Stopped in here for the first time last week after living in the Twin Cities for the past 10 years. Where have I been all my life? This place is amazing! Great burgers, a fantastic selection of craft brews for reasonable prices - a breath of fresh air considering the Gnome and the Muddy Pig. This is my new go to spot if I'm in the Cities and looking for a night of good beer with friends. It was so good the first night I went, when I enjoyed a Bender and a Brown Sugga, that I went back the next day for one of their great bacon cheeseburgers with some fresh cut fries and a Furious. Which I followed with a Cynic and a Hopslam. Heaven. Thank you Stub and Herb's and BeerFly otherwise I probably would have never stopped in.

Since John took over here, Stubs is THE premier beer bar in all of MN. All domestic craft taps, unbelievable prices. $3.50 pints of almost everything on happy hour, which is all but a couple hours of the day. $13 dollar pitchers too. Enjoyed many a pitcher of DOAB there for that price. Bartenders and waitresses always quite helpfull. The burgers here are also top notch, and the fresh cut fries are the best I have ever enjoyed. I drive by places like the Happy Gnome and Muddy Pig to go to Stubs, why would you ever go anywhere else? The selection is unbeatable and the prices are insane. Nuff said.

This is a very fun place to visit. The atmosphere is what stands out to me. There is just a huge age span of people here and all of them are having a great time. The people here are very nice and accomodating as well. Heck, they even let us have a BeerAdvocate meeting here. We were allowed to bring in our own beer to swap and drink with each other. If that wasn't enough, they cracked a cask of Tea Bagged Furious for us. Fantastic. Selection is very good, especially for an on campus bar. It's really the only bar on campus that deviates from the normal BMC. Food is pretty good, although I am somewhat convinced that my pulled pork sandwich was actually chicken. In any event, the fries and cooked pretzels were delicious. Reasonably priced, especially for the area.

i have visited stub & herbs at various times and it has always been a great time. with 32 american craft beers on tap with more bottled. the selection is one of the best. alsways up on the newest releases and the many of the limited brews. now with an engine starting to see some of the speciality casks that are available. yes it's something of a sports bar, yes it's something of a college bar, yes it's something of a neighborhood bar and yes it's something of a beer geek bar. but some how it all pulls together. food is a basic burger and fry bar but nothing wrong with that when it's done right and it is. has a large patio area though not in using in sub zero january. and this will be expanded this year with the return if the university football team back to the university's new stadium so expect some fun stuff to happen. there is usually a monthly beer tasting also many other special events. the place shows it great heart in the bar manager jon who finally gets to show his stuff. i just see this getting better.

Do you like good beer? Do you like top shelf draft choices? Are you in Minneapolis? If you said yes to the above, you should be at Stub & Herb's.
I stopped here on a Monday between semesters at UM. Not too many people on such a night, maybe 8 people sitting along the centrally located bar. I guess about 20+ taps, all very good craft beer selections (with a strong focus on Northern Midwest breweries):
Surly Coffee Bender
Tyranena Imperial Hefeweizen
Tyranena Hop Whore
Tyranena Bitter Woman
Sierra Nevada Celebration
Some Summit beers
and other beers I can't remember (but all were good).
The bartender knew more about the beers than his youth would imply, and as luck would have it I was priveleged to drink with "JohnBierman", one of the people responsible for the make-over at Stub & Herb's (and the great selection of beers now available there). I got a great education on the MN beer scene, he's a knowledgable and friendly guy. If you're in Minneapolis there are many great choices for a beer, and this place at or near the top of the list.
Also, I heard Surly made Stub & Herb's the establishment for kicking off the launch of 2008 Darkness, with 4 kegs (1 of which still exists without a tap). Strong support for this awesome bar.

We hit Stubs right at 1130 right after they opened. I didn't catch the name of the bartender but he was a nice guy, friendly, and in his mid 20's. After ordering a beer, the liftbridge farmhouse, we watched a john wayne movie on the TV with the barman. The place is set up pretty nice with, by guessing, has about 30ish taps. There was nice great stuff on tap but I was going to be drinking all day so avoided any high alc stuff. People started to roll in about noon so our barman got caught mixing up drinks. After getting our bill, which wasn't immediate, but not late, we took off. Our barman gave us a hell of a deal on the beers and wished us well on our way. During our stay we chatted about other local bars to check out. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be back!

Stopped in yesterday for happy hour before heading to a concert and it was a shame I couldn't stay longer! I only had two beers while I was there but they were both excellent! I also got some food (Philly Steak and BBQ pork cooked with a Surly beer) which was awesome as well. I meet John (BA JohnBierman) who did a great job and ensured I will return the first chance I get!
I had my 12 year old brother with me and was happy to see that he was able to enjoy the place as well through the food, pinball, and Big Buck Hunter game.

Full of history and tradition as a pre-game bar, Stub's has been at the U for around 80 years. With the new change in ownership last year, a selection of 32 taps was introduced featuring all domestic micro-brews rotated frequently. The best part about this place is when people come in and ask for a BMC and find out they only have bottles.
The staff here is exceptional. Everybody does really know your name and treat you well as a regular. Jon does an awesome job bringing in great beers and allowing you to share your own. Plus, the happy hour is the best I've found in the Twins Cities for both selection and price. And the food isn't bad either (try the chicken tender melt).
What can I say, my favorite beer bar in America. Although I haven't drank in many places outside the midwest, it would be tough to match the service and selection here. In fact the only thing that could make this a better bar is the distribution.

In my opinion, this is the place for domestic micro beer. 32 taps, all of which are high quality. John has done a stellar job, and is a very gracious host. I don't think I have had a bad experience any time I go here, even when John isn't there though.
The bar has a great layout, which makes it very easy to get served, and the staff is generally well informed and pleasant. Happy hour is awesome here as well.
In all an amazing beer bar, in a great location (only a 5-10 minute drive from my house).
Only downside is it can be a little slow if the campus is dead, and packed if there is a U sports event going on. Not a huge problem though.

Gonna have to put in my 2 cents for good ol' Stubbies after going there for lunch today and finding a bunch of NEW local breweries on tap. I had the Saison (good) and the Fresh-Hop (not hoppy enough) from the Lift Bridge Brewing Co. from Stillwater, MN and saw something called the Mantorville Brewing Co from, you guessed it, Mantorville, MN, but didn't try their Amber. There were also a few new WI brewers and well, damn I forgot to photocopy the beer list ... y'all will just have to go there yourselves to see.
