Found this one deep in the cellar...22oz bottle (bottled on 4/10/08) poured into a Portsmouth 20th Anniversary glass.

A - Pours a bit muddy, medium brown in color, floating particulate, strong carbonation bubbles and a finger of creamy tan head with foamy lacing on the glass.

S - Sweet malt, grainy with nice caramel notes, mild molasses. Hops are practically non-existant, touch of roasted malt.

T - Malty base, roasty with a hint of coffee, caramel sweetness, touch of astringency, some earthy dirtlike flavors.

M - Medium body with a mid level carbonation that is very creamy. Warm, mild sweetness and roasted malts and a mild hop presence make for a super smooth beer. Easy drinking and quite sessionable.

O - Wasn't sure what to expect out of this one...a lower alcohol beer that has been sitting in my cellar for four years...could go either way. Happily, this still is a pretty solid beer. Not sure what it was like at release time, but it is aging pretty well. Whatever hops were there have largely disappeared and left this as a smooth malty beer that goes down easily. A bit sad that I missed this fresh, but happy that it still is a good, tasty beer.

Deep brown maduro. Slight tan head. Keeps tiny ring around d the top.
Smokey flavor, deep flavors. Coats the tongue.
Overall a good brown. Like a strong porter or lightweight smoky stout.
Great with chocolate or a nice cigar.

On tap at Crabapples in Cheektowaga NY, poured into a pint glass.

A: Brown Hue, Passes Mild Light, White Head, Mild Lacing

S: English Malts, Milk Chocolate, Mild Tobacco

T: English Malts, Mild Chocolate, Mild Tobacco

M: Average Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Malty

Overall, an interesting choice from GI that seems a little out of their realm, decent but one and done.
