The American poet, Walt Whitman, once portrayed a sunset over Philadelphia as “…a broad tumble of clouds, with much golden haze and profusion of beaming shaft and dazzle”. Pour yourself a bottle of Walt Wit Belgian-Style White Ale and see what he was talking about. A pinch of spice and a whisper of citrus lend complexity to this fragrant and satisfying ale.

On the darker end of straw in color and almost see through with a quickly dissipating white head. Certainly unfiltered with lots of sediment seen. Yeasty with slight spice on the nose, there is also a sweet banana element in there. A bit light on flavor with a lingering wheat/Belgian quality to the finish. Something fruity and sweet in there too. Light carbonation for the style with a medium thickness. Easy to drink I’d say.

Gold ale with the character of an unfiltered Belgian style apparent. With ingredients sediment still floating around. Old -brew style. There is some citrus in this Ale but gladly not overbearing. I had it after long bike ride on a warm September night with a burger. It complimented the meal perfectly. A good beer for sure.

Philadelphia Brewing Co. "Walt Wit"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "BOTTLED ON06/30/17" and sampled on 08/11/17
$2 @ Weis Market, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: I've always loved the name of this beer, and the label is pretty good too. It pours a kind of brass-accented straw gold beneath a short head of bright white. It's surprisingly cloudy as opposed to the normal haziness of a witbier, but OK. The head has already dropped, and left no initial lacing behind it. Perhaps with subsequent sips something will show. The aroma is wheaty and spicy with coriander. Ahh, there's some orange there as well, and some yeasty phenols. It smells pretty good, and it's unique, it's not just a copy of Hoegaarden. The flavor adds in more fruit, perhaps some apple and white grape, and more clove-like phenols. The bitterness is limited but it finishes with a soft spiciness and a light touch of lingering bitterness. And there's some residual sweetish wheat malt as well. It's nicely balanced overall. Medium-bodied with a gently crisp carbonation that gently caresses the tongue and then softens to become smoother.

Pack brought back from Philadelphia as a gift. No freshness date found. Poured from bottle into a pilsner glass.

Pours a cloudy straw color with a decent foamy head. There is some sediment that can be seen.

There is not much of an aroma from this beer. What I can get is a bit of yeast, a bit of fruit notes but I can't distinguish which. I wish there was more but not getting it.

Tastes of slight yeast, some notes of wheat grain, citrus zest come through. The flavors are all subtle but they are balanced.

There is a little bit of carbonation to this beer. Good balanced body. Nothing special.

I feel like this beer is lacking slightly in aromas and taste. Not the best witbier I've had but not the worst. I don't see myself going after this beer specifically but I will take it when offered.

Pours a cloudy golden straw with plenty of floaties. The nose is a pleasing combo of lemon and funk. The flavor follows the nose with a faint residual sweetness.
