If this is retired I must have found a finely aged bottle when I bought it on February 13, 2011. The pour gurgles deeply from the bottle and comes up jet black with a tiny hint of dark brown when held up to a light. Decent one inch head. For a 10% ABV the aroma emits little in the way of alcohol and much in the way of dark malts and burnt chocolate. A lining of hops can be noted on the nose after several deep whiffs. The big body results in a sweet chocolate, mild maltiness, and balanced hoppiness at the end. Enjoyable.

Into Jacks Abby snifter
A Very dark from the pour, almost opaque. 1 finger brown head forms and and moderate retention that leaves bubbles and a ring around the glass. Black in the glass with active carbonation.
S Roasted malts, dark fruit, booze. Some vanilla, rich sweet berries and almost partialys barrel aged. . Smells good and interesting
T Roast upfront along with some sweetness and finished with some slight hop. A little bit of smoke sneaks out at the end and finishes with a charred chocolate. Good amount of hops in this.
M Medium feel with moderate carbonation.
O Not a bad stout, lots going on. Id like to try some with alittle more time on it.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into an Amager snifter at the Armsby Abbey in Worcester, MA.
A: Dark brown. Perfect pour from the bartender filled the glass and left a 1 full finger cocoa colored head. Lacing strong and plentiful down the sides of the glass.
S: Big bouquet of cocoa, roasted coffee beans, molasses and a hoppy bitterness. Very very nice smell.
T: Such a complex mix of many of the flavors listed above with a perfect malt bill that wrapped this whole beer up in a perfectly balanced mix of stouty goodness.
M: Big thick bodied beer with a smooth finish.
O: A fantastic stout in a fantastic bar. I could not have asked for a better experience. Worth the bar price of $24.

500mL bottle from Hop City (Atlanta, GA). 9.99. No bottling information. Served in a Terrapin snifter.
Pours black with one and a half finger tan head. A bit of residual lace remains on the side of the glass.
Nose is roasty, cocoa and slightly smokey.
Well rounded flavors of chocolate, mild coffee, bitter cherry skins, smoke and dark malts. Alcohol is almost completely masked.
Medium full, creamy body. Adequete but not overdone carbonation.
A well rounded stout. Nothing stands out to make it spectacular but it's a smooth drinking brew. It's nice now and I suspect it will get even better over time.

Oh man, this is good. Poured a touch cold, with a smallish tan head that soon settles to a few foamy islands and a rign wiht plenty of lace. Color in even the narrow part of the glass is an absolutely opaque, pitch brown black. Aroma is roast, malt, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, and heady. Flavor's like nose, a rich blend of a balanced sweet, bitter and slight tang. Body is full, a little soft, but not too, and for such a big beer, easy driiniking. Finish is like flavor, sweet giving way to bitter, long, and very satisfying. Alcohol is fairly hidden. Really good beer.

Pitch black with a creamy, tan head. Fair head retention. Clearly a big beer.
Massive chocolate, coffee and alcohol on the nose. Some caramel sweetness. Luscious buttery espresso. Hints of smoke.
Really roasty with an almost phenolic note. Thin malt and alcohol. Some fruitiness. Hints of hazelnut and coffee. An interesting flavour.
Medium body with moderately-high carbonation. Disappointingly thin.
I quite like this but the palate is a bit unbalanced and the body is lacking. This could be really nice but the thin body takes so much away from it.

Draft at Capones in Norristown, PA.
Pours pitch black with a one finger dark beige head that slowly settles into a thin ring. Streaks of lacing left behind.
Slightly smokey, roasted malt aroma with hints of dark chocolate, coffee and floral, earthy hops. A bit tamer than expected with some nice roast and dark malt but kind of pedestrian.
Slightly chewy, medium body with a decent balance of roasted malt, lactic cream and silky chooclate. There's also a nice bitter and earthy hop presence toward the end of the plate that adds complexity and balance. Slight lactic cream presence but remains bitter throughout with hints of burnt toast, dark chocolate, oatmeal and coffee bean. Still, surprisingly not a complete malt bomb with some silky sweeter chocolate notes and peppery spice. Dry finish.

Thanks Shaun
A: Looks thin yet consistent and still brandishing a high specific gravity. This was served cold right out of the fridge and I practically had to shake it like a bottle of heinz ketchup to promote any head formation. Head was khaki latte and did stay and lace for a really long time once it showed up. Off-black body with ruby brown trim.
S: Nothing very strong, probably due to serving temp. Irish dry stout, a little alcohol, a little toffee, a little chocolate.
T: This is the best example of a well-rounded stout my memory can serve me with. Dry roastiness, chocolate, vanilla, a faint suggestion of coffee, just enough carbonation to distinguish it from a porter and still keep it silky.
M: Spot on carbonation for the style which only accentuates the flavors of the malts and detracts nothing from them. However this is significantly drying, even at the introduction of this serving. Originally gave this 4.5, but docked 0.5 bc the dryness is consistent and a little too much.
O: As the bottle states, this is indeed luxurious

First had: on tap at Capone's, Norristown, PA
Served in a snifter, pitch black color, with a modest tan head, minimal retention and lacing. Aroma of dark malts, very roasty, ash and smoke. More of the same in the taste: roast, ash, earth, notes of dark chocolate, toasted pumpernickel, and vegetal hops. Alcohol is pretty noticeable. Heavy-medium body, and quite drinkable for the style, though perhaps not quite as smooth as some of its peers.

