First had: on cask at Rock Bottom, King of Prussia, PA
Poured from a hand pump into a tall mug, a cloudy golden yellow with a big fluffy white head, moderate carbonation, and nice healthy lacing. Clean pale malts in the aroma, overtaken by crisp citrusy hops; lemony. More of those crisp hops in the taste, lemony, but pretty bitter actually, and somewhat metallic. Definitely getting a little bit of pineapple too. Not overly hoppy, but a little watered down in that sense. But still a decent brew, with a light-medium mouthfeel. Drinkable, but perhaps one mug is good enough.

Drank at the bar on 2-15-11. Reviewed from notes. This one was so fresh it wasn't even on the board yet.
This new IPA is a sunny golden color with a bright white head, heavy haze and moderate carbonation. This looks really summery and tasty and I'm always excited for a brand new hoppy offering.
Aroma is subtle, with very little of the bitter bite I expect from the style. This focuses more on citrus fruit, with pineapple, orange and melon sharing the limelight.
Taste is very refreshing with the hop bite in the conclusion providing a lively tingle on the tongue. The hop kick is preceded by orange and pineapple notes, which never overpower or become cloying. A certain dryness sets in on the palate as the beer warm. This tastes really fresh and the variance of flavors is nicely balanced.
Mouthfeel packs a delightful tingle that hits the back of the tongue and the sweet fruit flavors feel authentic as they roll over your taste buds.
Although this may not be powerful enough for the most jaded hophead, it's a nice, easy drinking IPA that would hit the spot on a warm Summer's day.

On tap @ Rock Bottom KOP on 3/4/11. Served in an imperial pint glass.
Pours a slightly hazed golden copper, with a thin covering of creamy bright-white head. These retains with some creamy richness around the edges that flares up to nearly a full finger when swirled, throwing a frothy cascade of lacing up onto the sides of the glass. The aroma smells of spice and bitter grapefruit, which is funneled up the nostrils with a rich floral and herbal feel. Juicy tropical fruit character and sweet malt combine to provide a balancing force to the edges of the nose.
The taste has a strong bite to it of grapefruit and pine, which is balanced by a sweet wave of tropical fruit flavors, sweet caramel, and some slightly toasted bready grains across the back. Some tart lemon really starts to come out as this warms. The fruit and malt really drenches the back of the throat here with a warm ripe stickiness but the more aggressive aspects of the hops stay at the forefront, as resins, spice, and bitter rind all linger hard in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a firm creamy sharpness that expands out into the mouth. There is some underlying slickness present but this mostly stays lively and crisp on the palate. Alcohol is well hid, and that's a good thing, as the sharpness and bitterness levels already give this a lot of assertiveness. Any sense of that ABV might have pushed this over the edge.
Wow, the Chinook hops are very aggressive here; there is no way around that, but this stayed just balanced enough to keep this mostly approachable and drinkable. If you like them bitter, you're probably going to like this. I'm really digging these secondary IPAs that they've been putting here recently. This is another good one.
