A new smoked helles? Sign me up, chief! It pours a clear golden straw topped by a half-finger of white foam. The nose comprises light hickory smoke, light wheat, and a touch of mild cream cheese tucked in the background. The taste begins with a wave of dark yet mild hickory smoke, then a straight bit of wheat-y biscuit, then a finishing flourish of mild flowers. Through the final two steps, though, runs a soft undercurrent of char-like smoke. The body is pretty light, with a light moderate carbonation and a crisply dry finish. Overall, a pretty nice smoked helles, one in which the smoke is indeed the centerpiece, but a less-than-ostentatious one, one that doesn't o'erwhelm all else. Good times.
