Pale yellow in color with perfect clarity. Poured with a short white foam that quickly reduced to a soapy cap. Bready, biscuity aromas with light floral hop and earthy, grassy notes at the end. On the lighter side of medium bodied with crisp carbination. Flavor is similar with bready, biscuity malt up front with floral hop flavor through the middle to the end. Finishes clean and crisp with a tangy floral hop bite followed by a bready, maltiness.

I live in Philly and so, this is one of the local beers I have at home once in a while.
When I first tasted it, I was sure it's a pretty decent Pilsner, but if it warms up a little bit, one smells and tastes a wheatish touch. According to Phila Brewing Company's homepage, it does, indeed, contain a small amount of wheat. That said (and if their information is correct), it's clear that it's neither a Pilsner, nor a Dortmund style lager. And it's definitely not a Koelsch (which is an ale - this is a lager), which I read in some reviews.

Alas, it's a peculiar beer, but with many of the good characteristics of a rather hoppy European Pilsner (or a lightly hopped American one). I like that the hops is very aromatic but not so bitter that it dominates all other tastes; you can still enjoy the (pretty) light maltiness, the distinct minerality (which some could regard as a negative feature), and the additional body that comes from wheat and not completely filtered yeast.

An easy but not too ordinary drink. One can easily enjoy more than one of those on a warm summer evening.

Had on tap at L'Etage in Philly.

I've also had the Phila Brew Newbold IPA which is pretty good.

This seems almost more of a pilsner than a kolsch to some degree.

Yellowish hazy appearance with a sweetish caramel malt smell.

That caramel flavor goes right into the taste. It's a smooth beer with a nice mouthfeel and balance of minimal hops and enjoyable subtle sweetness.

Good job by Phila. Brewing co. but maybe some fine tuning in what it's being marketed as.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint. This is PBC's current flagship beer and a decent craft beer you can find cheap at most decent bars in Philadelphia. I've had this many times on draft, only a few times in a bottle.

A side note: A lot of people here really want to focus on style on this one it seems. I wouldn't do that. PBC doesn't really market it as a Kolsch. Their website emphasizes pilsner malts, but I wouldn't call it a pilsner so much as PBC's attempt at a crossover hit. This is a beer made for people who don't usually drink craft beer, and it is probably one of the best beers you can give someone to help them cross over into better territory. From their website: "This crisp, light-bodied, golden beer is the very definition of refreshment." Anyway...

Appearance: Nice gold color with a decent white head that doesn't stick around too long. Looks sort of like a "super" adjunct.

Smell: Lightly sweet, some citrus notes and a lot of bready wheat.

Taste: Citrus and hops first, gives way to a deliciously bready beer.

Mouthfeel: Light body, but if you're comparing it to adjuncts, a little heavier. Ample carbonation, effortlessly drinkable/sessionable and pretty refreshing and crisp.

Like I said, this is what I give to people looking to try something new with only experience in Miller/Coors/Bud/Keystone/whatever or Yuengling lager. It does its job, plus it keeps me satisfied on the cheap in quite a few bars.

A: Pale sunshine yellow, a little cloudy.

S: Sharp, pungent with an immediate citrus presence, slightly musky.

T: Quite bitter, citrus and wheat, think aftertaste

M: Smooth, perfect level of carbonation. Nice tingle sensation aftertaste

O: Good bitter beer. Also, decently affordable. Before this I wasn't familiar with the boys at the Philadelphia Brewing Company. After this I think I'll get friendly with some of their other brews. It's a nice balance of bitter and savory, enough to interest a seasoned beer drinker, drinkable enough not to drive away an amateur.
