A big thanks goes out to discord257 for sending this one my way in a very recent trade! Bottle #313 of 450. Served from bottle into a Boulevard Smokestack tulip. Poured a fluorescent yellow with a pure white one finger head that subsided to a minimal amount very slowly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, tart, subtle sour, and citrus rine. The flavor was of sweet malt, tart, sour, and citrus. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. There was a lot more of a citrus aspect going on in this one that I would have expected if I am honest. The appearance on this one was really nice as it seemed to glow while you were looking at it. I really hope to get the opportunity to try the original Berliner from Southampton in the future based on this one. A definite must try.

Thanks to CPAbeer for this one
30th Birthday Party
App- A orb looking color like the movie sphere. The inside is a mix of oranges and the outside is a lighter yellow. A few bubbles on this one without a cling level though.
Smell- Incorporates a lot of the usual Berliner notes I have smelled on others. A bit grassy and wheat with a certain dryness and a specific lactic/culture aroma. Some call it yogurt but I get more cream I guess.
Taste- This was an amazing flavor. So smooth and rich with wheat and I even got some fruit along the green/orange citrus variety. Can't pinpoint which ones in there. A bit sour/tart combo but works on this one. Just lovely.
Mouth- A bit of a thin/light body. Has a light-medium carbonation. Residual wheat and lactic flavors.
Drink- A very very good beer. Wish I had another bottle to enjoy. Thanks Chad!!

Another thank you to Jeff.
A: Pours a slightly cloudy lemon color with a billowing bright what head that quickly faded into a fuzzy film. Wispy lace.
S: Dry, tart, and citrusy. I get notes of straw and lager yeast. Very dry and bright smelling.
T: Straw, yeast and a ton of green apple and golden fruits. Fruit pits and tannins dry out the finish. Citrus rounds out the aftertaste and is tart and sharp.
M: Very frothy and bubbly carbonation. Mouth is very dry and fizzy. Clean and refreshing all around.
O: An extremely solid beer. Textbook Berliner Weiss. This would make a great base beer for a ton of sours. Thanks for sharing ipa247!

Thanks, David.
Appearance: Turbid straw yellow body capped by a billowing white head. Looks spot-on.
Smell: Grainy and lactic. Lemon, yogurt, tangy wheat. Not terribly different than their regular berliner, perhaps a bit more grainy.
Taste & mouthfeel: Opens with a nice citrusy twang backed by a foundation of bready, grainy wheat. Lemony and lactic, but not terribly acidic. Medium-light body with a high level of effervescence. Finish could use a bit more kick, but otherwise this is great stuff. Not sure that I like it more than their standard berliner, however.

Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow with a big white head leaving good retention and lacing.
Smells of grainy malt with an underlying funk and some lemon.
Similar flavors. Very grainy texture with bits of lemon. There also seems to be much less wheat presence and an almost brett like funk throughout.
Definitely not light as a normal berliner, but not unexpected due to the uber. Carbonation is too high and too prickly to let the subtle flavors come out.
Really kind of disappointed with this one. I usually love Berliners, but this one was too carbonated and lacked the nice subtle sour mash tartness I usually like in the style.

Thanks to Steve for this one. Bottle #61.
Pours very foamy into a hefeweizen glass; when it settles down, there's a dense, pale head on a slightly hazy yellow and bubbly beer. The smell is crisp minerals in faint vinegar, with some citric notes and a little graininess. The taste is a little sweet upfront, more like corn than sugar, with a mild sourness through the middle and a hint of bitterness at the end. It's quite fizzy, which offsets the full body quite well. An excellent beer, though not quite as tart as I'd hoped it would be.

Poured from bottle into oversized flute. Cloudy light straw color with an aggressive 2 fingers of white head. Nose is dry, funky, with a hint of banana and lemon peel. Tongue is quite similar; Lots of the lemon zest makes itself present upfront, then some of the banana esters come to play, then finally the pleasant tartness to finish. Mouthfeel is dry and pretty carbonated. Overall, very pleasant, refreshing brew. QUITE thankful to have tried it.

Thanks to Cavery for sharing this one at the post Bruery Reserve Society party bottle share!
2011 vintage. Bottle # 280/450.
Pours a clear yellow with a white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. No lacing on this one. Smell is of grain and some sour/tart fruity aromas. Taste is pretty much the same. This beer has a higher level of carbonation with a very crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer but the carbonation level is quite high.

From notes. Big ups to Matt (Starrdogg) for this bottle.
A - Cloudy whitish yellow, bottle had been open for half an hour before I poured it.
S - Sour notes with some wheat.
T - Nice sour, almost funky notes. Not nearly as much wheat as in other weiss biers.
M - Not nearly as light as most weissbiers, with it being "uber" and all.
O - A really, really well made American Berlinner. It stands up to a lot of the better German ones I have had. Thought, I much prefer lower alcohol Berlinners.

