On tap at The Shed on 6/11/11.
A - Reddish copper body with a little more than a finger's width of fluffy off-white head that transformed into a thick screen of lacing.
S - Not a lot of character in the aroma, unfortunately. There is a hint of pine sap and some caramel and toffee malt sweetness, giving the nose more of a malt-forward character. A hint of alcohol also emerged as the liquid reached room temperature.
T - Sanity IPA is bitter, yes, but it lacks hop flavor. Overall, the hop character is kind of non-descript. I get a sense of some piney and citrus notes, but ultimately the hop bill seems unrealized. Finishes with a hint of burnt caramel, toffee and some nuttiness.
M - Pretty light bodied with a hint of syrupy texture amid its more watery base. Finishes pretty sweet with mild hop bitterness on the palate.
D - Bitter IPA but without a lot of true hop flavor. Overall, this is a pretty average, malt-forward IPA. Not sold on this one, I'm afraid.
