This 'porter' looks and tastes lighter than typical for style. The appearance is actually more like a brown ale, albeit with a slight reddish tint. We're talking clear liquid I could see right through.
Somewhat low carbonation; medium body. Limited aftertaste.
Earthy and roasted malt dominate.
Rather simple and disappointing.

A: half finger tan head on a clear deep mahagony brown body.
S: nice aroma with chocolate, smokey, roasted malts and a subtle vanilla note.
T: degree of smokiness borders on mesquite. The rest of the notes are understated and include burnt toast, coffee and chocolate.
M: lighter side of medium body and lighter side of moderate carbonation.
Overall: I like the more smokey porters and this one fits that criteria.

In JAX to attend the Jags game against SD and tried the RCB Co. The Riptide Porter poured a dark brown with a tan head. The scent carried lots of roasted malts and coffee aroma. The taste was much of the same as the smell but also included some sweetness. The mouthfeel was light for a porter with mid carbonation. Overall this was just an ok porter.

A - Dark brown color but very clear. Silky tan-colored foam persists in a thin layer across the beer.
S - Aroma of roasted, slightly smoky malt. Maybe some flowery hops in the background.
T - The roasted grains dominate with coffee and chocolate flavors yet this fades in time to give it a slightly sweet finish.
M - Medium to heavy body that fits the taste. Creamy carbonation. Hops bitterness does not break out from under the malt.
D - Great beer. Very smooth and easy drinking. Amazing amount of roasted character without harsh burnt notes.

Poured on-tap at River City Brewing Company, the beer was served in a pint glass. The brew appeared a light amber0brown color with no significant head. The nose was full and robust with chocolate and coffee characteristics. The beer's flavor is sweet chocolate initially, balanced with bitter coffee. The beer carries this balanced flavor on a light, smooth body. The finish is quick, and consists of roasted coffee, with a slight bitter aftertaste.

The Riptide Porter was served in a standard pint. It was dark brown with a tan head. Not a ton of lacing which seems common with RCBC beers.
There is lots of roasted malts and coffee aroma.
The taste is of dark fruits, bakers chocolate, almost burnt or smoky malts and molasses. The beer is slightly sweet with a nice finish.
The mouth has just enough heft. This was the best beer I had here.
