Beachwood BBQ has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Orange County. The beer selection is fantastic, always rotating and impressive. The past few times I've been there they have had Blind Pig, Pliny, Temptation and Ruination. Seems that they bring out their big guns on the weekends. And with the hopcam online, you always can check ahead to make sure they have something you like. I like that it is somewhere I can go to get delicious food and always have a different beer to try. The staff was very helpful with pointing out beers of certain styles that others at my table might like. And the food - just wow. I love how they smoke their meats sauceless and leave it up to you to do it yourself. So many plates of BBQ end up tasting like a lump of bbq sauce flavored meat but not here. The appetizers I've tried (the mac & cheese and mussles) have been plenty for a table of four to share, as well as the desserts.
Parking isn't too bad - there have always been spots open in back even on a busy Saturday night. Longest I've waited for a table is about 45 minutes, but with the selection of beer at the bar I had no problem standing around waiting.

Stopped in on a Wednesday night about 5:30 on my way from Thousand Oaks to San Diego. Easy to find but limited parking options. There was a short wait for a table, 5 minutes. There were 16 to 20+ beers to choose from, all exceptional quality, most hard to find. There was a nitro tap, but I'm not sure anything was on cask. The two I finally decided on were very fresh. The beer must rotate on a frequent basis, as two of the selections were replaced during the two hours I was there. The server was above average, we had no wait for beer or food order. Very good beer knowledge, too. My only beef would be the chinchy sample I got when I asked for a sample (slightly more than 1 oz of foam). I was there with three other colleagues, so I was able to sample a few appetizers along with my entree. All items were well above average. Fried pickles were thick cut and had the perfect amount of breading. Mussels came in a wonderful broth that could have been served by itself with bread. The BBQ (I had ribs and chicken) were both very well done. Ribs were a bit dry, but had a great flavor. Chicken was moist and smoked perfectly. The BBQ would have stood up against most of what I can get in Austin.
I will definitely consider returning here the next time I'm in town. For beer, food, or both.

I have been here with my wife several times. The servers, whether at the bar or at the tables, were always knowledgeable and friendly. I suggest you sit at the bar, if possible, since it is the easiest place to see the tap list and watch the action. At the bar you will probably be surrounded by knowledgeable patrons who will likely strike up a conversation about beer. Beers are served in a wide variety of glasses, matched to the beer style. Most beers are served in pints, with doubles served in various 12 oz glasses. You can order the pint beers in 12 oz glasses, if you want to try more beer and be able to walk out. All glassware is rinsed in cool water before being filled. Gabe's tap system ensures that the kegs are full, properly chilled and at the correct pressure all of the time. If you are there for a while they will serve you water without even asking. The Hop Cam allows you to preview the selection before you arrive. It is impossible to list the beers that I have had there and it isn't important, because they will be pouring something different when you go.
The food is fantastic. They serve BBQ chicken, pork and beef that has been dry rubbed and smoked. There is hot and medium sauce, flavored vinegar and craft mustard available on your table for additional flavor. The hamburger is made from smoked brisket that is then ground and fire grilled. It is by far the best burger I have had.
I would go there if they didn't serve food or if they didn't serve beer. It is that good.

Beachwood BBQ has been my favorite restaurant/bar for a few years now. I've ordered nearly everything on the menu and get a new world class beer every time I'm in. Gabe, the owner is always around and is friendly and helpful, as are all the servers and the bartender. Most of the servers are also very knowledgeable about the beers available and have usually tried most of what's available (with how quickly beers go at this place it'd be impossible for them to try everything). If I can't decide what to get I usually ask for a recommendation, and it's almost always spot on, or a pleasant surprise. As far as the food goes I'd say Beachwood has the best BBQ (in California, dont have a hissy fit Southerners). A lot of people might raise criticism that there's often a pretty decent wait to get in, but it's always worth the wait and I'm not normally a patient man. 20+microbrews on tap, ever changing menu full of delicious meats and inspired appetizers (Mini Lamb Corndogs w/ Habanero-Berry Catsup, Baked Mac and Cheese, Smothered Steak Fries), with a friendly atmosphere and a happy hour menu. What more could you ask for?

Hands down, the best beer bar i have ever been to. Always has a unique selection of rare and/or uncommon beers. Whether you want an IPA, Belgian, Stout, or Barley Wine, they have something that you will like.. Bartenders/owner are very knowledgeable and definitely know what they're doing. The food is far above "bar food" but still works great if you're sitting at the bar.
Also, they have a webcam on their website that shows the current selection of on-tap/cask beers so you can make a special trip down there if there's something that you want.

