The colour is dark, dark brown-red. The head disappears quickly with a fizzing sound, leaving just a thing beige ring. Some lacing occurs.
The inviting and potent smell got notes of roasted nuts, strong wine, a touch of alcohol, bitter almonds, sweet cherries, fine dark bread and hints of butter, toffee, smoke and cream sauce.
The taste is milder than expected. Matured strong red wine, sweet cherry jam, bitter and sweet almonds and other nuts, raisins, plums. The aftertaste is less sweet with notes of fruit flavoured toffee, caramelized sugar, plum/cherry marmalade and a very mild dry touch of some hops.
The carbonation is medium with very small fresh bubbles. The liquid is very smooth.
This beer wasn't the explosion of bold flavours I had expected, but a riskily drinkable and balanced luxury lager. Not bad at all!
