Lightly hazy amber with orange highlights, tan frothy head with good retention. Oak and musty earthy citrus. Vanilla and earthy pine and citrus with light sweetness and a moderate hop ending. A dry woody finish and light hop linger. A relatively light feel and a little rough.

Good aroma and robust flavor. The wood is not overdone but adds a nice element to a pretty earthy profile. It’s a little more of a balanced IPA and the hop linger you get is occasionally unpleasant but overall a good combination of taste.

12 oz bottle. bottled on July 17, 2012. served into a nonic pint.

A: a reddish hue. hazy, but nothing crazy. head is slightly off-white. retention I great. lacing I spotted.

S: very woody. a lot of cedar. with the hops, smells similar to a cupcake.

T: very sweet, slightly vanilla. a little woody. a serious oak/tannin flavor that is prevalent but not overbearing. the oak plays nicely with the amount of hops that are behind this brew.

M: average carb on a medium/full body.

D: good, but similar to most things of the style, not a brew that should be oak aged. not sure how much time affected this (being about 8 months old...), perhaps the hops would have been more in the forefront and the oak would be a side-note...? who knows. good, but not great is my conclusion.
