12 oz. can, picked up at The Wine Country, collaboration with Dogfish Head,

A: Pours a murky burnt orange, with a medium white head. Good head retention, frothy, limited lace.

S: Some tropical fruit, sourdough bread, papaya, but a fairly mild smell.

T: Sweet malt, orange, tropical fruit, pineapple, honey. I've never had breadfruit before, so I can't pinpoint where it's flavour is coming in, but this certainly tastes pretty good. Nice mix of flavours.

M: Medium-bodied, frothy, crisp carbonation. Tad cloying at times.

O: An interesting beer to try. I'm a sucker for new ideas and new ingredients in the brewing world. This is a $16-pack, but pick up a single to expand your palate.

A: Hazy orange golden in color. Poured with a thick white head that reduced to a thin sticky ring. Well carbonated to maintain the thin foam ring. Almost a green tinge in the sunlight. A couple of weird sediment pieces at the bottom.

S: Sweet and with passion fruit and wheat. Agave nectar. Like a tropical fruit drink mixed with a wheat beer.

T: Light refreshing and smooth up front. It finishes with a sweet and sour with sweetened lime and grapefruit. Very unique and refreshing.

M: Light and crisp. The slight sour taste finishes the beer very clean with no noticeable aftertaste. The high alcohol is barely even detected.

O: I'm quite impressed. A fascinating mix of sour sweet and wheat. Makes this beer a one of a kind. I've been really into sour beer lately, and this was a nice extension. It's not overly sweet like other fruit beers. If you can get over your fruit beer snobbery, I recommend this beer.

A: poured into a pint glass to a slightly hazed light gold with a small dense white head that fades to a small pool and collar around the glass
S: smells sweet and fruity with a hint of bitterness and base malt
T: tastes of a sweet fruitiness which I'm guessing is the breadfruit, a slight toastyness, a bit of caramel sweetness and more fruitiness, and slight bitterness. swallow is more tropical fruitiness, a slight toastyness and a slight earthy bitterness that lingers on the finish
M: heavy side of medium with soft and slightly prickly carbonation slightly drying finish
O: Interesting beer. good flavors and decent complexity but the mouthfeel is a bit too heavy in my opinion. It's pretty pricey as well. I got a single can instead of paying 16 for a six pack and I'm glad I did. Worth a try but not worth getting in bulk.

Appearance: Holy head, Batman! That's a level of froth that would do Santorum proud! White, pillowy, sensual. Cloudy yellow ale. Intriguing.

Smell: Wheat, earthy, mild spice and fruit.

Taste: Sweet, tangy, some heat form the alcohol but not nearly enough to justify the ABV. This one is deceptive, and will knock you on your ass if you're not careful.

Mouthfeel: Clean and scouring.

Overall: It's good, but the novelty of it doesn't justify the price. (In Arizona, I paid $12.99 for a sixer of this.) Worth a try, but honestly, not good enough to continue buying.

12oz, 12/31/13 (I like is what is on the bottom of the can)
DFH signature glass

A: Slightly hazy, bright orange color. Half finger of bright white head. Leaving some sticky lacing bits. Good carbonation.

S: Slight cardboard coming on. Then it's tropical fruits: papaya, mango, some of that pear they describe. Sweetness.

T: Still a touch of hop presence up front, 4 months since canning. Then you get those fruity yeasty esters. Papaya is a strong player here. Juiciness is there too. I guess the slight spice, bready flavor towards back of the palate that cuts in is the toasted seeds. Finish is dry. Some lingering esters.

M: Medium bodied. Carbonation is high.

12 oz can served chilled into a goblet.

Liquid Breadfruit is a hazy coppery orange color with thin white head. It leaves a little lace as it settles.

Aroma is fruity and slightly funky like peach saison. I would say tropical fruit but that seems rather obvious.

Flavor is unexpectedly bitter after that nice sweet aroma. I don't know if the fruit lends the bitterness or if its all from the hops but it comes as a surprise. The breadfruit and papaya bring the light fruity flavors but they seem to compete with the bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light in body and nicely carbonated. It's a fairly balanced beer but leans towards the bitter.

Overall a solid beer but I would have liked a sweeter take on this idea.
