Served in a tulip glass at the Clybourn brewpub.

This, coupled with Midway IPA? Must be an airplane theme rocking the Island right now... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear sunrise amber topped by a finger of light dirty cream-white foam. The nose comprises caramel, light leek, and pine resin. Things seem both overly malty and sharply hoppy at random intervals. Odd. The taste holds notes of caramel, orange peel, pine sap, and light balsa. Near the end, a sharp bitterness, as vague as it is sharp, pervades. It's not as detrimental to the experience as the smell, thankfully. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a very lightly syrupy feel. Overall, I wasn't the biggest fan of this beer. The flavors seemed awkward, and things were just too thick and heavy for me.

A - Transparent orange beer with a beige head that left some decent lacing on the sides of my glass.

S - Decent malt backbone, some tropical fruit hops aroma, and some pine resin and bitterness.

T - Pretty sweet but there's probably a bit too much unpleasant pine going on there. Tropical fruit, caramel malts, standard stuff. Not bad, but not something I'd be excited to have again.

M - Medium bodied, decent carbonation, a little bit of an oily finish.

O - Solid DIPA, but not necessarily memorable.

arrived a crystal clear golden orange with a single finger of bright white head.

Big aroma of tropical fruit, pine and candy sugar.

Tasted of tropical fruits, resiny pine and light caramel malts.

Medium bodied, a bit sticky and moderately carbonated.

I'm glad I tried this one. A solid IIPA from Goose Island.

Served in a tulip at GI-Cly 2/10/11.

A: Served a striking blood orange color with a light orange plop of foam on top. Sadly, retention was a little short lived and a bare minimum of lace was left behind.

S: Started off with a healthy dose of pineeapple and apricot, which I was digging, but was turned off (just a little) by some slightly over the top pine.

T: A lot like the smell but the pine was folded into the mix with a little more finesse.

M: Pretty respectable DIPA mouthfeel with appropriate thickness. Oily hops plaster to everything in my mouth.

D: This was nice but in no way is it worth a $10 pour.

I had this on tap at the Clybourn brewpub. The menu notes: "Big on flavor and aromatics, this double IPA was hopped with over 15 lbs of Citra and Simcoe hops. It tastes and smells like juicy tropical fruit with a hint of northwest pine"

This came across as a decent DIPA, maybe a little run of the mill but at least more hop-centric than malt-balanced.

It was a clear bright orange beer with a finger of white foam. Strong Citra nose, lots of orange and a little grapefruit, very sweet smelling. The malts take a backseat in flavor but provide a caramel base, they add something to the body too. Sticky and resiny, this is a strong DIPA, or at least the ABV seems apparent in the taste a little. Recommended.

On tap at the pub...The body is bright dark orange, but totally clear, very cool. An off white head leaves a thin cap, with great lacing, stellar...The aroma is really successful in that the citra hops come across as orangey and sweet but they are literally cut but the balance of the other hops which reigns it in with some nice bitter pine. I often find the citra overpowering and boring after a bit, this is a great way to address that. Some nice malty caramel takes the focus off hops being the main focus too. Really nice...I had so much hope for the taste but lets me down by being way to sweet throughout. The citra that was in check before dominates with a piney alcohol feel and taste that is so typical of a dipa. These hops don't break up the citra enough and the malt character vanishes. I feel like I'm drinking a canister of orange scented car spray.

Great concept but needs so more tweaks before I can recommend.

Based upon that description I was eagerly awaiting diving into this big juicy/fruity DIPA, but what I got was something a bit different...

The beer pours an almost totally clear amber color. Average layer of white foamy head that leaves sticky lacking around the glass. Aroma has some very enticing fruity and hoppy notes, but the flavor is dominated by the bitter/piney hop aspects. There is a long grassy finish as well - it reminds me of the better "west coast" IPAs I've had in this regard. However this long, bitter takes away from the drinkability a bit.

Overall it is an enjoyable beer, but I was expecting just a little bit more out of it. Definitely worth trying however.
