American Pale Ale (APA) |  6.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round. on-tap (21), bottle (7)

Notes:
"THE VAPORIZER" is a golden-hued Pale Ale that features a beautifully hoppy aroma and flavor. The malt is 100% Gambrinus Pilsner, our sweet and supple house malt from Gambrinus Malting in British Columbia. The hops are primarily of the Challenger variety, grown on a single farm in the Yakima Valley. We dry-hop "THE VAPORIZER" to pump up the hoppy goodness. It's an appetizingly dry, clean and pure-tasting take on a hoppy Pale Ale."

Brewed with Gambrinus Pilsner malt and Challenger hops. 6% ABV, 50 BU

A: Light gold, nice lacing, no retention.

S: Honey, good malt, but pretty bland overall.

T: Quite a bit of hops and some so-so apricot flavor. Nothing special. Pretty strong barley malt.

M: Dry, good carbonation, non-astringent.

D: OK, but taste makes it hard to drink fast.

Enjoyed at the Oregon Brewer's Festival 2010

Hazy gold with a huge three fingers of white head. Billows of lacing.
Smell is some floral hops and mostly biscuit malts.
Taste is malt all the way. There is a nice bitter hop hit following the malts.
Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.
Medium bitter finish. Overall not what I was expecting. I am a Pale Ale fan and this was much more an uber Pils. Tasty beer nonetheless. Might try again when the weather warms up some.

A - crystal clear yellow, mild head, quickly dissipating
S - lemony citrus, fresh spring air
T - sweet upfront, light barnyard, citrus, with some weak floral undertones. Clean aftertaste.
M - moist, smooth, refreshing

Overall, I was underwhelmed. It was enjoyable, and definitely a solid session beer, and the whole is surely greater than the sum of the parts. That being said, I can't point to any individual stellar aspects of this beer.

16.9oz : SN IPA Glass

Clear, golden yellow with a thick, foamy white head.

Herbal, grassy hops with a crisp, malty biscuit backing in both the nose and taste.

Medium+ body, foamy carbonation.

An interesting APA. Not the typical American hop-bomb I was expecting but still a solid brewed, well done beer.

A: Pours a very pale clear straw color with a huge, dense, oily, white head that slowly faded into a thick rocky film. Chunky lace was left down the glass.
S: Light pilsner malts mixed with light notes of herbal and pine hops. Crisp smelling and light.
T: Light flavors of pine, leafy herbal hops and crackery pilsner malt. Lightly bitter finish, clean aftertaste, faint lemon peel sourness. Light and easy overall. Good balance between pilsner malt and light hopiness.
M: Smooth mouth, crisp and refreshing, scrubbing soft carb. Drinks light and easy.
O: A very sessionable pale ale. Light and easy to drink. Would drink all day. Thanks Ryan.

500ml bottle -- 55 IBU
A; ginger ale; honey-yellow
S: an absolutely intense yeasty, papaya, tropical-fruit... but that fades quickly and soon turns stale and carboard.
T: very bright, clean, and bitter. Well balanced. With so little malt character it tastes to me more like a golden ale/blonde ale than a pale ale.
M: clean, fresh, medium-light bodied
O: not a bad beer but because it has so little character I certainly wouldn't seek it out again.

500ml bottle from Trader Joes in Salem. $3.79 Clear bright yellow beer with a nice sized bubbly white head. Perfumy sweet malts little grassy hop aroma detected. Get the dry hop in the flavour but its very well balanced by a slightly toasty, sweet malt. OK mouthfeel goes down without any problem. OK beer..though i get the feeling that TJs treat their beers horribly. This for me is a Blonde Ale.