Bottle #444 share by Javier, thanks!
A: Slightly hazy dark yellow with an enormous pillowy white head. Much lacing.
S: Lemon, wheat, faint sulfur, and a prominent lactic presence. Lightly phenolic with some pepper.
T: Lightly tart up front with lots of wheat and a pervasive lactic sourness. Lemon blends with a light spiciness. Finishes dry and lightly tart.
M: Very high carbonation and light in body.
Overall: Highly drinkable and quite enjoyable. Recommended.

Bottle 115 of 450
The beer is a straw yellow hue, appearing cloudy and hazy. The head is white and measures approximately a quarter inch. The aroma offers wheat, bread, grape skins, and a light yeast character. I am really enjoying the flavor. Tartness / sourness is present but mild. Light bodied, refreshing, and incredibly easy to drink. Overall, I am very impressed. I definitely recommend trying this should you have the opportunity.

Thanks Craytonic for this gem, again a Southampton berleiner that needs to be mass produced so it can be available in many markets, a very enjoyable beer.
Beer is yellow and hazy with aggressive carbonation, a nice head with decent retention and some lacing, looks great.
Aroma is lactic and fruity, sweet and sour. Very nice.
Beer is thin in body a little watery and very effervescent on the palate. The finish is tart and creamy with this late fruitiness to it, a very nice little beer. I really enjoyed it.

Bomber from the 2012 release, poured into a medium-sized Duvel tulip. Big thanks to Dan's friend Mike for sharing this one.
A: Tons of floaties in a yellow-orange body under a fluffy, inch-thick white head. Mediocre retention, almost no lace. Kinda not good.
S: Sourness right off the bat, with grapefruit, chalkiness, and passionfruit. Unique and hugely enjoyable.
T: Lactic sourness, solid fruitiness, and some long, chalky minerality. The fruit notes include lemon, grapefruit, passionfruit, and apple. Very dry, clean finish. Great.
M: Hugely prickly, overcarbonated, thinned-out body. Not good.
O: What an interesting beer; it's ugly and has a terrible texture, but boy does it taste amazing. I'm really curious what more time in the bottle would do to it, although I'm in no way sure it would change for the better. This is a bizarre beer, and one I'm very glad I got to try.
Cheers!

Many thanks to SMason for sending this to me; shared at a tasting
Appearance: fizzy peach-yellow with very aggressive carbonation, thus good lacing and head
Smell: Very nice, lightly sour with wheat, citrus and honeysuckle. Taste: Quite enjoyable, honeysuckle, wheat, light sourness, golden fruits. Very refreshing, I could drink this one all day
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is just too aggressive, it detracts some from the beer. Very light body and quite dry.
Overall: Great beer, should be produced in quantity

Huge thanks to craytonic for bringing this bottle to last night's tasting. Served in a SAVOR wine glass.
Bottle 115 of 450.
Pours a slightly-hazy yellow color with a nice white head that has some super-fizzy foam, yet still has nice retention. A bit of a collar throughout. The nose carries faint acidity and really nice fruit character. There's a bit of peach plus some nice honeydew. A bit of wheat in there as well.
The flavor hits the same spots. There's light acidity and a dry wheat base, plus great notes of peach, apricot, and honeydew. A bit of miscellaneous melon and fruit salad in there. This is similar to the regular Southampton Berliner, yet not quite as pungent, which is a bit strange considering the name and general imperial nature of this one.
Light body with heavy carbonation and a crisp, dry finish with a moderate dose of acidity. This is one of the better berliners that I have come across, perhaps only surpassed by its younger sibling.

Huge thanks to Matt for this one.
Pours a hazy hay/yellow with a fluffy white head. Smell is slightly sour with some wheat. Flavor is fantastic, it really is a big version of a berliner, with some light tartness, wheat and excellence. Mouthfeel is the only real knock on this beer, it's a little too carbonated. Overall, this beer is awesome, and I'm quite glad I got a chance to try it.

Review #700. Bottle 27/450. Poured from a 22oz. foiled and capped bottle 22oz. bottle into an oversized Southampton snifter. Shared by schen9303. Time to try a slightly different reviewing style!
Color is clear goldenrod. Coarse white head with poor retention. Nice lace. Decent clarity for the style.
Nose is super clean. Yeasty. Lemon, yogurt, white grape, and lactose. Really aromatic and appetizing.
Lemon, white grape, yeasty. Mellow taste. Finish is yeasty with a filmy aftertaste. Really clean and delicious.
Light bodied with high carbonation. Goes down easy but aggressive. Really drinkable. Exactly what I want from the style.
Not close to what this one is on tap but its still one of the most solid berliner weisse beers I've ever had. A definite under-the-radar offering.

Pours a crystal clear straw color with some golden notes. Thin white head fades out almost completely, leaving little lacing or retention behind.
Tart and funky in the nose with touches of horse blanket and grass. Lemon zest and citrus peel invigorate the senses with some underlying sweetness.
Starts off with a touch of funkiness and some faint earthy tones. Nowhere near as tart as the nose might suggest, with hints of lemon and citrus peel and a hint of white grape. The fruit becomes slightly sweet towards the middle portion, where a straw and cracker-like backbone come through. Finishes a bit dry and tart on the tongue.
Lighter medium body, somewhat higher carbonation, bubbly and drinkable. Really refreshing and tasty – not really what I was expecting, but it was a welcome departure from what I typically get from this style.