500ml bottle from Liquor Max in Loveland, CO, around $8 if I remember correctly. Into a Stone IRS glass.
A: Pours nearly pitch black with a khaki colored head that bubbles up to almost an inch and fades away to a cap of bubbles. A few small spots of lacing left behind as it recedes. Nice looking beer.
S: Lots of roasted malt and coffee, with a fair amount of coffee and a lot of plums and black cherries as well. Really a nice mix of coffee and burnt with dark and sweet. Fair amount of chocolate and molasses as well.
T: Heavy roasted malts that definitely have the trademark Danish borderline ashtray profile that I wish more stouts had. Under the huge coffee and roasted malt is a nice brown sugar and molasses flavor with a decent amount of dark cherries as well. Lots of hoppy bitterness to go along with charred malts. There is a really nice resinous hoppy bitterness and earthy hop flavor that is heavily in the mix. Really a robust, impressive imperial stout.
M: A little thinner and more carbonated than I would like. Seems a bit watered down for a big stout. Finish is actually pretty dry which is odd. Not quite all there.
O: Really tasty, smells, and looks good, but the feel is all wrong, just way too thin and over attenuated. If this had more body to it it would easily be one of the better stouts I've had in some time. Still a very flavorful beer.

Growler shared by the Sergeant at a recent gathering. Beer was decent.
Beer is black and forms a thin tan head of small bubbles, some lacing, moderate to low carbonation, and low retention.
Aroma is sweet, a little ashy, some figs.
Beer is medium in body and quite sweet with a rather bitter finish from roast / ash. Good drinking all around but not my favorite imperial stout. I might have it again.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a Nonic, served at cellar temp.
Black as night with a thick milk chocolate head, minimal lacing.
Aroma: Molasses, vanilla, pecans with slight hints of Bourbon and cherries.
Mouthfeel: yes
Taste: Unlike a BDSA, sweetness is well controlled and is there only to counterbalance the other flavors. Alcohol is noticeable. So is a slight lactic sourness, some vanilla, some caramel and some smoke.
Notes: This is a very complex, balanced and tasty beer.

Growler from Capone's courtesy of Geist. Served in a Savor wine glass.
Pours near black with a tan head and some spotty lacing. Nose has a good amount of roast and a substantial amount of chocolate and coffee combined. Some very light smoke. Flavor has quite a bit of roast. Medium body. Pretty good.

Had a glass yesterday at Capones waiting for wings to go. Had never tried this beer before so decided to give it a run.
A - Very formidable in its small snifter serving. Was told that it needed to settle a bit when pouring and when it arrived was black as night with a pretty impressive head sitting on top. Considerable lacing on the glass.
S - Very rich smelling with dark roast, oak, a bit of smoke/char.
T - Did not enjoy this one to be honest. Just could never find its sweet spot. Very bitter from the dark roast and it seemed a bit strong on the oak and smoke as well. Did not ever experience any chocolate or coffee, simply could not get past the bitterness.
M - Pretty rich and thick but again the flavor profile just seemed off to me and hurt the overall experience.
O - Sorry, did not just do it for me. This is one I won't be returning to. One and done.

On draft at Capone's in Philadelphia.
The beer is black with a dense half inch of beige cap. The aroma brings dark chocolates, roast, coffee. Smells great. Really smooth and full of flavor. Wonderful coffee melds with gourmet chocolates. Sweetness is minimal, and the beer has a gentle, bitter finish. Alcohol content is an afterthought. Overall, this was outstanding.

I got this bottle in a trade with my beerbuddy Mark (Mar02x). Thanks Mark for this bottle. I believe he bought this at the Borefts festival in september.
Bottles best before august 2013. Batch 150.
Poured in my Struise glass the beer looks fantastic. Black as hell with a firm head, four fingers, nice bubbly. No lacing the foam glides in the glass.
Smell is with coffee of course and dark chocolate.
Taste stays a bit behind of the rest. If i compare it with other ones i have had this one is a bit too thin in the body. The alcohol is well hidden.

Big thanks to my brother for bringing this one out. Poured from 550ml into a Southern Tier pint glass...
A - Pours black with a one finger light brown head. Head retention is decent at best, and lacing is minimal...
S - Sweet chocolate, toffee, vanilla, and dark roasted malts. Smells pretty sweet...
T - Roasted malts and chocolate up front with some toffee, and coffee in the mix. Pick up a little hop presence in the finish with some lingering coffee. Abv is well hidden...
M - Rich and creamy. On the lighter side of being full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation...
O - Glad I got a chance to try this one. Not above and beyond for the style, but still pretty tasty...
Cheers...
