Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with a blurb about the beer on the back label ... the "enjoy with the first four months of date" is cleary notched.

Appearance: Reddish brown in colour with a thin off-white lace.

Smell: Mellow toasted/roasted malt giving off a nut like nose.

Taste: Light on the carbonation with a medium build, mouthful of toasted malt with hints of carob and chichory. Hops are subdued and only show minimal bitterness. Finish is mostly toasted malt to give a nutty aftertaste with a hint of maple syrup also.

Notes: No surprises, easy to drink though lackluster compared to other brown ales.

Best by March 25th, 2013 (A bit over a month old). Poured into Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass.

Appearance: A nice, ruby brown color with a few particles floating around in there. A finger worth of head that doesn't last long, leaving minimal lacing.

Smell: Smells just like the name describes -- maple nut brown. Maple syrup is definitely in the nose, with nutty aromas, and the dark malts blend with it all nicely. The smell on this beer is solid.

Taste/feel: On the front, the maple sweetness comes through. Near the end it fades away, and the aftertaste is a somewhat nutty, sweet, malt flavor. It's not an exceptional beer, but it's still better than some seem to be giving it credit for. The first few sips gave me an iron-like aftertaste, but it has since gone away. The feel is pretty smooth with light-ish carbonation, making this an easy beer to drink quite a bit of.

Surprised by this beer, to be honest. It's not FANTASTIC, but it's a solid beer from a brewery I hadn't heard of before buying the bottle. It's a slightly above average nut brown ale with some characteristics of maple syrup. If that's your bag, definitely try it out. And considering I'm having this beer a month past its drink-by date, it could only (at least) be slightly better fresh. At a measly 20 IBUs, this could be a great beer for somebody that doesn't like to drink anything other than Bud Light because they think it all just tastes "bitter."
