Bottle was part of a Great Divide Variety Pack.

Enjoyed in a DFH Pint Glass

A - Pours a deep, golden honey color. A one finger, dense beige colored head on the initial pour. It fades after a few minutes to a thin layer of foam. Lots of sticky lacing left on the side of the glass.

S - A very pleasant earthy-type aroma. A smell of citrus and caramel is also present.

T - A very good IPA. The oak aging imparts a sort of woody or eathy-type taste to the beer. The normal IPA flavors are also there with citrus and a nice hoppiness. A caramel sweetness is also present. The alcohol is not noticeable in the beginning but does peak through as the beers warms up.

M - A medium consistentcy. Decently carbonated. Leaves a nice bitter aftertaste after each sip.

O - A top-notch beer. I love IPAs and this beer with it's oak aging adds another layer of flavors that works really well. One of the best I've had from Great Divide. Nice job, Great Divide! Recommended.

12 oz bottle. bottled on July 17, 2012. served into a nonic pint.

A: a reddish hue. hazy, but nothing crazy. head is slightly off-white. retention I great. lacing I spotted.

S: very woody. a lot of cedar. with the hops, smells similar to a cupcake.

T: very sweet, slightly vanilla. a little woody. a serious oak/tannin flavor that is prevalent but not overbearing. the oak plays nicely with the amount of hops that are behind this brew.

M: average carb on a medium/full body.

D: good, but similar to most things of the style, not a brew that should be oak aged. not sure how much time affected this (being about 8 months old...), perhaps the hops would have been more in the forefront and the oak would be a side-note...? who knows. good, but not great is my conclusion.
