2007 Vintage.
Poured a orange color with good carbonation and a small white head. Nose is citrus hops, caramel. Taste is citrus, fruits but lighter fruits like apples, caramel, hop bite and light booze. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, hop forward, sharp booze feel, biscuit and caramel. Drinkability is good.

On tap at brewpub Dec. 2007. It pours a striking crystal clear deep copper with lasting ring of white foam. The aroma is malty sweet with a hint of dark fruit and decent amount of smokiness. The taste begins with thick chewy malt sweetness with a quick twang of dark fruity esters. The mild prunes, cherries and plums mix with an up welling of sweet caramel candy maltiness. It gets a very brief shot of breadiness that rolls over and fades into the finish. The hops hit about midway and try to overcome the chewy sweet caramelized maltiness with a sweet late addition pine hop and spice hop sweetness. The hops become only moderately bitter into the finish. None of the flavors are too bold or two bright but rather melded and smooth. The mild smokiness does just manage to show itself into the finish. For a barleywine it comes up short on hops for an American version and isn't fruity or malty or caramely enough for an English version. Its somewhere in between.

This barleywine is a very light, clear yellow color with little carbonation and minimal head. The aroma is very sweet - golden raisins and caramel. Taste is sweet and strong, with overripe apple, fig, and other sweet fruits dominating. The alcohol is evident. I found it undercarbonated and oversweet for a barleywine, but still and interesting and drinkable ale.

This barleywine has a peculiar straw copper color - it generally stuck me as light for a barleywine. There smell is overwhelmingly malty and wonderful; smells thick. The taste is huge and there is an abundance of cherry and bubblegum flavors. The high alcohol provides a warming effect and while the mouthfeel is smooth, this alcohol warming dominates the mouth. It is so bright for a barleywine and the caramelly malts are as rich as any beer I've had. Fantastic barleywine.