I'd love to begin this review by thanking all the people who responded to my thread about where to go in Cali on vacation. Beachwood was a popular answer so our group went there for lunch after our time down at Huntington Beach. I made the trip up US 1 even more interesting by riding bitch on my girlfriend's cousin's Harley.
Once we arrived at the little strip mall on the road which heading straight to the sea, we went inside the small rectangle place. The atmosphere was actually pretty lame to be completely honest. Pastel green paint covered the walls and there wasn't much of anything to look at. Just inside the entrance you had 3 choices: A bar to the right, a straight hall which headed straight to the bathrooms and back employee area, or lastly, a small dining area to the left divided from everything else by a wall.
The three different decor things going on that were actually good were all placed poorly. The hall leading to the bathroom was lined by tap handles almost horizontally screwed into the walls on either side creating what seemed like a little archway. In the same hall on the right-hand side wall was a framed hop bag from Sierra Nevada. Lastly, one of the two unmarked bathrooms contained a hand-painted picture of a personified fork chasing a pig in hot-rod cars. "Where the fork meets the pork" was the tag-line. Very nicely done.
The beer selection was very nice with a great variety of different offerings listed on chalk-board squares mounted to the wall behind the bar as well as in the dining area. 19 different beers with vast variations in style was awesome to see. Prices on the beers weren't bad either. Specifically, my first pint was Pliny the Elder for $6.
While Beachwood BBQ is a great beer bar the food was by far the pinnacle of this place! A little bit on the pricey size for the serving size, but well worth it's bold, utterly fantastic flavor. I think three of the five of us all got something different. I ordered up the Pulled Pork, "North Carolina style, dipped in our red wine vinegar BBQ sauce & served on a pretzel bun topped with coleslaw". It was sinfully good. Once we all started eating, moans of pleasure came from every mouth at the table.
The other people I was with didn't have a clue what to order for beer so they turned to me and I did the deciding for them but, when another table came in clueless, the waitress that also served us seemed to know just enough to get her by; minimal education to serve decently but no passion in her delivery. The same thing occurred with her serving. She didn't seem to want to be there at ALL.
Besides the almost complete lack of decor and average service, Beachwood BBQ stood out as a place to everyone at the table so much so that the consensus was, "we HAVE to come back. This will be a must-stop on any vacation" which is completely fine with me!

Although biased, being a native Seal Beach er, this place is a GODSEND. I've been around the world, done the Huyghe Brewery, the Guinness' - the Heinekens - the Pacifico beer tours but the Beachwood BBQ is a gem. If you wanted a good beer in Orange County you really had to go down to Newport or Huntington or way up to Long Beach. BUT NO MORE!
Beachwood - in my opinion - brought real beer culture to Orange County. I cannot rave enough about this place. Go, check it out for yourself, its worth the drive down (although keep in mind the beers are at 10% + each, so you're not driving back). And make sure to ask for a sample of the constantly changing beer list. Literally the draft beers change daily, with 65 specialty beer bottles, and a constantly changing draft menu of 24 + you could go here daily for the rest of you life and have something new each and every time. BEACHWOOD is not a beer bar but a REVOLUTION!
OH AND ORDER THE BBQ NACHOS!...ORGASMIC...'nough said.

amazingly friendly! incredible food! great beer!
i was in town on business for a few days and stopped by beachwood two of those days. having only read reviews i was really excited, and boy, should i have been! this place is righteous! if you're going to sit at the bar what you're getting is basically a very small local bar feeling that is super laid back with knowledgeable service from really nice people. plus, the food is killer! their happy hour is flat out awesome, i would recommend the brisket sandwich which was only 5 bones!!
brisket sandwich - out of this world!!
pulled pork sandwich - awesome, but not as good as the brisket.
BBQ pulled chicken nachos - better than the pulled pork, still not as good as the brisket.
their beer list is cool too as it's got a bit of variation from the typical southern california bars. they definitely try hard to showcase different styles as much as they can. when i was there i got to try a couple italian beers that i had never even heard of!
every day i struck up conversations with strangers and throughly enjoyed myself. if i'm ever around seal beach i guarantee i'll stop back in here!

This place is a real gem and perhaps not quite what you expect. 20 taps which "yesterday" was a lot...."today" its good but almost average for a beer place. The difference here is that what's on tap is very special and always changing. We went during the Italian Festival which was not only unique but fantastic! (Going on May 6-9, 2010). Fantastic selection of special beers and you can check the website for their ever changing list.
The real difference in going to Beachwood vs other places is that the food at Beachwood is absolutely extraordinary. The BBQ is very good; the rest of the food is fantastic! Best wings I've had; blue cheese grits are amazing; a mushroom stew that bowls you over; and it goes on an on. Super creative and prepared perfectly. Great place.

Went here last week for my first time. What a cool place. And amazing BBQ. It's mostly Carolina BBQ so kinda spicy at times but man is it super tasty. We all got different items on the menu and I tried a bite of each and everything was awesome. I got the Briscit Sandwich and it was pretty spicy but very tasty. Make sure you get some deep fried pickles and some fried green tomatos. Very tasty.
The beer was great. About 20 taps or so of what seems to be constantly roatating and tasty craft brews you won't find at other places. Each beer is carbed perfectly individually according to style.
Overall good service. Awesome place I wish was closer to home so I could go more often. But it's about an hour and 15 min away and I really have no other reason to go to seal beach so I probably won't be going very often.
