I've been liking the Mayflower beers quite a bit. I just noticed I haven't reviewed many of them however, so I'll have to start getting on that.

A: A pasty bleached white 2 finger head rises up and fades at a medium pace over a very light pale straw colored hazy yellow beer.

N: Zut alor, wheat galor! It's a fest of wheat in the nose. It's like a bunch of wheat beers got together and threw a party and invited a rye pale ale, and they just had a huge gang bang. The wheat ale adds a slight citrus, clove, banana, juicy fruit, lemon zest, you know the drill. I get just the slightest spicy rye hint in the nose.

T: Yep, just as suspected. Juicy wheat flavored beer, but not as much of a typical wheat as the nose was. Some wheat with touches of lemon zest, citrus, but the rest just disappeared. I get some juicy fruit flavors with that, some light hops, mostly grassy and spicy, a little cascade fresh dry hop flavor, and some spicy rye. I think that juicy fruit flavor also may stem slightly from the rye and some from the malts. The fresh hop flavor and some lightly sweetened malts adds a very homebrew fresh wort flavor like I just threw in the dry hops.

M: Medium to lighter body with decent carbonation.

F: Pretty bitter actually, not crazy over the top, but a nice bitterness comes through with teh grassy, slight spicy, and pale hops that again have a fresh Cascade dry hop taste. They are accentuated with the dryness. It gets dry, and I mean really dry. Imagine that it just keeps getting drier, and drier, until is really, really dry. Imagine that, being way, way too dry... (don't remember the exact South Park quote but you get the idea). It's very dry. Lots of wheat lingering, with some hints of spicy rye but barely there. This is a tasty beer and pretty refreshing. Being less than 4% it drinks really well too, I could pound many of these without skipping a beat.

Drank a few bottles of this, before deciding to pour one.
Hmm. It's very white. It's a wit-rye, if you will.
Table-beer strength, reasonable pepper and white wine notes for such a sessionable offering.
Drinks nicely, but lack of depth kind of leaves it wanting -- which I admit can be a good thing. But the base note is hard to find .... I'm left with watery pale wit that has a few interesting notes jumping out. Nice beer for 90 and humid, which it is right now.

Normally I find Mayflower's offerings to be reliably good, with great character. This one, I'm afraid, strikes me as featureless. A pale blond that's a little too pale, almost tasteless, faint nose. The feel is crisp - on a hot day this will have a refreshing feel, but to me, it has no more satisfaction than a bottle of fizzy water.

On draft at the Meadhall in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA

A - Faint yellow with moderate carbonation and a fluffy white 1-finger head.

S - light wheat, floral hops and peppery rye, some notes of citrus rind and brown grass.

T- follows the nose exactly. Really fantastic.

M- light but not watery, and extremely refreshing. Exactly what I want in a session beer.

Overall this is one of the best session ales I've had and at 3.7% really fits the definition. An excellent summer brew.

Bleached white, uneven surface with many larger bubbles forming random peaks, crests a little over one finger, holds on well enough, the lacing forms as a thin, broad sheet which easily slides back down into the liquid below. The liquid itself is as pale as imaginable, looks like yellow tap water, mild translucency, one big storm of large bubbles rise swiftly upwards. The nose comes across as somewhat “skeletal” as in gaunt and not much happening, floral with chamomile and citrus blossom notes, unprocessed grains, chief most rye, black peppercorns, metallic accents, any fruit to be had mainly green grapes, apples and apricot pits, has sufficient weight to persist in the nostrils. Light-bodied, the lack of flavor is evident from the start making it feel even more dilute. Iron flecks, lemon peels, water crackers, pepper, used tea bags, here does not have the level of florality found in the nose. The carbonation is muscular and round in character, not so much tingly or scrubbing. Muddled white pit fruits and apples. Almost has to have a clean finish as there’s not enough there to make a mess with.
