Zierholz is pretty damn good. We headed out to Fyshwick for lunch today and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and price.
The room itself is a little bit industrial with painted concrete floors but the wooden bar and furnishings and the chalkboard menus add a bit of feel to the place.
The quality of the beer is great as is the food. They have all 7 regular beers on tap as well as a seasonal and a cider. The mostly local wine list is good and is supplemented but a selection of local, artisan schnapps. While the beers are served a bit colder that I think is ideal they are fresh and tasty with no line problems.
The food is good with a mix of German staples like weisswurst and kransky with sourkraut and mashed potatoes as well as modern Australia pub style fare like a delicious pork belly, pork loin cutlet and salt and pepper squid. The food is well made even if our quid was a little soggy and the mash is a little less creamy that I like. The sausages were decent and the pork belly was excellent.
Service was good with our waitress being competent and friendly enough. The bar tender was a delight and was happy to chat as well as being quite knowledgeable.
On the whole Zierholz is worth the occasional trip, especially if you are already going to be in Fyshwick. The food is good value (at about $16 for a main) and the beers are good value too (at $6.90 a pint or an amazing $5 a pint for the seasonal beer). It's well worth a visit.

A small micro-brewpub hidden in a industrial area of Fyshwick. This is not a flashy place but quite comfortable. They have 7 beers on tap, primarily Greman style beers with a couple of Engish beers to choose from. Service was friendly and prompt. They do have a Pub menu with is a mix of German and Australian cuisine. The beers are not overwhelming but enjoyable for what they are. If you ever have some spare time in Canberra, check it out.
