Great small town on the north shore of the St Lawrence. Went looking for the brewery with no idea they had their own restaurant. The owner of our inn pointed us in the right direction. Had both lunch and dinner here, and was impressed equally by the food & service as I was with the beer. Menu does a great job of focusing on the area producers (think the Route du Fleuve) and did not disappoint. Their smoked chicken and lamb shank was outstanding. Even if you're in Quebec City, make the day trip out here just for the restaurant. Bottle selection, but only drank from the draft lines.

We made the pilgrimage to one of the best brewers of Belgian-style beers in North America. What we found on the 90 minute drive north of Quebec City was a restaurant and brew pub in the center of an extremely charming town filled with art galleries.
Being June, the covered outdoor courtyard (with plastic tent-like walls and space heaters, since even in the summer it can be cool at night) was where all the table service was happening...the bar and indoor tables were empty. The Quebecois make the most of their short summer--after 8 months indoors they dont want to sit inside at all. The decor is casual and relaxed, service was fine but nothing special (very little English spoken--if I could speak French I could judge better).
The choice of beers is fairly small, a seasonal selection of Microbrasserie Charlevoix's outstanding offerings, a treat to have them on tap. The Triple is complex and wonderful. The focus was really on the food here, and the menu recommends beers that will best complement each dish.
The food was a treat, casual pub fare but done extremely well with French Canadian accents. Little symbols next to each dish indicate when indigenous, seasonal Quebec products are being used, and when one of the beers is in the dish. French onion soup made with ale was rich and satisfying. Burgers and sausages were delicious.
With the weak US dollar no place in Canada is the bargain it once was, and this is a mid-priced restaurant so you will spend some cash. Definitely a worthy destination when in Quebec.
