Reddish brown, rusty color, some head that disappears quickly, no lacing. Looks a bit thin. Nose is sweet and malty, sliiiightly nutty. It's quite potent, actually. Also getting a little bit of alcohol in the nose, as well as some prunes.

Taste is a little muted compared to the nose, and finishes with a bitter hops flavor. I was hoping for a liiiittle more after the nose.

Mouthfeel is a lil thin, a little sudsy. Over all, this is pretty drinkable- goes down easy, isn't overpowering, probably a good session brew.

It pours a hazy orange in color with almost no head. The nose is malty sweet, with a trace of hop bite to finish. It’s non-offensive, but does possess a tinny malty finish with slight medicinal notes. As a session strength beer, the body was relatively light and very drinkable. Admittedly, this beer was probably six months old and no longer in its intended state, but still, this is a brew with an identity problem.

While it’s not lousy – I had a couple of them to be sure – it certainly isn’t any of the things indicated by the little graphic chart or the label. It would probably more closely resemble a märzen or Vienna style, if it were a lager (which it may well have been), but it’s certainly not what the label implies.

I don't get what the gold part of this brown ale is. It looks brown with a current or red running through it. Aroma was typical unexceptional brown ale wood and malt.

Taste, a mild brown, it was smooth. No hops, probably comes close to fitting that lame traditional 4% session definition or whatnot. Doesn't tire the palate out with much heft, alcohol or hops. Usual stuff, nutty, caramel, toffee in here.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass.

Pours a copper brown color, fairly light. Very little initial white foam, with quick dissipation. Smell is lightly nutty, hints of caramel.

Taste is lightl sweet, barely crosses to sour but holds. Clean, little carbonation. Coffee and nut notes.

Overall a decent brown brew.

Clear brown with an off-white head, little retention and lacing. There are some very sweet malt and toffee aromas going on in this which I found to be pretty good. First taste is a little light, but some nice sweet flavors come through quickly and finishes with a bit of nutty flavors. Medium carbonation and body. Thanks to Degarth for the bottle.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a 20oz imperial pint. Thanks to neubernie for the hook-up!

Best before 5/11/08. Waaay past the best by date!

A: Pours a faintly hazy golden brown color with a small and bubbly off-white head that leaves just a touch of lace.

S: Nice nutty aroma, with a healthy helping of caramel, coffee, and chocolate.

T: See above. Toasty malt, caramel, chocolate, nut, toffee, earthy hops, and coffee.

M: Crisp and full with a nice coating sensation. Slightly prickly hoppy finish.

D: Pretty good and darn sessionable. Given that this was about 7 months past the best by date, I was expecting this to be drainpour. This beer, however, aged especially well. Nice surprise!

Got this one out of the Ybor mix pack. Sreved it chilled in a pint glass. Poured a thin looking brown color with a wee head. Smelled had some caramel malt in there and some very mild citrus malts and a kiss of toffee in the background. Taste was a little thin but still that caramel malt and kind of like used coffee grounds. Needs a little more complexity.

Appearance :Amber colored , with a small creamy head...Very nice.

Smell: Some far caramel and grains.

Taste: Caramelized, hops very present, some kind of sweetness.very Nice.

Mouthfeel & Drinkability: Very nice to drink not any kind of hard taste. I would love to this beer again

Purchased this as part of a 15 beer assorted Ybor package.

Poured a dark amber color, lighter than many brown ales. Approximately one finger of off white head with some lacing.

The original smell is light and sweet with a trace of caramel malt and hops. The taste is much lighter than my favorite brown ales and has less body. More hop taste than malt. The mouth feel is okay, but nothing special. The finish leaves me wanting to rinse out my mouth. I won't throw it out, but I wouldn't purchase it again.

Ybor Gold Brown Ale pours a dark copper color with an off white head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. There's a bit of a nutty, malty aroma. The mouthfeel is thicker than I would have expected (a pleasant surprise). There is a decent amount of hops that are pretty well balanced by the nutty, malt flavor. This one is a winner, much better than most of the offerings I've had from this brewer. Definitely worth a try.

From a 12 oz bottle from the Ybor multipack, "June" notched on the freshness date, though quite alarmingly, only "03, 04, and 05" were listed for years. I'm assuming "2007."

Into the pint glass, a good brown color with a reddish tint; fairly vigorous pour yields a one-finger brown head that quickly fades to a spotty cap with no lacing. Rather disappointing appearance. Nose contains obvious malt and faint yeast. Good malty character in the mouth, semi-sweet balanced against dry, mildly bitter hops. Pretty good tasting beer but not remarkable. Mouth is a bit watery, again disappointing for a brown ale, and softly carbonated. Drinkability is good overall; this beer is easily sessionable.

Overall: A decent but unremarkable brown ale. Worth a try.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into Pint glass. Label states best by date '03,'04 and '05. This was a gift to me and by the dates doesn't look very promising.

Appearance: 1" head after vigorous pour almost completely dies into nothingness. Tea brown in color.

Smell: Very faint smell of sweet brown sugar, molasses, slight vapor of alcohol and overripe fruit.

Taste: very mild sweetness, not as sweet as the aroma would indicate. Stale tasting, probably due to being long outdated. Bitterness at finish, but not necessarily hop bitterness. Flat in flavor, yet lingering aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: extremely low carbonation, astringent and watery

Drinkability: This beer has obviously seen it's prime go by. Wouldn't look forward to two in a row of this beer. I've had this beer dozens of times and while it's never been a great beer, it's usually more palatable than this.

In college, I was a big fan of English Browns. Since those days, I've not been too big on them. I drink a Newcastle Brown every now and then, when there's really not much else. I guess the sweet, nutty flavor just isn't my thing anymore.

Saying that - this is not a bad beer. It fills pretty much all of the above but it's a bit better than your Newky. It was a bit sweet and I was really ok with just having one. I guess if you're big into Browns this will do you well.

Pours a dark brown with a quickly dissapearing white head. Smell is faint with grain small hints of caramel and coffee. Taste is a little overly watered down with roasted coffee, a little caramel and a slight hop bitterness to finish. This is not a bad brew, it just does not even come close to some of the top Brown Ale's out there. Okay but nothing special.

12 oz. bottle. Poured a drak brown/copperish color. Head was almost nonexistent. The aroma was fairly mild, with malt, caramel, and some burnt toast. Taste was primarily malt, with enough hops to provide a good balance. As it warmed some fruit flavors came through. Mouthfeel was of medium body and fairly low carbonation. Overall, pretty easy to drink, but not terribly impressive.
