I had the chance to meet some friends at the First Capital Dispensing company. The first time I went there I had just started homebrewing and inevitably I was conversing about 2 batches I recently brewed while we relaxed and had some ales.
The Atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming. A bistro atmosphere, this corner bar has lots of character. The sense of a place that cares about beer is apparent w/ beer signs and chalkboard signs pointing out best selling ales. There is a certainly a York county touch to this corner bar with plenty of history. Rock is a focus and Live local bands play blues and groove music. The atmosphere is generally pub-like, casual and friend oriented.
Good microbrew and Import selection is a feature many enjoy at 1st Cap. Avery, DFH, Left Hand, Lagunitas, Maredsous, Unibroue are just a few of the bottles available. They don't skip the seasonals, either. You can find Anderson Valley, Blue Point, Troegs, and DFH in rotation. There is a limited number of taps -(8) with about 1/3 of the selections devoted to east coast micros.
Quality is top notch with food specials and freshly prepared items such as crab cakes. The local flavor is observed w/ hog maw mondays for a PA dutch taste. The quality of music, food and ale is always very good at 1st Cap.
A variety of menu items that are both fresh and imaginative can be had at the Cap. You can choose from pub fare or check out the Dinner menu and maybe pick from the vegetarian choices. The crab cake is a very good choice. They even have ten different sandwich styles to pick from: French, Greek, Danish, Italian, Cajun, Santa Fe, Thai, Bombay to name a few. The portions and prices are reasonable and you won't be dissapointed if you choose to have dinner and pair a few beers.
This place is a York County fixture w/ great food, beer selection and character. Not to be missed for the beer focused.

If you're from York you've probably been to First Cap. If you're on your way through York and can only stop at one place downtown for a meal, stop here. If you like good beer, good people, good food and good local live music this is the place in York. No other bar in York comes close to matching First Cap on these qualities.
Food is excellent, try their blue cheese burger.
Beer selection is good, though if you're looking for something special it will be out of their bottle cooler. Two tall units, each about half full of bottle selections.
FYI - Don't park in the lot right across Pershing street, I know it looks perfect and probably vacant, but if the parking police catch you there without a permit they'll ticket you. Park in the street or on the garage on Philadelphia St just a couple blocks from the bar.
