The beer pours a proper black with a slight red tinge and a nice light tan head on top. The beer’s body is too dark to properly judge, but seems clean. The beer leaves a lacing that is light and slippery, leaving very little to look at on the glass. On the nose, the beer smells wonderfully rich with coffee and oatmeal tones. Roasted barley malts also come through on the nose slightly. On the tongue, the beer tastes sweet and drying with a nice roasted bitter flavoring. The beer begins with a little watery roasted malt before opening into big roasted oat flavors with touches of coffee, toffee, and char. The finish brings to mind sweet oatmeal bread, and is very appealing. The aftertaste is tingly with roasted oatmeal and slight coffee. On the mouth, the beer feels medium bodied, with a medium carbonation that lightly prickles the tongue. The mouth is left dry with a light wet sheen of saliva on the sides of the mouth. Overall, this beer is delicious and sessionable. There is a lovely roasted oat flavor that reminds me of winter and a warm stove for some reason. This stout will not blow you away with flavor, but it is solid and tasty and fully deserving of your taste buds.

12 oz bottle poured into my Mayflower "pint" glass (its not really a full pint! Argh!) .

A - Brown thin head sits on a dark body. Slight highlights that are also a nice brown, not the ruby you see in many stouts.

N - Dark roasted malts all the way. Like a hearty piece of fresh bread. Very little hops. No spice no fruit.

T - Again, dark malts and roast. Chocolate and coffee but only just so. Not overpowering the malts. The oatmeal smooths it very nicely and adds some oaty sweetness.

M - Again, very smooth. Very fine carbonation. Delightful bitter after taste.

O - very good. Nice on a cold evening by the fireplace.

Drove down to Mass to visit relatives:

At CBS Scene (Patriot Place):

In a pint glass:

A: dark black body with a half finger white head that concaved in the middle to leave clingy lacing along the pint glass.

S: roasty with some light coffee up front, but as it warmed the oatmeal came out.

T: same as the previously mentioned flavors in the smell, however the oatmeal is more forward than the smell as it didn't need to warm up as much to get that taste.

M: medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. A good dry bitter aftertaste and finish accompanied the mouthfeel.

O: this is a good oatmeal stout that I would come back to.

12oz bottle bought at Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA as part of a 6-pack.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a skim of a dark brown head over the opaque dark brown/black brew. Skim is gone in a moment, with leggy small-bubbled lace. Aroma is dark malts and anise.

Taste begins dark and sweet, chewy oat in the middle, smooths into an almost lactic close. Mouthfeel is whoa smooth, and drinkability is excellent. Can't judge this book by it's cover, flavor was where it's at.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Purchased in Wakefield RI.

A- pours an opaque black body with a medium 1" mocha head that reduces pretty quickly to a ring and leaves very little lacing.

S- cocoa, milk chocolate, light coffee, pretty heavily roasted malt.

T- has a pretty smokey character with the typical stout characteristics sitting in the background, coffee and roasted malt being the predominate notes. The flavor isn't 100% there though, could be richer for an oatmeal stout. Virtually no toasty aftertaste which would have been nice for this style.

M- low carbonation, slightly watery.

What I'm getting is a average to slightly below average stout, I would have preferred more body and flavor. I don't regret purchasing it but wouldn't buy again.

Poured from bottle into tulip. Pours a thick oily black with no head or carbonation. Smell is really nice chocolate roasted malts with a bit of vanilla. Taste is a bit lacking compared to the aroma. Its bitter roasted oaty malts and somewhat small...not much going on here.Its smooth and pleasant but other better ooatmeal stouts exists. Worth a try.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Drunk at about 45 degrees.

A - Pretty standard. Ink black and hardly any head.

S - A little malt, some cocoa, and a cardboardish smell.

T - Slightly better than average. Some nice coffee notes and just a hint of cocoa. Nicely sweet.

M - Nothing special here. I was actually hoping for something more syrupy which is typical of the style.

O - An average oatmeal stout. I would drink this again but honestly wouldn't buy it, in favor of other oatmeal stouts or Mayflower's IPA, which is very good.

A: Ink black, thin dark cardboard head,

S: Pretty pungent off the bat, dark roasted espresso and dark coco. Some roasted and smoked malts also.

T: Coffee, more of a sweeter malt base. Molasses, raisins, chocolate covered cherries, and bread crust. A bit of herbal hops come through too. Has a certain salty/savoriness too. Maybe some lactose too.

