Encouraged to drop in here on way to Anaheim after disastrous strike-out at Urge the previous day. The website posting of the beer list the previous day had indicated the presence of Russian River, but to my horror it was already off by the time I arrived around 12 PM Sunday. A sage local indicated that the good stuff does not stay around long.
Even at that relatively early hour the place was quite full and I was able to snag a single spot at the bar. It has a small capacity so I hate to think what it would be like of a Saturday evening. I would guess that most of the customers at that time were there for the food, and just maybe a few were there for the excellent selection (Russian River's absence notwithstanding). When you hear things like, "What do you have that's like a Blue Moon?", you know you are not at Toronado.
To me the barmaid was polite if not overly attentive, for she was spending much quality time chatting with my neighbour who was not shying of letting people know how much he spent on sushi. That said, she insisted I not pay for the beer she gave me in error. That was sporting. The selection is quite diverse; the prices are reasonable; I would return.

The things I miss most about living in Seal Beach. The beach and Beachwood BBQ. Seriously didn't realize how good I had it until I left. This THE best beer drinking establishments I have ever been to. Atmosphere is nice. Right down the street from the beach. Usually pretty crowded especially if it is a special night so get there early although there is plenty to do and see while waiting for a table or you can grab a beer. THe food is incredible. The pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries were my go to but there are many great dishes and appetizers that can be ordered. The tap list is always changing. A good selection of beer can always be found and there is something for everyone. Service was always high end, everyone was extremely knowledgable and friendly. I frequented this place weekly for the year I lived there and try to make it down when I can now. Can't wait to try out the newer bigger location in Long beach when it opens.

I hate to start a beer review with a food review but wholly cow, you gotta try these ribs. The food at Beachwood is amazing - good enough to take my beer fearing friends and I never get a complaint, unless we have to wait for a table.
Now the beer. The owner, Gabe, keeps a great tap list and some top tier bottles too. Check out his HopCam on his website to see what's on tap. You won't be disappointed. He has some pretty eclectic beers mixed in with some solid local choices. Reliably amazing.
The crowd is sophisticated but not snobby and leaps and bounds ahead of anything else is Seal Beach or anywhere else in OC.
Don't walk, run to Beachwood.

Stopped in here after the bruery party for the tasting. What an awesome place.
First off, this place is small, and our group was quite large. We squeezed our way in and grabbed the last few seats at the table. The place was packed with tons of local BA's there for the tasting and others just looking to eat and drink that this awesome spot. The quality was absolutely top notch. From the amazing food to the excellent beer selection. All the beers were served in the correct glassware and nothing in the place felt cheep.
The service could not have been better. Like I said our group was quite large and they didn't mind at all. Our server Jackie was great and she really knew her stuff. The owner, Gabe, came around quite a bit and was a really cool guy. He even opened a few bottles for all of us to try. The only thing better than the service was the food, which was just awesome. I got the triple meet sampler made up of ribs, smoked chicken, and brisket with sweet potato fries and blue cheese grits. I could only eat half of it because there was just so much food. I ate the rest the next day and it was just as good as the night before. I just wish I could have tried even more because I spied quite a few things on the menu I would have liked to try. Prices were very good. My huge meal was only $20 and the beers were just as reasonable.
Now, on to the beer. So many tasty offerings, so little time. I really wanted to try the Midnight Sun panty peeler but it kicked right when we walked in the door, oh well, I had to settle for the Stone double dry hopped sublimely self-righteous...yeah poor me. After that I was going to go with the cask ruination with simcoe but they put a keg of Moylan's apple brandy barrel aged double kilt lifter on, yeah I know so many words, and I just had to get it. One of the best tap lists I have seen in some time.
Overall one of my favorite stops on my trip to cali. I can't wait to see how the new brewpub location turns out. If it is anything like this place I am sure it will be one of the best.

