I really do love wheat beers, and this one was a Belgian white. But it wasn't what I was hoping for.

The beer poured out a cloudly, yellowish color, more so than other whites I've tried - it didn't look to appealing to me. As far as a scent or odor - I couldn't smell one - nothing, nada, zip - I almost inhaled the beer trying to smell something from it.

Mouthfeel was worse than what I've experienced from other beers and the taste was just marginally better than other Belgian beers I have tried. I did get to taste the orange flavor and the coriander and all that - but it just didn't impress me.

Overall, I think I'm being a bit generous on the rating - maybe I picked up an old bottle or something. I'll give it another try, but not after I partake of others I enjoy.

pour is a light golden yellow with a tight white head. The nose has a ton of yeasty spice, light pepper, coriander, light lemon. Not quite as dusty and spicy as the nose, a bit more lemony and sweet. Still, strong balance and not sugary. Dry finish and strong carbonation, lightly champagne esq. The strong zest and yeast characteristic seem to slightly mute the overall flavor but still a nice refreshing beer.

[Best served in a Weizen glass]

The pour was a medium golden yellow with a huge (3-4 finger) white sudsy head that receded rapidly, down to a layer of thin puddles and a medium collar with some fair spotty lacing.

The aroma was of a straw malt and a soapy yeast with notes of citrus (lime), wheat and a bit of coriander.

The taste was lightly sweet and quite yeasty from the beginning with a decent wheat presence, a good dose of citrus and a bit of spice towards the end. The flavor lasted an average time following the swallow with the wheat lime flavor left to linger.

Mouthfeel was light in body with a slight dry yet watery texture and a moderate carbonation.

Overall a tasty Witbier with a nice lime citrus twist...

This is another of tone77's many bottles to keep me busy when not actively engaged in The CANQuest (TM). I am reminded that it has been over four years since TheChauffeur1 and I visited on our month-long journey. Wow, time flies like an arrow while fruit flies like a banana!

From the bottle: "Beer of the Conch Republic"; "Belgian-style ale brewed with spices & Key Lime"; "Head south. You've made it. The Southernmost Point. The Conch Republic. Home of the Sunset. You're as far South as you can go in the Continental USA. Now the sun, the sand and the ocean waves are calling your name. That slower-paced, sun-drenched lifestyle is patiently standing by. And the distinctive all natural flavors of coriander, orange peel and Key lime that grace this white-wheat ale are waiting for you to pop the top off and dive right in."

I greatly agitated this so as to ensure anything that may have floculated would be in suspension. It also meant waiting for it to settle so that it would not explode on me, but now I (and it) am/are ready to go. The pour produced a finger of foamy, bone-white head that simply could not last in the face of today's humidity. Color was a murky orangish-yellow, reminiscent of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Nose had the spice of the coriander and the citrusiness of the orange and lime as expected. Mouthfeel was medium and I got an unexpected tartness on the tongue as though the fruit was not interacting well or they had just used too much of it. Either way, I know that I have had more refreshing examples of the style. Finish was dry, but kind of bland and boring, without any real snap to it. A once and done, sorry.

Poured in weizen glass, chilled

A: cloudy dark yellow with a one-finger head that melts down into microbubbles--attractive
S: Belgian yeasts (with pear) dominate
T: Decent, benign Belgian wheat; not complex and not flavorful, but still appealing in the pear and apple flavors that exist.

A wheat-beer hater would not know this is a wheat beer--kudos!

Poured from the bottle a hazy nectarine color with no head to speak of.

Aroma of pineapple, tangerine, peach, herbs and cracker.

The taste was lightly tart peach, pineapple, and tangerine along with herbal notes and wheat cracker. Finished clean.

Lighter bodied and dry with very little carbonation.

Not a bad little wheat beer. I liked the tropical flavors while on vacation in Florida.

Style: Witbier

LOOK: Cloudy, peach colored brew with active carbonation rising to the surface. Head dies down to a ring around the edges.

SMELL: Dry, crackery wheat smell, lemon and curacao orange peel, coriander and clove.

