Review from notes 2/6/11. Thanks to Cuzco for this bottle!
A: Pours black with a small head that dissipates quickly to splotches of foam on top. Decent lacing.
S: Light toasted malts, a little bit of chocolate, and a hint of hops.
T: Not very strong, roasted malts, hints of coffee, chocolate and molasses.
M/D: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Easy drinking, but not a lot going on. Alcohol is hidden well.

Bottle, labelled "Imperial Porter". RBESG 2005, Grand Tasting. Pleasant sweet malty and roasty aroma with notes of chocolate and molasses. Flavour is malty sweet with chocolatey and oaky notes. Aftertaste is malty sweet and fairly unremarkable. Strangely sweet for a porter, but no doubt a craft beer.

Had this from a bottle.
A: pours a dark body with some brown notes with a tan head with nice retention and lacing
S: sweet, roasted notes with some sweet alcohol notes and subtle roasted meat notes
T: pretty winey tasting; some malt notes, but alcohol is mostly present; subtle roast notes
M: medium bodied but on the thinner side of what I was expecting; decent
D: ok mouthfeel and taste combo; ok overall, but nothing to really write home about; alcohol and malts did not seem too balanced

Served at Crooked Ladder Brewery, recently acquired by Southampton Brewery, into a conical pint glass.
A: Pours dark brown with a thin light tan head which dissipates very rapidly. Little lacing.
S: Aromas of burnt black coffee and unsweetened cocoa.
T: Somewhat sugary, but overwhelmed by charred flavor. Overly bitter without solid offsetting sweetness.
M: Surprisingly light bodied, making it come across as a bit thin. Little effervescence.
O: Not a strong representative of the category. Burnt flavor is off putting, but, even without this, really just misses the mark.

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a dark brown color with a foamy eggshell white colored head. Nice speckled lace. The aroma had some caramel and roasted malts, touch of sugar. The flavor was basically the same with some burnt toast to it. Sweet malty to almost sugary aftertaste. Quick sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Low carbonation. Pretty smooth along my tongue. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, I can see it as suggested by the brewer, but did it really come together as expected? In my opinion, not as much. It wasn’t bad, it just seemed to lean sweeter than I had hoped for.

This dark-brown, translucent, effervescent porter sports orange highlights and a thin, brief-lived, slightly pebbly light-brown head that leaves thick bands and cavelets of lacing. The aroma is medium-big, leading with milk chocolate and raisin notes, backed by a blend of light-charactered caramel and cola with hints of butterscotch and dark fruit; slight alcohol overtones ride atop it all. The palate is a slightly bitter indeterminate dark malt flavor that touches on dark, bitter chocolate, dark toffee and dark fruit, all over a modest undercurrent of alcohol. The finish is a modest hit of toffee and booze, followed by a mild bitter chocolate flavor that lingers for a few minutes. Mouthfeel is on point for the medium-full body, and the texture is medium-creamy, slightly sticky and medium-peppery from the well-expressed carbonation. Quite crisp and drinkable for how robust the flavor is, and the alcohol is pretty well hidden. (12 oz bottle, no date)

Looks decent enough, thin lacing around the rim. Not much on the nose, faint malt, not much else. Taste is very good though, everything you want from a porter, dark chocolate, light coffee with some dark fruits mixed in.feel is a bit thin but aside from that it's still a good porter.

I thought the Southampton Imperial Porter was very good. It poured an opaque black with no head and no lace. The scent had nice roast. The taste was coffee and hints of chocolate. The mouthfeel was medium in body with subtle carbonation. Overall this is a good porter and worth a try.
