First had: on tap at the Dunedin brewpub

Light-engulfing, pitch black color, like spent engine oil, no real head, other than a retaining beige ringlet that left pretty much no lacing. Aroma was a bit muted. Sweet malts in the nose, hints of dried fruit. Taste was fairly sweet, dark malts balanced between sweet and roasty, notes of figs and red wine, slightly boozy, but not nearly as hot as I'd expect from a 9.7%ABV beer. I noticed they had this beer for sale in bottles, and I'd guess that they'd do good with some age on them. Mouthfeel was fairly smooth, but I though the body was a bit thinned out, coming in at about medium, maybe edging towards the heavier side, but lacking the full creamy goodness that makes an imperial stout a GREAT imperial stout. A good beer overall.

Serving type: on-tap
