Notes:
"The "IRA", as it's known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite."
Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers' Gold hops. 6.8% ABV, 55 BU

Had this on tap at the Academy Theater in Portland, OR
A> The IRA is a good looking beer, a small one finger head that leaves nice lacing and seems to last forever. This beer is not red, more of a dark orange/rust color and very hazy.
S> The smell is subdued, faintly sweet malt with bursts of ripe grapefruit that come through every so often.
T> Delicious! The only knock I have is that the flavor is not too complex but when a beer is this delicious it's hard to complain. The IRA is perfectly balanced, just a wonderful play between the malts and citusy hops!
D> Very drinkable, wonderful mouthfeel. For me, this could easily be a session beer.
Overall the IRA is an incredibly enjoyable beer, striking a great balance that should please almost any fan of craft beer. In my opinion this is a beer that is not meant to be over analyzed, simply enjoyed, and double mountain accomplished this and created a wonderful beer.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium ruddy coppery amber with a half finger white head that dissipated to patchy islands and a ring around the glass. Aroma of bready malt, grassy hops; earthy and spicy. Flavor is dominated by grassy, earthy hops, herbal spiciness, finishes with citrus, some toasted malt notes, long residual hop bitterness. Medium bodied. Named as India Red Ale and has the strong malt body of the red ale style, as well as some additional hoppiness. Pleasant and interestingly flavored for a red. I think this is miscategorized here on BA; the intent, name and finished product is all in red ale territory.

Poured from a growler (filled April 26 at the taproom) into a conic pint glass in high elevation Libby, Mont. Reviewed live.
A_ Three finger cream-colored head with two-minute long retention. Sticky veins of lacing down the glass, dark-amber color with high clarity. Fine looking beer.
S- Musty hop-oil scent. Earthy and a stronger yeast character than is typically found in American IPAs. Different, appealing smell.
T- Musty, slightly sweet, mostly bitter malt-forward IPA. Little funky, but easily drinkable. Slight bitter aftertaste.
M- A medium-bodied beer that finishes dry and metallic. Not in an off-putting way though.
O- Above average beer. Not the best American IPA I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying, but certainly one that is a pleasure to drink.

500ml bottle. 65 IBU
A: deep copper; slightly hazy
S: clean, simple balance of malt and hops. Nice.
T: Rich, well-balanced; develops very nicely with a long slightly bitter finish. They've really balanced the malt and hops to create a taste that is full-flavoured and lingering.
M: full-bodied with crisp carbonation
O: I really like this beer. Big but balanced flavours. Nice line of bitterness. Flavours and mouthfeel like an Imperial IPA but thankfully without the high alcohol. How can this be the same brewery behind the bottle of The Vaporizer I had which really was not good. Must be the way Trader Joe's handles the beers as other have said.

Served on tap into a shaker glass
A- Served a hazy dark orange color with frothy off-white head that left lace that coated the entire glass
S- Pretty mild aroma. I got some earthy and piney hop character and some caramel and red malt character.
T- Big cereal grain character, red ale malt, and caramel notes. Some earthy and piney hop notes on the finish. Overall pretty malt forward with a nice burst of hop character on the finish. Moderate bitterness
M- Dry, pretty smooth and creamy, medium carbonation
O- A solid red ale, but lacking the hop character to be considered an India Red Ale.

500ml bottle into snifter. Thanks Abe!
A: Pours a murky dark amber with a thick, greasy, light cream colored head that slowly faded into a think and lasting film. A complex network of sticky lace was left down the glass.
S: Bitter hop resin and simcoe notes mixed with caramel malts and roasted grains. Faint sulfur as well.
T: Follows the nose with bitter herbal and simcoe hops, earthy finish, balancing sweet caramel malts, and toasted grains. Flavorful, malty and bitter.
M: Medium-full body, slick, greasy, oily hoppy mouthfeel with soft and smooth carbonation.
O: A great drinking beer, somewhere above average on the scale. There’s nothing really wrong with this beers it’s just not that amazing.

500ml bottle from Trader Joes in Salem. $3.79 Amber coloured body, slight haze, with a nice sized bubbly white head. Spicy semi sweet maltiness with a slight but obvious resinous hop. Taste is very balanced..between the toffee flvoured malts and the resinous/spicy hop. Nice Good mouthfeel low carbonation and great after tastes. A good beer..but i have this IMO as an amber ale!
