750ml bottle
A- Corked and caged 750ml bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a slightly hazed orangish amber color with an off-white head that possesses great lacing and retention.
S- The aroma is absolutely fantastic! The nose is very floral with a hint of mint and spices. Very complex.
T- The taste like the aroma is floral with some spices and the alcohol really doesn't stand out very much at all in this one. Like with the aroma, I love the complexity of the taste. Every sip is an adventure.
M- This beer is very highly carbonated creating a prickly mouthfeel.
D- Overall, I really enjoyed this brew. It is something different which is nice and I really enjoy the mix of flavors. Definitely worth a try. Highly Recommended.

Decanted from 16.94 oz (750 ml) bottle into a Kane snifter glass; bottled on 4/25/2018.
A: Pours an opaque amber-light brown color (basically the color of Werther Caramel candies) with solid effervescence leaving only a less than one finger, eggshell white head, brief rim retention, no lacing, but perhaps a touch of legs.
S: Floral and earthy. Aromas of caramel, honeysuckle, rose, loamy earth, and a little tobacco.
T: Sweet to semisweet. Strong caramel, light cane sugar, tobacco, and loamy earth. Little evidence of bitterness.
M: Medium bodied and moderate effervescence.
O: Called a Belgian Saison above, but really has the taste characteristics of an Old Ale. Regardless of what it is called, quite delicious.

I am speechless.
(Sorry, but not for long.)
Only my second from Southhampton and, again, experience the joy of an unexpected find. Brewed, presumably by contract, in Pottstown. Bottled one year ago. This is a specimen saison, my favorite style.
Spectacular Looks, a hazy orange with a pretty head that sticks around. Smells grab me less, I get the flowers and the yeast making fruit... but nothing I can't stop myself from drinking all at once. But Tastes, that is a different story: I could not stop myself and I wanted to because I wanted to save some for lunch tomorrow... but didn't. Totally integrated Tastes, so balanced for a malt-head like me who appreciates subtle spicing and effective yeast. In terms of sitting in my mouth, I wish I could Feel like this all night... but I kept swallowing.
In reading through Southhampton's awards cited on their website and had to stop myself from drooling over their menu. I suppose I should put them on my Bucket List. But, I've never been east of Hofstra... and then, Southampton's menu has all those NYC prices. But then again, Publick House is the high art for malt-heads who like to eat. Pay the price for who you are.

L: Light golden color with very nice head retention.
S: Flowers are prominent in this beer’s smell and intermingle with strong saison-like spiciness and barnyard funk. A little more malt than most saisons.
T: Certainly more malty than other saisons I’ve had. Really not loving the taste. It’s somewhat boozy and rather sweet for the style, with not much spiciness shining through. It really seems closer to a BSPA than a saison. Finishes fairly sweet; really too syrupy. Orange-like flavors and substantial lingering bitterness.
F: Medium-full body with medium carbonation. The heaviness of the mouthfeel doesn’t seem appropriate for a saison.
O: Had way too high a finished gravity to be a saison in my opinion. Too sweet, too boozy, too heavy. Disappointing; I was expecting more from this beer.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 4/25/2018. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep golden color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, rose water, lavender, mint, flowers, herbal, grass, pepper, clove, honey, biscuit, and floral/yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, flowers, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, apple, rose water, lavender, mint, flowers, herbal, grass, pepper, clove, honey, biscuit, and floral/yeast earthiness. Good amount of peppery yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, rose water, lavender, mint, flowers, herbal, grass, pepper, clove, honey, biscuit, and floral/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, flowers, and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/yeast/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible flower spiced saison style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, flowers, and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. The flower spice flavors were incredibly well balanced and complimenting to the saison style character. Really impressed me. A highly enjoyable offering.

Lots of floral aromatics. Main complaint is that it was nearly totally flat, which took away from what this could be. Super unique experience. Definitely worth trying if given the chance.

750 mL corked bottle poured into a Duvel tulip glass
2010 Batch
This completes a little experiment I've conducted over the last 4 years. I acquired this brew late in 2010 in a trade from Manoftyr (haven't heard from you in awhile, still around?). I didn't cellar it, I've actually kept it cold in my fridge this whole time. We'll see how this goes.
A: Straw-yellow with an orange hue, the foamy head quickly dissipates, but a thin layer of head never fully recedes.
S: Nice citrusy bouquet. Notes of grassy funk and honey bounce off an oaky backdrop. Booze is well masked.
T: Lemongrass and funk at the front of the palate. Notes of of buttery oak carry through mid-sip, with hints of honeyed biscuits. Aging has rounded the flavor profile, it's completely singular on the palate. The floral tones from the rose water and flowers have a light but distinct layer on the palate, complimenting the funky notes. Finishes long and sweet and kind of caramelly.
M: Rich and oily slick on the palate.
I'm almost shocked at how well this has held up. The flavors have sweetened and condensed, but distinct notes can be parsed. A really tasty saison.
