Fork is another great little gastropub in the Lincoln Square area. I arrived here early on evening (~4:55pm on a Friday) before their dinner service started, and I sat at the bar. The bartender was thrilled to help a beer newb like myself. I was able to taste many samples from what was on tap. They had a few stouts, which was great for me. Their bottle selection is decent as well.
It's got a cozy feel to it, with 'couch' type seating near the exposed brick walls and tables throughout. Food was decent enough, but for the cost of the food I was hoping for better. While I preferred the food while this was Fiddlehead, Fork seems more of beer-lovers place now. Don't miss it if you are in the area.

on the northwest corner of lincoln and wislon, i'm surprised i only just noticed this place after my friend found out they had a case of '11 kbs. dark modern decor and medium sized place for the lincoln square area. tap and bottle choices were very good and the beer menu looked well thought-out. the bartender chris, who also is in charge of the beer, was super cool and knowledgable. he let my friend have 3 kbs on prior visit while we had a total of 3 between us the time i went. went on a late friday night and the place was not crowded at all. lots of good 3 floyds stuff, they even had krunk monk on-tap, which i thought was brewpub only. the spanish charcuterie plate my friend ordered looked and smelled good, if a bit smallish. nice presentation too. the bartender was even nice enough to give me a founders snifter glass, which i've wanted for some time. he also updates the beer menu on beermenus.com daily per my friend. i will definitely be back to further explore the beers here.

Fiddlehead is the place that looks and acts like a wine bar (Jazz music with nice decor) but has a beer list that was a great surprise.
Think of this place as a nice night out with your significant other. You can choose from 30+ wines, great domestic and craft and classic Belgian beers.
My wife and I were on our way to our Local in Lincoln Square and were lured in by the $5 Burger Wednesday and the 100+ beers. We live close to the Hopleaf and love it... but hate the crowds there. Fiddlehead will be our new Wednesday night spot.

I had been meaning to try Fiddlehead since it first opened but never got around to it. I had been in the space when it was still Square Kitchen, but hadn't ventured in since the change to Fiddlehead. Once I heard they had a good beer list, my motivation to give it a try increased exponentially.
It's a cozy place, with a nice long bar and a modern, somewhat kitchy decor. There is a tower of taps greeting you just as you walk in the front door- I noticed Ommegang Abbey and Tyranena Rocky's Revenge right away. Another tower of taps and a slew of bottles appear in the middle of the bar as you walk toward a table in the back part of the front room. The list is impressive for a place that really isn't a beer-centric establishment, though I would have liked my Ommegang Dubbel into a goblet or chalice instead of a pint glass (though I'm nitpicking at this point). Also, the pint glasses seemed a bit small- I think they might have only been 12oz instead of the 16oz pints normally seen. I'm gonna have to check on that next time- $6 isn't bad for a 16oz pint of some pretty good beers, but for 12oz. that's a little pricey. As for other beverages, my wife ordered a wine flight and really enjoyed it.
The food was excellent for a neighborhood joint and was priced fairly. I had rack of lamb and wife had scallops- both were on the nightly specials list. We passed on dessert but the menu looks really good. The cheese and small plates also sounded tasty- could be an option for a quick pop-in while walking around Lincoln Square on a nice day.
The service was fantastic. Our server was very friendly and attentive and really seemed knowledgable on both the beer and wine lists. He was also very knowledgable regarding my wife's wheat and gluten intolerance- he proactively checked on the menu before she asked about any particular dishes. If you are dating or married to someone with a what/gluten intolerance, particularly one as severe as my wife's, you understand the value of finding new restaurants that are willing and able to accommodate you.
As for more beer-related items, it appears they are really trying to increase their beer advocacy. Our waiter mentioned the owner is trying to set up a beer dinner for the very near future, and hopefully more to come after that.
In summary, I really enjoyed Fiddlehead. Very good beer list, good wine list for the wife (she can't drink beer and loves wine, not trying to be sexist by suggesting girls drink wine and boys drink beer), great food and fair prices (though I will have to check on those pints and perhaps suggest proper glassware for certain beers). What more could you want from a restaurant close enough to walk to? Not much in my opinion. I feel pretty confident this will be a neighborhood favorite as long as we're living in Lincoln Square.

Stopped in to check out the changes, it was pretty similar to the Fiddlehead interior-wise, it looks like they took out the rail that used to be between the bar and dining area. A second dining area with a fireplace and couches was in the back.
New menu with heartier "gastropub" fare, lots of duck... duck confit poutine, smoked breast and duck prosciutto on the charcuterie menu. Italian coppa was a thick cut and very tasty.
Taps were pretty good, seemed to be rotating a few seasonals. Opted for a Daisy Cutter. Vibe was sort of modern and upscale, less cozy and worn in. Good dinner place or pit stop for a quick beer-friendly snack for sure.
January 2011: Fiddlehead Cafe is "reconcepted" and is now Fork.

Really excellent service at the bar. Expanded tap selection also, they put in another tower and have 20 taps now. BCS, DFH 90 min, Daisy Cutter, and a few other premium gems. What really shines here is the cheese & dessert menu. We shared a creme brulee with a garnish of blackberries that was a nice pairing with an Arcadia London Porter. The bartender made sure we were taken care of, even made a custom shandy for the lady. Recommended as a secondary craft beer/upscale dining spot in Lincoln Square if you get tired of the Bad Apple.

I guess you could call this a "fern bar", since it's upscale, decorated with ferns, and named after one...On a sunday the brunch crowd was in full effect, I was the only one at the bar. The bar was on the left and separated from the carpeted dining area by a metal railing. Again it had an upscale feel, sort of modern but still somewhat cozy. They are primarily a restaurant and wine bar, but there's a decent beer list, with talk of expanding in the near future.
Tap highlights were Fullers London Pride, 2 Brothers Domaine Du Page, and Chambly Noire. Unibroue was the most represented with 5-6 selections, served in branded glassware. In bottles they also had DFH Raison D'Etre, Matilda, Duvel, and a few others. There were a number of macros on the small list as well.
To me, the highlight was the cheese menu, which had a couple dozen options to pair up with the beer. I tried the Persian Fetta, and Grayson, which were both new to me and tasty. David the beer buyer was there, and we chatted about beer for a bit. He mentioned they hosted a pig roast with Flossmoor in their backyard last summer. Hope they are able to repeat this event someday.
Worth a stop for brunch or dinner paired with a quality craft beer in Lincoln Square.
