Rhubarb saison? Intriguing. The beer is orange.with a good amount of head sitting on top. Pretty hazy. Almost the look of peach juice. Initially I am hit with a mild sulfery note that diminishes. It is followed by lots if orange. Can't pick out rhubarb but it has been years since I have had it so I could just could just be missing it. Mild spice balances the fruit. Flavor is intense peppery saison yeast and orange. Very light and refreshing. Good carbonation.

Served in a tulip glass at the Blybourn brewpub.
Finishing this visit off with a brand new tap, a saison brewed with Michigan rhubarb, part of their Farmer's Market series (apparently the rhubarb came from Mick Klug Farms). Right on. It pours a murky auburn, populated with a lot of light-colored particulate matter, topped by a finger of cream-white foam. The nose comprises blood orange, tangerine, mandarin orange, sourdough, and light black pepper. Honestly, since I don't know what rhubarb smells like (or looks or tastes like, for that matter...), for all I know I could just be typing "rhubarb" here. The taste holds notes of tangerine, peach, clove, lemon zest, and light black pepper. Things aren't as rounded, as fleshed-out (I guess that's how I should put it), as in the smell. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry-ish finish. Overall, a solid fruited saison, one that really makes me want to hunt down some rhubarb, if for no other reason than to find out what the hell it really is...