TASTE: Light and airy, with lemon tang and a light spice. Fairly strong hop bitterness. Citrusy, partly from orange peel and lime additions. Grainy and earthy as well. Wheat malt, citrus and spice altogether work pretty well.

FEEL: Well carbonated on a light-medium bodied beer. Has a more or less clean finish with some spices and Belgian yeast lingering into the aftertaste.

OVERALL: Seen by many as an ideal vacation beer, the Key West Southernmost Wheat is a solid representation of a witbier. Would pair nicely with marinated steak tacos. Above average.

Great Beer while on vacation

This beer probably gets some extra points as every thing taste better on vacation.

Pours nice and the color is on the money for the style.

The taste is well balanced and surprised me that the taste was very on the traditional Belgium style Wit and not your normal American Wheat beers.

Nice flavors and the lime twist was very subtle and works well with a nice smell

I had low expectations when I bought this beer but was very surprised on how good good it was.. Well done!!

Surprisingly tasty. The tagline of 'Belgian style with spices and key lime' had me a little on edge, but in the end no worries. I'm not a huge fan of coriander, however, the spices and the lime are blended well enough that you don't notice it too much. Makes for a nice warm weather brew.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into my parents Outback Bowl beer glass. Picked up as part of a mix/six at Total Beer & Wine.

Pours cloudy yellow, light foam. Lime citrust smell. Wheaty too. Taste is a very strong key lime, but in a way that blends with the overall wheatiness. Tart citrus dominates, but not to a puckering level. Light and refreshing all at once. some orange/corriander too.

A different take on a wit, with pretty good results.

Appearance - Pours a very hazy, pale yellow-golden color with barely any head. It fizzes very loud and dissipates instantly. No lacing is present..

Smell - Mostly consists of lime and clove.

Taste - Strong flavors of lime and citrus, along with clove, coriander, orange zest, wheat, and quite malty.

Mouthfeel - Light body with high carbonation.

Overall - This is a very refreshing and good tasting beer.. Quite acidic so watch out if you're the type to get heartburn.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy yellowish color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, some spice. Taste is the same citrus, some wheat tartness, a touch of spice, refreshing but not overly flavorful. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

Poured into hoegaarden mug.

Pours a hazy golden yellow. small head. leaves a little lacing. definitely tastes of lime. a bit citrusy and very limey. Best lime flavored beer I have had. Nice medium body. Would be a great beer on a hot summer day down here in florida.

Got this beer from a beer of the month club.
Has a light hazey yellow color with a small head no laceing. Has a strong citrisy banana clove with slight grassyness to it. Good overall taste sweet citris wheat. Would buy agian the wife also likes it seems like a good summer beer something to drink on a hot day.

Poured into a Shiner Bock pint glass. No readable freshness date.

A- Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a 1/4 inch head that almost instantly fizzes away to nothing...like absolutely no foam or bubbles (besides the ones rising from the bottom) at all.

S- Wheat followed by Belgian yeast that's not very apparent. Faint orange smell with a touch of wet cardboard. Overall pretty bland.

T- The wheat and Belgian yeast are more noticeable in the flavor. The usual bubblegum notes with some lemony zest to it. A tad of spice. Much better than what I was expecting considering how lifeless the beer seemed at first, although I am kind of a sucker for Belgian wheat ales. Not really picking up lime as much as I am orange and lemon but that's no big deal.

M- Not much carbonation in this one, which was expected considering how little bubbles and foam were present in the pour. Other than that, pretty slick and tangy from the citrus notes.

O- Not bad, but not great. Would be a perfect beer to drink under the sun of the Keys if it had more carbonation to it.

A – I assume my (bad?) pour resulted in zero and I mean zero head, opaque golden yellow with pale edges 2
S – Lime, grapefruit, dried grass, grain, yeast 3.5
T – short version… Lime & orange wheat. Long version… lime, wheat middle, to a tart orange zest finish, slight coriander. Clean & potentially refreshing… but all around I’m not enjoying this brew greatly 2.5
M – Light in body, a watery beer with excessive carbonation 2
O – A Key Lime twist on a light citrus wit that fails to achieve liftoff, lots going on but not well coordinated 2.5

A: Straw hazy yellow pour with a tiny head of white dusting

S: Great smell of belgian wit yeast , spices of coriander, orange peel, and tangerine.

