Poured from the bottle into my DFH Snifter. Last of the 6 pack. Kind of sad to see this one leave.

A--Poured a deep orange color with lots of light shining through. There was a vibrant white head that was incredibly fluffy. Dissipated rather slowly, leaving a small head. Little bit of lacing throughout the beer.

S--Lot of oak on the nose. That was to be expected. Then comes some vanilla notes. Grapefruit and orange peel follow, and it finishes with a nice hop bitterness.

T--Wooden hops. The bitterness of the hops comes through, but it is masked by the heavy amount of wood on the tongue. The beer is a balanced flavor. Sweet flavors of citrus and vanilla complement the hops nicely.

M--Medium bodied. It is a thick mouthfeel, but not completely viscus. There is no carbonation to speak of. The aftertaste is a very pleasant hop flavor.

O--This is a really good IPA. I cannot detect the 7.10% at all. I could see myself drinking several of these before the alcohol actually caught up to me. There is, however, a bit too much wood flavor for me. It overpowers the hops, which I never enjoy.

12 oz bottle. bottled on July 17, 2012. served into a nonic pint.

A: a reddish hue. hazy, but nothing crazy. head is slightly off-white. retention I great. lacing I spotted.

S: very woody. a lot of cedar. with the hops, smells similar to a cupcake.

T: very sweet, slightly vanilla. a little woody. a serious oak/tannin flavor that is prevalent but not overbearing. the oak plays nicely with the amount of hops that are behind this brew.

M: average carb on a medium/full body.

D: good, but similar to most things of the style, not a brew that should be oak aged. not sure how much time affected this (being about 8 months old...), perhaps the hops would have been more in the forefront and the oak would be a side-note...? who knows. good, but not great is my conclusion.
