Got this one on draft at Clybourn Brewery. Pours deep brown with a little froth. Smell is roasty with hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is of roasted coffee and very bitter chocolate. Finish is a bit funky. More carbonation than expected. Overall, its ok but there are so many better options....

On-tap at the Clybourn location.
A: Poured a dark, dark red, damn near black color (or lack thereof), with a soft, sticky, mocha head. Looks great.
S: Very roasty, crossing into porter territory even. This may sound like a cut, but this phenomenon really isn't that unusual in this style.
T: If I were to taste this sight unseen, I would have most likely blurted out porter upon first sip. Very flavorful, with tons of roast, yet non-candy-like in sugar content.
M: Here is where it strays from porter territory: It's much cleaner in its finish and not nearly as sticky. Still, creamy and delectable, great carbonation, and only some mild lacing.
O: The last half dozen or so Schwarzbiers I've had have been spot on. Should I give Goose Island the credit, or am I just becoming a fan of the style in general? Nevertheless, this was pretty tasty.

Served in a stein at the Clybourn brewpub.
I can see sleeping being easy with this particular Night Light on all the time... Anyway, it pours a very dark ruby-brown topped by over a finger of sandy khaki foam. The nose comprises toasted sourdough, light coffee, very light roasted malts, and light toasted marshmallow. The taste brings in more of the same, with more roasty and toasty action, more coffee, and a touch of char in the back. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a nice little schwarzbier, one of the fuller-flavored sessionable options around.