T: Just as the aroma implies, this is a nice belgian wit with some coriander spicing. Mid body there is a bit of a chalky taste mixing with noble hops that are pretty well represented.

M: A light to medium light body with mild carbonation.

O: An enjoyable witbier, glad to have tried it.

A- pale yellow straw with a hazy body, and a white cap on top.

S- belgian spices coming through, coriander specifically. The lime is the pleasant twist here, where usually you would expect orange.

T- Bready and yeasty, with coriander and light orange. The lime adds a unique sour and tart profile.

O- Really nice surpise here. Every wit is the same these days, and I like them so it's fine. But a tarter version was a great change of pace.

A - Cloudy grapefruit juice, with a small white head that sink pretty quick.

S - Coriander, , a sugary bbq-like smoke aroma, green bananas, tangy yeast.

T - Citrus hops, tangy wheat, key-lime is noticeable and adds a nice tartness. Slightly bitter and clean on the finish.

M - Light bodied, active carbonation, slightly peppery on the tongue.

A good amount of key limes blend with the yeast and spices to really make a different kind of Wit. Nice clean flavors.

Bottle poured into my Real Madrid weizwn glass. Hazy light yellow, looks a bit like prima pils. Less head than I expect from a witbier, especially given the high carbonation. Pour resulted in slightly more than a finger's worth of bright white tight bubbles. Decent lacing, but not exceptional.

Smells like a typical wit, a little bit stronger than Hoegaarden and less spicy and more citrusy than the germans. The bottle states that it is brewed with 2 kinds of hops, one being cascade. I can't smell (or taste) the cascade, but I'll take their word for it.

Surprisingly, I can taste the lime. It tastes like a wit, with a lime. The lime presence isn't quite as strong as it would be in say a certain mexican corn-lager with a lime dropped in, but it definitely there. Not bad, but I'm a purist with my wits. Interesting aftertaste, the lime and citrus lingers a bit more than desired.

Mouthfeel is medium, with high carbonation. Slightly heavy for a wit, but fairly typical, especially the high carbonation.

Overall, this is a good American wheat beer. Not as good as Brooklyn's wheat, but I like it better than SN's kellerweis. That being said, I would seek out a German hefeweizen before this one.

A - Cloudy whitish yellow color, a fizzy white head that burns away quickly leaving no lacing

T - Banana again, light wheat, sour notes of key lime definitely come through, no real hop presence

O - Ok lawnmower beer, the addition of the key lime is cute, but there's not a ton of complexity here, I think one is my limit.

Pours a cloudy bright light orange color with the typical wit whittish hue. The head was rather small and disappointing, settled into a barely there ring.

The aroma is big on the coriander which is on par for the style. The coriander gives the beer what I consider that post farmers market veggie funk. Kind of like rotting produce, which is why I am not a big fan of this style. There are notes of white pepper and orange peel; I didn't pick up much of the key lime.

The taste is of a light wheat base with a huge coriander spice note. Some white pepper and a veggie characteristic. I pick up a light tartness which I assume is from the lime. The flavor is rounded out by the orange peel. Average for the style.

The feel is fairly light with spritzy carbonation. Sweet overall on the palate but finishes noticably dry.

A ho-hum wit ale. It hits on the main style characteristics. It could use less coriander and key lime and more belgian malts and yeast.

Wit brewed with Real Key-Lime
12oz->Saison Dupont glass

A ~ Quite an aggressive pour yielding a 1/4" of head
in an effervescent ring. Slightly murky orange with a brown tone.

S ~ Good punch of tangy yeast with the key-lime coming through rather nicely...hint of spice (coriander)

T ~ Very spirited, subtle flavors: A touch of key-lime, touch of pear, touch of sun-kissed grain/malt & a touch of spice all on a lovely soft body of mellow citrus-peel & yeast. Wonderful.

M ~ Nice balance! Malt does not attack the palette one bit & the addition of key lime was very refreshing & pleasantly tart.

D ~ Was extremely surprised by this one. Would not expect a beer representing Key West to be true to form. Extremely delicious, should be seeked out.