M: Not quite as rich as other oatmeal stouts. More syrupy than creamy, oily. Low/medium carbonation. Still pretty full bodied. Somewhat session-able for the style.

O: A real tasty brew, perfect for a snowy post dinner sipper. Not overly rich. Not the best oatmeal stout I've had but a real solid brew. Matches the quality I expect from Mayflower. I recommend.

The beer poured a beautiful deep dark chocolate with a two finger head into a pint glass.

The aroma was quite good- vanilla-milk chocolate and lemon.

The mouth feel was a bit tart and carbonated.

I was expecting continuity to match the aroma and color- however the taste was too lemony.
Some sweetness- but not strong. I was disappointed- I was expecting a smooth, sweeter, perhaps a more chocolate accented stout, but the tartness and lemon dominated the flavor. Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout is one of my favorites, and this stout didn't compare in smoothness and taste.

Overall- a good oatmeal stout- but for the first tasting, the beer lacked smoothness and balance.
Will try again for another tasting.

A: dark brown head that dissipates quickly leaving no lacing.

S: Roasty and husky. A bit understated.

T: Heavy on the roasted barley, a touch of smoke or char, some creamy vanilla and toffee or caramel provide some sweetness. Herbal hops come through with surprising clarity.

M: smooth but a bit prickly.

O: A very good, sweet oatmeal stout. Mayflower does dark beers very well.

Pours a dark black color with a small white head.

Aromas are nutty, with notes of cocoa, and cream.

Taste is also nutty, with creamy sweetness, light cocoa, and coffee. Finish is smooth, with light mineral hoppiness, and a note of molasses sweetness.

Mouthfeel is smooth, with nice body, and soft carbonation.

Overall, this is a nice easy drinking stout. Good beer that is well worth trying,

Pours a solid dark brown color with a faint garnet highlight when held to light. Decent sized tan head quickly dissipates to a cap. Smells of roasted and cereal grains, milk chocolate, caramel, a hint of earthy hops. The flavor is rich and dark chocolate up front with a hint of vanilla and caramel. Light earthy hop flavor with little to no hop bitterness. Medium body with a light level of carbonation and a creamy, silky smooth mouthfeel. This is a nice sweet stout, I enjoyed it.

Pitch black with little head. It doesnt look as creamy and frothy as i like an oatmeal stout to be. Aroma provides a little smoke, powdery oats, peat moss, and a touch of chocolate. The taste is nice - chocolate and oatmeal are definitely there. Charcoal and Peat moss is brought to mind again on the flavor profile but chocolate milk is what lingers on the finish. Mouthfeel is unfortunately a little flat with lower carbonation...slight oily slickness to it. Again, I wish this felt creamier. But overall it's a tasty oatmeal stout that excels in flavor...if it didn't just lack on the looks and mouthfeel department it would be perfect.

Pint-glassed.

A: Tar black with a 1f chocolatey brown head that quickly dissipates. If you hold it up to a bright light you might catch just a sliver of a deep burgundy highlight.

S: Roasty dark mocha and caramel. Burnt brown sugar.

T: Sweet and very malty, the mocha characteristics hit the tongue first, then dance between roast and coffee notes. A little espresso-ish.

M: Smooth and creamy. Either on the heavy side of medium or the lower end of full-bodied.

O:This is the stout that took me by a mittened hand and walked with me over the docks and told me that it was alright to love stouts. I've since moved on to others, but I always come back when winter falls. A sweet, lovable dessert-like beer with a heart of gold.

poured in stella chalice

App: dark black (as opposed to a more brownish black), one finger foam head, leaves no lacing

Smell: milky, vanilla, sweet, toffee, cocoa

Taste: pleasant, chocolate infused front end taste, retains a malty sweetness in spite of dark roasting

Mouthfeel: smooth but not watery, nice carbonation, malty viscosity

Overall: well...not quite as good as Ipswich's variety but close. very smooth, drinkable, it's modest abv makes it a perfect session stout. Once again, Mayflower's brewmaster succeeds. A triple, but not a home run...just being honest

A - Pours black with some brown edging. Solid dark tan head gives way to little lacing.

S - Malts; coffee, chocolate, roasted, black patent.

T - Creamy oatmeal smoothness works to brings all the flavors to you. The chocolate is bitter like baking chocolate, no dusty cocoa here. Not much sweetness in the malts. I didn't get any toffee at all. The roasted malts are almost burnt and give off a strong component to the coffee flavor. A slight hops touch in the finish seals this up.

M - Medium.

O - Great oatmeal stout. Right up there with Ipswich, which is my measuring stick. I can't wait to try one of the other two versions that included a specific hops variety.

