From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. 2012 batch. Sampled on November 17, 2012.

The pour is a handsome looking garnet, dark amber with a whole lot of soapy tan head that slowly simmers down.

Wheat is played down on the nose considering it is an Autumn Wheat Ale. But there is a rich ester of dark, roasted malts and the slightest hint of hops.

The body is medium and smooth.

Like the aroma the taste is focused more on the dark, roasted caramel malts with a tickle of crispy hops leading to a low bitterness on the back side. But the wheat is hard to come by.
As a Dunkel this is quite good.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Samuel Adams pint glass. Purchased at Wakefield Liquors in Wakefield, RI.

A- Pours a clear, amber-red body with a medium off white head that reduces slowly and leaves little lacing.

S- Caramel, toffee, bready-malt backbone.

T - Starts with a caramel, lighly roasted malt flavor and ends nutty with vanilla undertones. Aftertaste is piney and hoppy to balance the malt.

M- Medium carbonation, medium body. Crisp.

Overall a flavorful, nicely balanced autumn brew. It hit all the flavors that I like in an octoberfest. Worth a try.

A- A dark brown, almost black, beer pours nicely into a pint glass with a large off-white cap forming. Head retention is very nice and thick lace forms right at the top of it. Webs of lace continue nicely down the glass leaving some large patches by the time the beer is finished.

S- Malts lend nutty, cocoa, coffee and roasted cracked grain notes to start off the aroma. Beyond that there are hints of butter, dark fruits and caramel. Reminiscent of roast-heavy Brown Ales. Loses some strength with time.

T- The heavy malt base makes up the majority of the flavor as well. Specialty grains lend notes of toasted nuts, cocoa, cereal grains, caramel and a hint of wheat. Yeast provides a shot of dark fruits, cloves, banana and a tiny bit of bread. Hops really don't have a role in this beer besides bittering balance.

MF- The body overall is light but the wheat adds a nice substance and silky, creamy feel which helps support the flavors. Carbonation is at a moderate level and there is just a hint of bitterness in the finish.

Drinks pretty much like an American Brown Ale with a pretty large dose of roasted specialty grains. Also reminds me just a bit of some European Dark Ales.

I'm watching some bad horror flicks tonight.

Another Fall brew to try. Pours dark brown with little head. Smells somewhat marzen-like - malts & wheat.

This is a major disappointment from Mayflower. Has a very bland toasted malt flavor. There's a slight hop bitterness at the finish. Just lacking flavor all around. Berkshire's River Ale is light years beyond this.

I'm a fan of Mayflower - they put out some good stuff. Their porter is outstanding. This is a major misstep. They should can this next season and develop a more traditional Fall beer.

A-Pours a rich, dark chestnut brown. Mostly clear. Head is creamy and tan. It retains very well but the lacing is very soft.

S-The rare nose of a darkened Wheat Beer. Charred wheat. Chocolate chip banana bread. Caramel and ore wheat.

T-Flavor is very reminiscent of Pumpernickel bread glazed in caramel. Baked banana slices. Oats and grains. Chocolate chip pancakes. Scorched wheat. Man, Dark Wheats need some more attention. There is a great canvas to play with.

M-Creamy like a Dunkel or a Weizenbock, but the carbonation is much more divisive and coarse. No bitterness. Medium bodied. Some sips feel fuller than others.

O/D-I enjoyed this a bit. Berkshire's River Ale is an upgrade, but this is a perfect Fall brew; especially when you are sick of all the Pumpkin Ales out there. Pretty drinkable too!

Received a 12 FL. OZ. bottle of this in a trade w/ LarryG. Poured from the Tan Mapped (hence Mayflower...) & Labeled bottle w/ the Mayflower Ship on the front into a 16oz Dewey's Pizza Pint Glass. Does not have a freshness date to be found on the bottle.

Aroma- Extreme amount of caramel and sweet aromas hitting the nose hard. After this, a light amount of floral hop pops out. All very clean and sweet.

Appearance- Pours a 2 finger head that seems to last for ages! Has a deep amber colored body with great clarity. Leaves VERY thick lacing behind.

Flavor- Has a nice Cracker Jack taste from the beginning that keeps up throughout the drink! Very sweet and has a bit of caramel as well. Light roastiness and a bit of a burnt flavor. Light bitterness at the finish but mostly smooth.

Mouthfeel- Light Bodied, High Carbonation, Smooth, and then a big time metallic taste is left on the palate towards the end of the drink... Such a shame!

Overall Impression- A very interesting "Dark Wheat" beer... Almost like a Shwarzbier or Black Ale but doesn't have the malt to support it. The metallic finish I found was very uncool though... However, I am aging my Mayflower Imperial Stout at the moment and excited for this! Thanks Larry!
