Presentation: Poured into a tulip glass from a 12 oz brown with BOTTLED ON: SEP 10 2009, stamped on the label.
A: Dark chocolate brown, nearly black with a nice thick tan head and large bubbly lacing. Very different.
S: Hints of coffee, caramel and chocolate.
T&M: Rich and smooth with a full bodied malty palate. Lots of robust coffee and dark chocolate flavor. Mild bitterness from the hops.
Nice porter. Almost like a stout, but very good.

Review from 5/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Dark red brown, one finger tan head. Faint aroma of caramel and roasted malt. Slightly bitter, light smoky malt and very distinct hay. I don't taste coffee or chocolate notes that are typical for an American porter. Thin bodied. A satisfactory kind of funky porter, but I won't need to visit again.

Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into snifter. The bottle is 2-3 years old and cellared the entire time. Kind of a mistake cellaring, but lets see what happened.
Beer pours rich brown color with creamy tan head of 3 cm foaming up and fading very gradually to a sturdy surface layer. Tight lattice as it recedes to the surface.
Aroma is some soft chocolate malt and caramel, with a bit of brown sugar mixed in the background. I dont get any hop qualities to speak on the nose and the booze isnt present either.
First sip reveals a flavor profile similar to the nose advertises. I get some roasted malt and milk chocolate with a bit of brown sugar sweetness on each swallow. Finish is roasted malt that lingers a bit and is fairly appealing after each mouthful.
The beer is easy to drink and very smooth textured. Gentle rolling carbonation aids the drinkability even more helping this beer to go down the gullet very easily and enjoyably. A nice american porter, I admit to being a bit thrown off by the words robust porter on the label, as it is not a big beer, but I still am enjoying this one and would pick up more of it if shopping for an easy drinking malty brew.
