This is definitely my local hangout. Great brews, good food, and good friends can't be beat. They're young and still playing with their brews, which is fun because there's always a surprise in store. They've got your typical hop-heavy Northwest brews, plus a bunch of Belgian style stuff and lately have been releasing some crazy Brett stuff. You have to go at least weekly, or you'll be missing out on something!
The food is good, but pretty basic. Pizza being my favorite fare. Note that they do cater to veggie/vegan palettes too. They've also go bands regularly and are located off the 'strip' and away from the maddness of downtown Hood River.
If you're visiting from out of town, skip Full Sail and come here!! Some early, though, because it fills up fast :)

Conveniently located downtown, walking distance from everything.
Liked their beers a whole lot. They were bold and unique styles. Got a sampler with all 8 of their offerings, none let me down. I really loved their "BPA", a IPA/Belgian hybrid .
Atmosphere is nice. Comfortable bar, nonsmoking, some couches in the corner, outdoor seating. Good place to spend an evening, very laid back with good music, dim lighting and good atmosphere. Locals come here, (which means its good!) and the prices are reasonable.
If your hungry for a full dinner, go to Big Horse, but if a pizza or munchies are your thing, XX Mountain has a decent pubfare menu, better than Full Sail.
Recommendation for the night:
Visit Big Horse for dinner, wander down to Full Sail (3 blocks) and give it a try, then come here to Double Mountain Taproom and enjoy the rest of your night with their sampler or a pint. Great little place!!

After enjoying a brewery tour at Full Sail, we headed over to Double Mountain to finish up the afternoon. We had a sampling of the Devil's and Rainier Kriek's in addition to the Hop Lava. The Kriek's were fantastic! (2009 vintage) Especially the Rainier.
There were plenty of other beers on tap and I wish I had it in me to try more but we had just finished a session at the Full Sail tap room and drinking more was not in the cards.
Pretty cool vibe and story behind the place. Super low key, nice outdoor seating, an overall friendly place. Love the logo...cool merchandise. Weather was great! Good memories and I can't wait to go back.

My wife and I did a three-day, 16 brewpub tour of northeastern Oregon. Double Mountain came out as one of the top three on the tour (Laurelwood and Roots being the others). We did all three of the beer brewing joints in Hood River. Don't waste your time at Full Sail - the beers were so bad we left with our sampler 60% full. Double Mountain is right around the corner. It's a small, cozy joint occupied mostly by locals. We had their sampler which I think was 5 beers. They give a generous pour so you can do a nice evaluation of their beers. The stout was phenominal. I can't say I like Kolsch, but theirs was good enough to make a convert of me. The bartended told me they would be bottling in the near future.

We made the trek out to Hood River for a short kayak trip while visiting Portland for the Oregon Brewer's Festival. We all loved Hood River. The views were stunning and there were lots of great shops, wineries and restaurants. But my favorite part of he town is Double Mountain.
The Double Mountain tap room is a small and simple but very impressive operation. They had several of their beers on tap but being the hophead that I am, I stuck to the Molten Lava (an Imperial IPA) and Hop Lava (an IPA). The Molton Lava was certainly the more complete product but the Hop Lava had a nice way of letting the hops run wild. Both were outstanding and very memorable.
The service was very good as well. One of the guys behind the bar was one of several operator / owners. As I understand it, they broke away from Full Sail and started the place. He was very helpful and clearly had a passion for beer and the business behind it.
We had a couple of appetizers as well. One was a greek sampler plate with hummus, feta, pita bread, peppers, olives and some grape leaf wrapped something or other. It was fantastic. I highly recommend it. The other was chips and salsa. The chips were only OK but the salsa was pretty good.
Double Mountain is as good as it gets for craft beer / hop lovers. Check it out.

Stopped by Double Mountain a couple of times during a weekend camping trip near Hood River... wow, I was really glad I found this place! I had a feeling it would be pretty awesome when I stepped out of my car and could smell wort drifting on the evening breeze from around the corner! First night, I tried the Hop Lava and finished things off with a couple of Dapper Dan's (their 3.7% session ale) - also had the turkey and cheddar sandwich, which was nothing mindblowing, but definitely filled me up and was stacked with meat and cheese. The vibe was pretty chill, and the staff was friendly - eager to chat about kite surfing, snowboarding and beer. Stopped back in on my way to Portland and had the Killer Green fresh hopped IPA, which was awesome. A nice, chill spot to have a couple of delicious beers -

This place is awesome. I was under the impression they opened at 4 so I thought I'd miss checking it out but low and behold it was open at 2 when I happened to walk by.
The place is pretty small but the beer is incredible. They had their regular stuff on tap as well as a strong Belgian ale called the Ardennes as well as an barrel aged offering.
You can get samples, pints and food at this place. What more can you ask for. The decor is really cool with an amazing bar and wooden cabinetry.
This is definitely your beer destination in Hood River. Awesome little place.

It's a healthy sign of the sustained emergence of craft beer in our region that a town as small as Hood River can support three brewpubs. It's an even better sign that all three are worthy of such support. The newest arrival is Double Mountain. It's fitting somehow that DM is just two blocks from Full Sail where craft brewing in the Hood began in 1987 and where DM's two brewers learned their craft.
Double Mountain made the daring move of starting with a 20 bbl brewing system. That's a Herculean rig for a neighborhood brewpub and affords them excess brewing capacity suitable for growth and expansion. No doubt it's expensive. But it's perhaps better to tailor recipes for a system you plan to grow with, rather than growing into a new system and risk tinkering with those established favorites. It's not difficult to quickly name a dozen or more breweries in our region that have endured the disruptive pleasure of expansion. Why not start big and skip the growing pains?
The pub itself is much smaller than the big tanks might imply. The one-room bar is tastefully decorated with stained glass art, breweriana and potted plants. Seats are wood and leather, and the bar is polished copper. An adjunct lounge with a sofa and coffee table extends into the adjoining garage bay where an open space serves as storage or a potential spot for live music. The brewery can be seen at the rear. And if you stand on a chair, you can just about see the Columbia River from one of the outdoor tables.
Both the food and beer menus are streamlined to core essentials. Take your pick among salads, sandwiches, pizzas and a dessert or two. Though the choices are limited, the quality is commendable. Beer listings are also scaled down to a half dozen house beers with no cask, nitro, or guests. Most beers are amply, if not brazenly hopped and are individualistic and modern in their composure. In particular, the non-traditional kölsch is well accented with concise bittering. But avoid the Devil's Kitchen. Organic malts and northwest hops feature prominently.
The scene as a whole is Dude-centric.

Well next time your in Hood River don't pass this spot up. Just around the corner from the large Full Sail brewery.
They have plenty of styles of beers to choose from from double IPAs to robust porters.
I stopped in after a visit to Full Sail, small but unique brewpub with about 10 taps, of their brew.
Tried the winter seasonal Falalala, and wow this is a strong ale with great hop taste. Also had the Hoplava which is a great IPA.
Food looked good, however I had already ate before getting here.

Awesome place to get a beer and food. main focus is pizzas, and they are some of the best i've ever had! make sure to hit up happy hour: $5 greek salad is enormous and delicious, and $10 smaller versions of the pizza. service is great, never been disappointed.