Stopped in here after the Bruery RS Party with a huge number of local BAs on-site for our post-party. What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said!? This place was just plain awesome... The beer selection, stellar. The food, great. The service, great. I'm guessing either the manager or owner was in attendance and definitely made all of us feel very welcome and got us anything we needed while there. He also shared a few brews with us while we were hanging around. With me being from South Carolina I got quizzed on my preference of BBQ while I was there. Had an awesome time while I was there and got to meet quite a few BAs while I was there and could even see the Pacific from just outside the restaurant. Not much wrong going on here. I WILL be going back here even if I have to drive for a bit to do so. I suggest you do too.

The Beachwood BBQ is my favorite OC haunt. I've been here several times over the past two years and I'm always impressed with the incredibly unique selection of draught and cask offerings. Tonight is no exception as I happen upon the BBQ's kickoff of their 2nd annual Winter Beer Week. There are few choices under 7% ABV for this event, so I started with the Bruery's Lookal Red, follow it w/ J.W. Lee's Harvest Ale (on cask), and finish w/ Port Brewing's Road Helles Lager.
At the bar, the clientele always seems friendly, the staff is quick and always fully fluent on all the beers being poured and the food is very good. I've been to many a beer bar in many towns across the States, but this is the only one I consider an essential stop, every time I come to town.

Stopped by on a recent trip to Long Beach based on the glowing rec's here on BA - have to say, this is one of my favorite places in the world to drink and eat.
The place is tiny, but I arrived on the early side (during Happy Hour - $1 off beers and special food menu) and was able to grab a seat at the bar. Dig the vibe of the place.
Tight, well-though out selection of local, national and int'l beers. Had my 1st 2 glasses of Pliny the Elder and was not disappointed. At the suggestion of a local tried an Inland Empire Porter which was quite tasty too.
Authentic BBQ is served here. I can be a bit of a priss about my 'cue, and this place was spot on. My pulled pork sammich with coleslaw on pretzel bread was delicious.
First server in the evening was extremely prompt and friendly - second not so much.
I am jealous. I want to move to the area so I can frequent this place. A must-stop for BA's in the area.

I absolutely love this place. It's a small restaurant in a very laid back beach city in North OC that serves exceptional beers and exceptional food. This combo is very rare to find, but when you do find it, patronize the hell out of the place. The service has always been excellent and everyone, from the wait staff to the owner/chef, are all just very nice people who love beer and food. Only downfall is that the wait can sometimes be a pain because of its size and popularity, but its a good pain because you'll likely be sipping on some good beer.

Not sure what else I can say that hasn't already been said, but I'll add to the chorus. Beachwood has such an awesome tap list and since I work pretty close, I can check their website to see what they are pouring. And the web cam is always up to date so it is never a wasted trip if I am going there for something specific.
Service is excellent. The bartenders are always appropriately chatty and have at least tried a lot of the beers. Since the list changes so frequently, that is pretty amazing. Regardless, they all seem to know something about most of the beers and always seem to have a computer up with BA pulled up ready to go.
I've only ordered food once. I got the pulled pork sandwich with fried pickles. The sandwich was good but I must admit I need to get used to not smothering my food with bbq sauce. They serve it dry and recommend keeping it that way, but there are four different sauces there for you if you want it. The fried pickles were to die for, especially with their mustard bbq sauce.
Overall Beachwood is amazing. Amazing tap list. Great service. Good food. What more can you ask for?

While Beachwood isn't the largest restaurant/bar, it feels spacious given the layout of the tables and the location of the bar area.
Hands down, I have to say this place has some of the most attentive waitstaff, which of course equates to excellent service. Seriously, I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to place an order and throughout the meal I was checked on frequently to make sure everything was copacetic. However I also arrived shortly after opening on Sunday afternoon, so I am not sure if this is the norm.
Secondly, the variety of the tap list, and the constant rotation of taps, are primary reasons this establishment is rated as highly as it is! No overrated hype here... All the beers I had were served in appropriate glassware, with an appropriate amount of head, and were very fresh. Affordable prices...excellent.
Since I can only fairly speak for the food I actually consumed, I thought it was portioned perfectly and enjoyable, yet nothing mind blowing. I had the two-meat combo plate with brisket and pulled pork, with both meats being on the drier side than I would have preferred.
Beachwood BBQ is definitely worth the commute, and makes a great place to meet up with friends for a few drinks and some good eats. I will most definitely be coming back here in the future.
