pours a hazy coppery/honey gold color with a small antique white head. Some lacing.

Mild bitterness in the nose.

Taste is balanced between dry bitter hops and biscuity malts. The hops are more prominent in the finish. Overall good flavor.

Mouthfeel is crisp and dry. A bit on the thin side until the hops kick in. There is a slight metallic finish that takes from the overall effect.

On the whole a nice bitter beer, good with food. I prefer the AIPA style, but this is a pretty good take on an English IPA

A - Small head of white foam on top of a hazy copper body. The head settles fairly quickly and leaves light lace.

S - Fruity yeast with notes of plum and red apple as well as lightly herbal hops.

T - Caramel and red apple up front with notes of licorice, plum and cinnamon in the middle. Finishes with spicy hops and licorice yeast character.

M - Medium thick body, moderate carbonation and a slightly sweet finish.

D - Nicely done, a little lacking in the hop character but otherwise quite appropriately British.

Very thin head but nice lacing on a orange golden body. Very woody, mostly cedar and also very nutty with toasted bread and malts fr aroma. Flavors of English malt and yeast, very toasty buscuity and nutty but lightly hopped with an abrupt finish with the flavor being cut off immediately. Medium body and moderate carbonation, a little oily. The English character is excellent. Needs more hops even for the style it is under hopped.

12oz Bottle from CJ's Syracuse NY for 2.75$

Appearance - Clearcopper colour with an average size fizzy beige coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some decent lacing. The head lasted for around 4-5 minutes.

Smell - Hops, malts, caramel, grassy notes, light grapefruit

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste caramel and hops. There is also some very faint grapefruit, a grassiness, and something along the lines of apricots. It ends with a mildly hopped aftertaste with lots of sweet caramel flavour.

Overall – A nice EIPA. I'm a much bigger fan of the American IPA, but this is still a tasty beer. Not something I'd rush out to buy more of, but still nice to have tried.

Appearance
Hazy brownish amber with a short white head that dissipates quickly. Low carbonation.

Nose
Biscuit, toffee, butterscotch and grapefruit.

Taste
Grapefruit juice with splashes of pineapple and mango. Biscuity malts with a restrained toffee sweetness. Finishes lightly fruity with an earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel
Medium bodied, smooth, clean and refreshing.

Overall
Very balanced and easy drinking. A competent English IPA.

Pours burnt-orange with a thick, foamy off white head. Good retention, leaves nice lacing.

Toasty, toffee and caramel malts, with floral, lightly fruity hops in both the nose and taste.

Medium+ body, with mild, foamy carbonation.

An enjoyable English IPA. The taste was just a bit one dimensional in my opinion, but I would be willing to have another of these sometime.

Pours with an amber color, crystal clear with desent carbonation. The head is smallish and white leaving some lacing. Aroma is mostly malt based with hints of hops and minerals. Taste is really good. Balance malts and hops that have a bitter and sweet aspect, sweet and sour. A very good EIPA

An attempt to recreate the traditional Burton IPA, which is believed to be the first IPA brewed back in the early 1800s. They added minerals to the water in an attempt to replicated the water used at Burton-on-Trent when this style was first brewed. Since I'm reading Mitch Steele's IPA book which covers the evolution of the IPA, I was very interested to try this beer.

Pours a deep copper color which is more true to the modern IPA. I was expecting the color to be much lighter as the Burton IPAs were described to be.

Nose is malty with some faint hops

Taste is sweet, malty, with toffee & caramel notes. Some nice earthy hop bitterness on the way down. Definitely has the English IPA characteristics, very balanced, not hop forward like your American IPA.

Not sure how this compares to the original Burton IPA, but the taste is close to what I expected after reading about them. Seek this one out if you want to see what the classic Burton IPA was like. However, don't expect it to be anything like the American IPA we have all come to love.

A. It has a pale bronze color. Fairly see-through. Lots of little bubbles coming up the side. It has a nice white foamy head and some good lacing.

S. It has a good scent of hops.

T. There's a sweet dark fruit grape taste to it. A bit of a watermelon taste., perhaps. Some hop flavor.

M. It has a tart aftertaste and a bit of a hoppy bite.

O. Nice and flavorful. Nothing that really jumps outs except that it is a fruity IPA.

Southampton Burton IPA has a medium, off-white head and a mostly clear, bubbly, reddish-gold appearance, with a good amount of thick lacing left on the glass. There is a rich, roasted, malty aroma and a moderately hoppy, malty flavor, with hints of caramel and toffee. The mouthfeel is medium and Southampton Burton IPA finishes wet, refreshing, and very tasty. Overall, this is excellent.

12 oz bottle into Hardywood Park tulip. no bottled on date.

A: hazy caramel hued body. head is slightly off-white and frothy. retention is good with very good lacing.

S: caramel aroma. fruity. kinda smells like apple juice. perhaps acetaldehyde? a little bit of herbal bitterness, but nothing substantial.

T: slight bitterness throughout. a earthy hop flavor goes along with it. sweet grain provides backbone, but no more than your typical american IPA.

M: moderate carb on a medium body.

