Cloudy/hazy light brown color with a tan or apricot hue and some biege head and too dificult to see the action.

Banana, hint of caramel, and some grain malt aroma.

Even background notes of banana, bubblegum, and vanilla with lots of toasted grain, wheat, and barley malt flavors.

Light bodied, rich slightly buttery feel, with lively soft carbonation.

This is a toasty grain session beer brewed in craft form, excellent.

Appearance: Hazy, dark yellow; like carrot juice! One finger head.

Aroma: Citrus, grass, fresh but with some spicy notes, perhaps cardamom?

Taste: Mild, citrus and herbs. Quite malty for its style.

Mouthfeel: Moderate carbonation, light bodied.

Overall: Not mind blowing, but decent enough with some originality as well.

Had the Dunkelweizen at the G & B in Bolingbrook, IL last evening. The color was a nice deep amber perhaps brown with off-white head that laced slightly. The aroma was sweet with hints of malt. The taste was a very good balance of grain, hops and malt. The was a slight sweetness that made the beer smooth to drink and the beer came off the pallet clean. Overall not to bad...the mouthfeel was smooth and easy. good session beer.

Poured a dark, copper, amber color with large foamy beige head. Smells of yeast, malts, spice and some kind of fruit. Tasted of wheat, yeast, roasted malts and a creamy sweetness... surprisingly good and refreshing with a great aftertaste. What a pleasant brew!

Had this one on tap at the restaurant in Virginia Beach, VA
(Review is from notes)

A- Cloudy brownish amber

S- Caramel and clove smell, yeasty but can't get past the cloves

T- cloves, touch of banana with a flicker of fruitiness in the finish. Its a dark version of their Hefeweisen.

M- Smooth, carbonated and frothy

D- This clove thing is just not what I am looking for in a beer. Not appealing to me.

This is my favorite of the Gordon Biersch beers. It pours kind of an ugly muddy brown color with a big off white head. The aroma is a little bready and herbal, with spices and berries. The flavor is strong with banana, clove, spice, herbal tea, and berries. A bit clunky, like most of GB beers, but tasty and not bad.

On tap at the brewpub in DC on 09.14.2009. Poured a slightly hazy auburn brown with a good deal of off-white head. The smell was characteristic of the style with some dark malts and fruits being slightly overcome by the yeastiness of the style. The taste was much the same, and the brew itself was crisp with a nice hint of carbonation and not much alcohol presence. Definite drinkability as well.

Prost-X. This stuff is goood! Thoght I was back in Bavaria but on steroids, SWEET!
Foggy nut type brown with a great white head with staying power.
Smell has lots of little side notes but pretty much strait-up weizen- NICE!
Taste is outstanding somewhat bready with all the little sweetness notes nice and malty with a touch of hoppiness-very cool!
Mouth was what you think kinda thick and almost chewy but carbonation keeps it under control in a very good way.
Drnk was GREAT very refreshing and not as heavy as I expected. Very Well Crafted Brew!

When most brewers are popping out light and fluffy spring seasonals Gordon Biersch jukes toward the dark side. An unfiltered dark wheat beer to be exact. Poured in traditional Weizen glasses to help swirl the carbonation around, which not only helps create a massive crowning head, but pushes some of the aromatics out. Head retention is quite stellar and the color lands dark brown and very cloudy. Bready wheat malt, dusty clove and slightly green banana in the nose. Incredible smoothness has a lot of depth in the medium body. Layered maltiness shows some breadiness, caramel and a quick twang from the wheat. A little lemony with some herbal phenolics from the yeast. Hints of green banana, apple skin and mango hit around the center. Malty, but on the dry side, with some chalky yeast in the finish.

Overall, this is a great brew. The biggest reason is that it doesn't lean toward clove and banana too much and there are no harsh phenols, which some brewers seem to not be able to tame. Kudos to Gordon Biersch, we dig this beer a lot.

Had this at the San Francisco airport on 2009-04-30

A - Pecan brown with a 1-finger, tan head

S - Bread, clove, citrus and a little bubblegum

T - Remarkable. Smells are mirroed in the taste with the classic banana, clove, and sourdough bread. Just a wisp of hops. Compares very favorably with a Franziskaner Dunkelweizen although it is a short step below a Weihenstephaner Dunkelweizen.

M - Medium body and medium carbonation

D - This one surprised me. I didn't expect to get an American Dunkelweizen in an airport that compared so favorably to the brews from Munich.