Pours black with a one-finger mocha colored head. Not much in the lacing department. Aroma of roasted malts, along with a hint of sweet chocolate syrup. Same great roasted notes in the flavor. Roasted coffee and a hint of pine hops before the sweeter side of the beer takes over. Smooth milk chocolate notes as well as a bit of a vanilla give it a silky feel. Not the smoothest oatmeal stout, but still a nice mouthfeel to go along with the great flavor. Sessionable for any beer, nevermind a stout.

Poured out of a 12oz bottle into a tasting pint. Completely dark blackish brown body with a reddish brown head. Chocolate and roasted grain smell. Some freshly turned earth. Tastes of chocolate milk, light coffee, cupcakes. Full and slick mouthfeel.

I really like this beer. Nice and smooth texture. Layered flavors. Little boozy at the end. But a great brew nonetheless.

Sampled at the Mayflower Brewery...

A: Dark black color, light brown/tan head, pretty good amount of lacing.

S: Sweet roasty malts, coffee and light chocolate notes, a bit of smoke.

T: Follows the nose, roasted malts, chocolate and coffee, touch of vanilla.

M: Smooth and creamy, minimal carbonation, light-medium bodied.

O: Had this fresh off the tap in thier tasting room and enjoyed it very much. Suprisingly good drinkability, a very good oatmeal stout. Will pick up a sixer soon.

A: Pours out a viscous tar black body – seriously, if molasses was more molten, it would look like this. Half finger head that looks like hot chocolate textured by a frothing wand rises quickly then fades.

S: Old strong coffee, lactose powder, caramel, toffee, butterscotch, campfire that’s been doused by water.

T: Molasses cookies, s’mores, breve coffee, malted milk.

M: Medium moving to light bodied, seems like it will be silky and then moves to finishing dry.

O: Normally anything with hops catches my attention, but something about an Oatmeal Winter Stout just sounded so cozy that I had to buy it. A nice almost desert-like stout that can border on too sweet, but manages to pull it off.

A- a very dark brown almost black with a dark brown head and some lace.

S- some rich chocolate malt brings a coffee and semisweet chocolate aroma, malt, and a little bit of carmel sweetness.

t- a very classic tasting oatmeal stout with a nice creamy feel that is just a bit too thin. Some vanilla and a good amount of dark chocolate are here as well.

O- a good oatmeal stout, good winter seasonal.

12 oz. brown bottle.
Served in a wide-mouth Ittala 50cl mug.
Strong black coffee colored with a frothy mocha head with a fair smattering of lacing.
Smells of cocoa, coffee, licorice and burnt malt blast out of the gate. A smell of mashed figs is followed by a mild citrusy nose, followed by a light whiff of hay.
Flavors of strong, dark roasted coffee, chocolate, cream and molasses are fairly potent. Citrus and resinous hops inch through. A taste of oats is noticeable, though less than expected.
There's a distant taste of dark rum throughout.
The body is full and rich, but short of cloying. Slides right down...
An Imperial version of this dark brew would be very very interesting. Hint hint...

A: Pitch black with a medium brown head that froths up quickly and fades just a quick. No lacing or head retention.

S: Roasted malt is heavy but there's some molasses and earthy, smoky notes.

T: Nicely smoked and roasted malt with a creamy body and a soft, oat-tasting finish.

M: Lightly carbonated with smooth and easy drinkability. Great feel for the style.

O: Nice, traditional oatmeal stout and I look forward to more from Mayflower.

brown head, completely opaque black beer. tiny bubbles, but weak retention. mostly chocolate aroma, with a English or Irish ale yeast mixed in. smells good. pretty intense for a oatmeal stout. great roasted barley and chocolate malt flavors. bitterness is solid. mouthfeel is really effected by the dark acidic grains. I do really like the beer, but the oatmeal is a bit lost in the other malts. 6% ABV is apparent. Much, Much better served warmer. good sixer for the winter.

Enjoyed at a monday night tasting at Julios.

A - Pours a deep, rich brown not quite black with a slight mocha head that leaves average side lacing as it fades.

S - Very sweet roasted malts and fresh ground coffee beans (due to the bitterness and roast malts). A bit too sweet for me.

T - More of the same as the nose with lots aof rich, roasted malts and espresso flavours along with some light chocolate. The malts are abit too sweet.

M - Smooth, creamy, with good carbonation.

O - I enjoyed this stout. Its fairly standard and easy to get around here. An acceptable stout.
