Bomber from the 2012 release, poured into a medium-sized Duvel tulip. Big thanks to Dan's friend Mike for sharing this one.

A: Tons of floaties in a yellow-orange body under a fluffy, inch-thick white head. Mediocre retention, almost no lace. Kinda not good.

S: Sourness right off the bat, with grapefruit, chalkiness, and passionfruit. Unique and hugely enjoyable.

T: Lactic sourness, solid fruitiness, and some long, chalky minerality. The fruit notes include lemon, grapefruit, passionfruit, and apple. Very dry, clean finish. Great.

M: Hugely prickly, overcarbonated, thinned-out body. Not good.

O: What an interesting beer; it's ugly and has a terrible texture, but boy does it taste amazing. I'm really curious what more time in the bottle would do to it, although I'm in no way sure it would change for the better. This is a bizarre beer, and one I'm very glad I got to try.

Cheers!

This is not a 2015 review but from notes found from a tasting when this beer was released. However, I was so impressed with this beer that I've had it a few times and can actually still taste it!

Reviewing the Southampton Uberliner from the Southampton Publick House out of Southampton, New York.

Score: 84

"2011" vintage bottle (from the January 2012 release). Bottle #158/450. Served in a snifter and enjoyed on 04/25/14. Review is from iPhone notes.

Appearance: Pours a clean golden honey color with a thin layer of white fuzzy head that almost totally settles. Poor lacing and retention. 3.5

Smell: Wheat grain, light honey, and wet mustiness. Very simplistic. 4/5

Taste: Wheat mixed with slightly musty/old white grape juice flavor. Light saltiness. 3.5/5

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, okay carb. Juicy mouthfeel. Light sourness, more saltiness. No "bite." 3.25/5

Overall: Was not a fan of this beer, though others at the tasting enjoyed it more than me. No one really loved this one, however. Definitely not a beer I would recommend chasing after.

Cost: $15 for a 22 oz (bomber) bottle.

Pours a slightly hazy bright golden yellow color wih dark banana/straw colored edges and a two finger, frothy white head that quickly settles into lasting ring. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind. A bit darker than expected but looks nice.

Funky, musty aroma with a nice barnyard character along with zesty citrus peel/lemon juice, sourdough bread and lactic funk. Smells very good with a nice amount of lactic, funky cheesiness bouncing off of the citrus/lemon and sourdough bread notes. There's some light fruit in there as well along with a subtle mineral presence. This beer smells exactly like what I want from the style. Incredibly inviting nose.

On the fuller end of medium body with a really nice balance of lactic funk, sour citric acidity, sourdough bread and light fruit. A lot of American interpretations aren't on point but this is really true to style. Citric lemon juice acidity with wheat/sourdough bread flavor followed by a dry, mineral-like quality and light apple and pear sweetness in the finish. A little thicker than I prefer but this beer is true to style and very easy to drink. Highly recommended!

This practically exploded with foam as it poured a huge head of bright white foam reminiscent of a merangue. The color was a bright yellow like the flesh of a pineapple.

The nose is simple, sour and cidery with some nice apple notes.

The flavor is sweet, tart and dry with a strong balance of Apple and wheat.

This is very dry in feel but super crisp and near absent carbonated bite.

For a retired beer brewed in 2011, this stood up quite well and was very tasty.
