A: A light golden ale that pours with lively carbonation in my standard pint glass. A small head nestles on top and is fed by everlasting carbonation. Crystal clear, brillant light gold color.

S: light aromas of grainy malt with a lttile background sweetness. Some floral hops in the background. Not terribly aromatic, but it fits the style.

T: light malt backbone with slight graininess. No corn flavors, which is a plus for me but would be ok for the style. The hops provide light bitterness with a touch of citrus. Simple flavors that meld well into an easy drinking beer.

M: light bodied. Strong carbonation. Crisp mouthfeel with a dry finish. Spot on for the style.

O: really a nice representation for the style. I really only have some homebrewed versions and spotted cow for comparison. This is right up there with spotted cow. This was great on a 95 degree day.

Canyon Cream Ale is a true summertime beer. This is not a big beer by any means. It is very light and crisp, with a hint of honey. The taste is magnificent, especially on those hot summer SoDak days. This is a Crow Peak regular; one of the few beers they can.

Shared this gem with the rb crew recently. The beer is clear and pale yellow with a small white head. The aroma brings malt, yeast, corn. The flavor follows suit. Corn and malt. Light bodied with lingering adjunct flavors. Eh...not a fan of this one at all.

Crow Peak Canyon Cream Ale
12 oz. can, no apparent freshness dating
$5 can at Blatt Beer & Table, Omaha, Nebraska

Appearance: Hazy yellow-gold w/ an almost greenish cast (is this old beer?). Limited bright white head of foam. Average lacing.

Smell: Limited aroma of sweet adjunct-like malt.

Taste: Sweetish, malty, little hop, slight fruit. Basic. Accessible. Finishes dry with a mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Light-medium body, soft moderate carbonation. Smooth, and almost creamy.

Overall: Interesting. Tasty. Very drinkable.

Review from notes.

A: Served in a pint glass, it was yellow in color with a foamy white head on top, with decent head retention and little bits of lacing.

S: Some honey, light fruit, and grainy malt.

T: More honey, some biscuity malt, and some light, sweet fruit.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: A decent beer, but nothing special.

12 ounce can. Decanted into a plastic, hotel water glass.
Appearance: Crystal clear. The color of golden straw. Looks like refreshment on a hot day.
Smell: Spicy hops and sweet corn. Neither aggressive. Maybe a little grassy.
Taste: Very light and sweet. Almost unbalanced on the sugary side. Oddly enough, it finishes quick and dry. Nothing much to speak of for the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Light and effervescent.
Overall: Pretty nice lawnmower beer. I’d probably prefer it to be a bit grainier and drier, but not bad nevertheless.

My first beer from South Dakota!

A: Small white head sits on a clear, blonde colored ale. Head retention is low and there's only a little amount of lacing.

S: Honey sweetness in the aroma, plus light malts and some fruitiness.

T: The taste follows the nose, with biscuit malts and fruitiness giving it an overall sweet flavor. Really no bitterness.

M: Body is light with a moderate amount of carbonation. Aftertaste is lightly sweet

O: A very light and refreshing beer. Fairly simple but a good cream ale for summertime.

Thanks to fLax for this one!

A buddy brought this back from his summer trip out to SD. The beer poured clear yellow with a thick head initially then it dissappeared and did not notice any lacing. The smell had some honey and mild citrus. Taste was ok, malt and a little citrus. Mouthfeel had a light body and mild carbonation. Worth a try...sure....would I get it again...no.

First off, this is not my style of beer, if you have some new to Craft Beer then this is what I would recommend. It is a smooth and light beer.
A-it looks light and yellow
S-better then a Bud Light, at least it has a smell
T-solid, light and smooth, a good beer for too pricey for me for what it is, however, it's local to the Black Hills and brewed with local Honey. If you like Cream Ales, this is a solid example but again, not my favorite type of beer.
M-not much here but that is the style so think Cream Ale
O-It's in a can, it's local to the Black Hills, put it beside a Bud or Lite and it will kick it's A**. Nuff said.

Thanks for the Can Crow Peak. Any craft beer in a can I will try. I get tired of taking glass to recycle. Aluminum is curb side and I can store more in the beer fridge and take to the pool. This is a good beer for the wife who steers clean of any IPA.

So, I'm a huge New Glarus Spotted Cow fan. Its a cream ale as well. This had a higher rating than Spotted Cow so I thought I was in for a treat. I walk up to the door and actually see Beer Advocate stickers on the door. I get excited. I saddle up to the bar and order the Canyon Cream Ale.

It looks light in color with average lacing and head retention. I've never much cared how a beer looked, foamed or laced. I'm in it for smell in taste because well...ultimately theyre all that matters.

Smell, it was pretty weak. I really had to try to pick out any discernable scents in the smell.

Taste, watered down or weak and faint. I picked out a few faint floral notes, hints of malt and pear skin. Hints. There was no defining character of a flavor.

Disappointed. I've tried the 11th hour IPA and Pile-o-dirt porter as well. Those two on tap and in can. I'm about to head out to school in Rapids City so I plan to return. If I have a disappointing outing in person again I plan to address this with the bar tender. Hell I might even bring some beer with me to prove a point.