Poured from the standard pressure cap 22oz. bottle into a Southampton snifter at low altitude. Had this on tap at the release and I'm really looking forward to trying this one again.
A: Pours a beautiful mostly opaque golden color like a bottle of fresh cider before shaking. Creamy two-finger stark white head recedes to a cap relatively quickly, but this is still a really beautiful-looking beer. Leaves some night spotty lacing on the glass throughout the session.
S: Apples, sour yeast notes, fresh olives and light wheat in the background. The smell is relatively strong and very enticing.
T: Complex sour yeast notes up front on par with some of the best Belgian lambics I've tried to date. After that, some sweet apple/pear notes and a slightly grassy wheat body followed by a very clean finish. I find it hard to stop drinking this after I've started.
M: Light-bodied and very nicely carbonated with a drying finish. Suits the flavors to a tee -- almost perfect.
D: This is a beer so good it's difficult to stop drinking after you've started, especially given its lightness. It's sour and cleansing in all the right ways. An absolute pleasure that I hope to have again next year.

A: Really beautiful appearance. Looks like hazy, light cider. But what really carries the appearance is the sight of those tiny carbonation bubbles near the bottom of the glass. Before a drop even hits your tongue, you know you are going to get a crisp, light, fresh-tasting beverage.
S: The smell of fresh, sour apples. Not overpowering by any means. In fact, it reminds me a lot of the apfelwein I drank in Frankfurt. The only downside is that the smell seemed to dissipate very quickly.
T: The taste is exactly what you'd imagine based on the appearance and smell alone. It's crisp, fresh, light, carbonated, and a hefty dose of sour apples (perhaps a tad too sour). It leaves a nice tingling sensation on your tongue.
M: Very, very smooth. The carbonation is the only reason that this beer doesn't go down like water (I really like the carbonation, because the prickly sensation pairs well with the crisp, sour taste of the beer).
I could actually drink this all day. There's so much going on between the sour apples, carbonation, and smoothness that I really do not think I could be bored by this drink.

This beer pours a nice straw color with a thin white head that recedes quickly. Th small is wonderfully lemony with hints of apple and grass. On tap at the publick house during their RIS release. Served in a short SH branded pils glass. The brew appears a hazed golden yellow color. A finger of creamy white head appears and fades fairly quick leaving a thin line of lace around the edge and small patchy lace patterns sticking to the glass. Very nice retention supported by constantly rising bubbles.
The first whiff of this brew brings up thoughts of lemony sweet tart candy. Some cheesy grain is evident along with mild funky notes. Trace elements of some fruited quality like pears and apples runs throughout. Earth and lactic quality like yogurt are felt towards the back and it increases in character as it gets warmer. The last thing noted about the aroma is a light hint of straw to grassy grain character.
The taste of this brew is lemony like sweet tarts. It carries with it different layers of lemon ranging from the candy-like type to coriander and zest. An inclusion of wheat grain provides a mild sweetness as well as a tangy wheat element that accents the lemony tartness of the brew. Some light fruit inclusion is noted through the middle tasting of pears and apples. A yogurt-like dryness concludes the brew with a lingering flavor of bubblegum.
This is a medium to light bodied brew with a modest level of carbonation. It is crisp and very tart that carries an ease of drinkability. This brew had some seriously big shoes to fill. Berliner Weisse is my favorite style of beer and their normal Berliner offering is my favorite beer to date. This uber take on the style was a homerun. It hints with imperial character straight across the board. It includes more of a wheat presence slightly more fruited quality and a bit more tangy tartness. Where the normal Berliner by Southampton is exceptionally clean and easy drinking with a depth of character. This one is very much imperialized in every aspect. I drank a lot of this at the release and wish I could drink it on a regular basis.

Going into the release I was a bit concerned that I'd be let down by this beer. The concept of an imperial berliner weisse is a bit paradoxical, but if you sit down and drink this with an open mind, I think it's quite a treat. No it's not Southampton's regular berliner, but it's quite nice.
A: Milky, straw-yellow body. Minimal white head. Forms a skim that remains throughout.
S: Lemonade, orange rind, wet hay, and a mild graininess.
T: Tart lemons, oranges, lactic sourness, grass, wheat and bread.
M: Light to medium bodied, gentle tartness throughout, appropriately carbonated, and refreshing.
O: A unique beer that for me, blends the incredibly easy drinking and light tartness of a wonderful berliner with the body and zip of something like Cantillon's Iris.

Pours a light golden straw in color w/ a skim coat white head that quickly dissipates, and leaves minimal lacing. Aromas of orange, lemon zest, breadiness, and a touch of wet sock/wet dog. The taste was big tart citrus up front(orange, lemon, pineapple, and tangerine), followed by wheat, and a finish of delicate herbal quality. Thin bodied and refreshing. Drinkability? Like Lionel said, "all night long!"
Overall, I drank the hell out of this brew on tap at the release, definately the highlight for me. I prefer bigger beers and this Berliner Weisse on steroids was right up my alley. All the bold flavors of the style w/ more kick.
