The blue labelled Mandalay beer. Less readily available in Myanmar than than the green and red labelled Myanmar Beer, probably unavailable anywhere else in the world for the time being.
Comes regularly in a 640ml brown bottle with a blue label depicting the royal palace in Mandalay. 5% ABV.
Pale champagne yellow colour. Gets a reasonable head if you pour it vigorously, but it only sticks around as a ring of film. Reasonable lacing, good amount of carbonation for the style.
Nose surprisingly sweet with a little bit of spicy pepper. Hints of fruit. Surprisingly good.
Taste is also surprisingly clean and fresh. A little sweet at the start, but with a good clean hop bitterness in the middle. Finishes dry and very clean. Mouthfeel is excellent and crisp. Just what you want from this style of lager.
This is a surprisingly fresh and drinkable beer. It's certainly a good deal better than the other standard: the eponymous Myanmar Beer. And considering this generally turns up on the menu about 50% cheaper than Myanmar Beer, I'm surprised this one isn't the beer of choice around Myanmar.
No across the board "hell yeah!", but considering 64cl of this sets you back about 80c, this has to be the best value beer on the planet. Ridiculously good for the price, and definitely worth a look as a beer on its own merits.