D: i feel like this example may not have been the freshest, but it is a shame when there is no bottle conditioning to let the customer know! the acetaldehyde in the nose definitely threw me off as i felt some late kettle, or even dry hopping, additions would have really helped this brew out. not a great example of a not so great style to begin with.

Pale orange in color with excellent clarity. Poured with a short white foam that reduced to a wispy, soapy cap that left sheets of sticky lacings on the glass. Resinous pine and ripe citrus orange hop aromas with sweet caramel malt in the background. Creamy smooth feel with rich carbonation. Pine hop flavors are dominant throughout. Ripe citrus orange and pungent floral hop flavors up front and thru the middle with a sweet caramel malt bacbone. Finishes with a lingering pine hop bitterness.

Poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a lightly hazy bronze-gold color with just a thin cap of off-white head that had no retention or lacing.

The aroma was very nice, good, earthy malts and nicely gentle hops that provided a nice contrast. The flavors were also very good, those same earthy malts were fuller and the hops a bit crisper. The beer was very nicely balanced, and had a dry finish.

The body was smooth, even and well balanced. Drinkability was excellent, I could easily drink these all afternoon. Overall, a very nice take on the style. This is a must try if you see it.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours clear golden with a white head and plentiful streaming bubbles. The head dissipates slowly as expected with this style. The aroma is a nice blend of sweet and bready malts with some earthy and citrus hops. The malt brings a toasted bread flavor with back end earthy bitterness from the hops. There is some citrus in the flavor as well, but this is mild. The body is medium with moderate carbonation. The finish is dry. The drinkability is high. This is a good beer that is solid and true to style.

Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a light golden orange amber. One finger fine white head with good retention and lacing. Looks good. Light aroma of pineapple and light caramel malt, not much hops present. Flavor is mild bready and light toasted malt, light citrus hops, low key, but well integrated. Mild citrus and hop aftertaste. The citrus has a mild astringent effect that slightly marrs the flavor. A bit of pleasant earthy spiciness developed in the finish as the beer warmed. Medium bodied. A mild English style ale that may well be true to style; unfortunately I've never had the chance to try a try early 20th century IPA, but this seems like it would be in character.

This is a faithful recreation of the original India pale ale that started it all. Not the hop bomb that has become the accepted version. A well balanced, strong drinkable ale. Alcohol is 6.5%.
Pours a nice pale copper with a decent head. I remember drinking
an original IPA as an 18 yo many years ago and thinking "what a bitter useless beer". Boy how times have changed!

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a caramel color with a 1 inch head. Smell is mild, some hops are present. Taste is bitter, some piney hops, a bit of malts, not a lot of flavor other than bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall I found this to be a mediocre beer.

Pours a clear pale copper color with a small off-white head that settles into a light ring.

The aroma has an apricot, light tropical fruit hop aroma that is associated with British ales. Some minerals detected. There is an overall toffee like sweetness.

The taste is of malty brown bread and scorched caramel. Slightly buttery. There is some mineral notes but not as apparent as the traditional burton on trent EPA/EIPA. The hops have an apricot flavor and are grassy and peppery.

The feel is moderate with fizzy carbonation. More sweet on the palate than bitter. Bit surprised that this is 6.5% ABV, can't tell.

Not my favorite style by a long shot but Southampton did a good job replicating an EPA/EIPA

A: The beer is crystal clear light amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high off white head that gradually died down, but never completely faded away and left a thin head covering the surface along with some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of minerals in the nose (similar to what you would expect from a glass of Perrier). Notes of caramel malts become evident as the beer warms up.
T: The taste has light flavors of minerals along with some hints of caramel malts (the latter becomes stronger as the beer warms up). It is accompanied by a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and slightly crisp and smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a bit of dryness in the finish.
O: This beer is easy to drink but seems like it could use a little more malts and a little less minerals.

First had: Philly Beer Scene Tasting panel with Matt Falco at Victory Brewing Company, Downingtown, PA

I was privileged enough to be on the tasting panel for PBS Magazine, along with Bill Covaleski of Victory and Greg Ramirez of Exton Beverage. This was one of 21 beers we sampled during the session.

Poured a clear copper color, with a small cap of white head. Aroma of bready malts, dull distant hops. Hmm...my fears of a malt-heavy IPA were confirmed on the taste. Toasty grains, nutshells, mild leafy and earthy hops. Fairly and smooth for the style, but not very flavorful or balanced. Solid overall but nothing tremendous. Aka, a British-style ale.

Poured into a Shiner Bock pint glass. No freshness date. I'm honored to be only the second person to review this.

A- Pours a light copper color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a light sheet of surface foam. Below-average lacing.

S- Nice hop nose with a good amount of malt sweetness to back it up. Somewhat citrusy and floral but stays on the earthy side just as well to maintain good balance.

T- The taste is more malt heavy, actually reminding me of something closer to a strong pale ale rather than an IPA. Slight metallic taste along with a lingering bitterness that's not all that pleasant. As the palate starts to even out the flavors, the drinkability goes up but the vibrancy remains neutral. Just not what one would expect from the delightful nose.

M- A bit dry and sharp. Medium carbonation and a body that leans more toward the full side of things.

O- Pretty good, but didn't meet my expectations which were quite high.
