2011 750mL bottle of Lolita. Pours a cloudy amber color with a moderate head that leaves great lacing. Mild scent of raspberries, wine, and yeast. Some of the taste reminded me of olive juice. Taste was smooth and mellow with raspberries, wheats, and yeast. Rich, creamy, and very delicious.

22oz bottle into tulip. Bottled 11/12/11. Thanks to jbck109 for this one.
A: Pours an iced-tea color with a finger of very active light pink head that quickly faded away into nothingness. Very fizzy.
S: I could smell this beer as soon as I cracked the cap. Huge dominating notes of wine barrel, dry oak, and tart raspberries fill the air. I get some musty earth, raspberry puree, and a hint of caramel and cranberries too.
T: Follows the nose with vinous oak, lightly tart raspberries, and mellow earthy must. Beer is buttery and the fruit is fresh tasting. There is a decent acidic bite, and the finish is drying but not crazy.
M: Medium body, tart and drying mouthfeel, with sharp, almost fizzy, and tight carbonation. Oaky butteriness last long after the swallow. This is quite good actually.
O: A clean and easy drinking sour beer. Great fruity oaky flavors without being so over the top sour as to prevent consumption of the entire bottle. Thanks again, Jay!

Bottled 11/12/11 (nice palindrome, that)
Appearance: Pours a ruby-infused copper color; not much of a head appears and what does quickly fades to a ringlet, leaving just a few vague dots before disappearing completely
Smell: Tart raspberry purée and oak with hints of yeast phenols, including Brett; rather floral and seductive (hence the name, no doubt)
Taste: The sweeter side of the raspberry appears first, but it doesn't take long for the enticing tart elements to beckon; by mid-palate, the oak, the Brett and the wine barrel all parade their attributes; very dry, after the swallow, thanks to the Brett, with a lingering floral quality
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, with gentle carbonation; makes you want to pucker
Overall: Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

22oz bomber bottled on 11/12/11. Bottle # 1347.
Appearance: Pours beautiful, slightly hazed ruby red with some orange-ish highlights on the edges. It' pours a quick white fizzy head like a soda and fades almost instantly. Light carbonation bubbles filtering throughout.
Aroma: Raspberries. Musty and vinous. Little bit o' funk.
Taste: Big tart raspberry flavor upon first sp but seems to mellow out as you get adjusted to the beer. Slight funk and vinyard mustyness. Somewhat acidic. It is similar to drinking a light red wine. Plenty of fruit. Raspberry, tart lime citrus and sour apple. Slghtly oaky.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with rather light carbonation. Lingering tart fruity finish. A little on the acidic side and not quite as good as Juliet. Tart but not overly sour. Would like to see how this one ages.

22oz bottle. Bottled 11/12/11, #1433
Poured into a Russian River Goblet
A: Pours out a clear pretty pinkish, brownish, reddish color. Basically no head, even though there is carbonation. No lacing to speak of.
S: Raspberries and vinous notes. Smells of a fruity blush wine like others have mentioned. Doesn't smell overly tart or funky, although it is there.
T: On the front of the tongue you get some tart raspberry flavor. It's not overly sour at all. Very mild and delicious tart fruit notes. Very wine like actually. Finish leaves you lip smacking and wanting another sip.
M: Light to medium bodied.

Clear pink-brown colored with a medium head and poor retention. Aroma is not terribly exciting but good nonetheless: raspberries, slight funk, and very soft. Taste is low on fruit and heavier on wine with moderate tartness. Good mouthfeel with medium body and good carbonation.
Overall I'd have preferred had it been fruit forward. Not really a fan of the wine barrels.

On Tap at City Tap House for Philly Beer Week 2012, Served in a tulip glass.
Lolita comes out looking the part with a dark red deep amber look coming from the glass. This is much darker than expected going into blackberry color. Right off the tap, there was nothing in terms of head of even a flimsy foam, nothing, it's all good though. Smell is pretty integrated with raspberry scent over faint wine coming through when the warming takes place. It's pretty tame to tell you the truth. I don't get any funky scents coming up, just mainly fruit. Taste is pretty one sided towards the raspberry flavor which is nice and not artificial. The fruit just does not pop out for me as much as I would like. The wine is light to and the barrel flavor non existent. Some malt presence in the end with a slight tart hit that is not sour, don't go looking for a pucker bomb, Lolita is not the one for that. Body is less than medium with a trace of carb. Nice stuff, but not something I will be going for again.

Belgian influence of the most artful kind plays out in the wooden vats of Good Island. A raspberry ale introduced to a slew of wild yeast and micro flora produces extreme complexity and dynamic flavor.
Mildly hazed with hues of plumb red and peach sculpt the impressions of fruit even with its appearance. Fizzy head character rises quickly, fueled by high carbonation, but then quickly falls as well. With no real lacing action, I would have preferred better foam character, but the sharp acidity to come would have nothing to do with that.
Tart aromas of fresh and lightly under ripened raspberries fill the nose with slight dominance above complementary notes of wine must, lime-like acidity, vinous white Zinfandel, green apple cider, white grapes, mild sulfur, white wine vinegar, musty sea air, and weathered sawdust. Low in sweetness, there persists a nutty, pithy, and vanilla like scent that reminds me of almond paste.
Stronger raspberry character comes to life in the flavor profile, but not without further complementary flavors of dried cherries, tart (shy of sour) vinous white zin wines, mineral salts and briny yeast that come together like sea water and sea shells. Again, the light sweetness of vanilla and almond seem like a rhythmic dance throughout the must and tartness that power ahead. Low in bitterness, only a mild taste of wood and cheddar create sharpness to complement the low spicy phenols, wood tannin and cinnamon nuances. Old sun dried wood, mild sherry and balsamic notes provide a succulent taste that keeps me coming back with rather rapid succession.
Light bodied due to it's spritzy carbonation, strong acidic, and highly attenuated malt character, but not without a calm velvety powder texture from wood tanning and soft dextrin and seemingly light nutty oils. Sharp in finish, the dryness of wood and alcohol play out in a very refreshing but highly acidic aftertaste.
With so much tart fruitiness and dry sweetness, this beer is ideally suited to win over lovers of all sorts of wines and I find notes of minerally Greek whites, robust Chilean merlots, and simplified white zinfindales sprinkled all over this beer.

Poured this 22 oz. brown bottle into a Tripel Karmeliet glass. 2011 Vintage, bottled 11/12/11 #1450. The beer was a pretty amber color which was clear and bright. The cream colored head was modest and sizzled to nothing quickly.
The smell was of raspberries. Fruity with enough grain/malt to give it depth.
The taste was tart and fruity. Fresh raspberries and cherries. Rich malts fleshes out the big fruitiness. Parching, lovely woody dryness along with the tart makes the finish last a long time.
The mouthfeel was medium bodied with a subtle prickliness and modest carbonation. Very nice overall.

22 oz bottle dated 11/12/11 poured into a flute
A- A clear bright ruby red with a small off-white head.
S- Sweet raspberries, some sour notes, some barnyard funk, hint of wine.
T- Tart raspberries with a touch of sweetness, wine come out towards the finis, touch of oak, and some funk in the finish.
M- Smooth, crisp, light to medium body, dry.
O- A solid beer and worth the price tag, but not as good as Juliet. Good sour qualities, but I feel that it would have been if the raspberries added more sourness and weren't so sweet and tart.

To be honest, I’ve passed over this beer multiple times in the store; it’s $17+ for a bomber. But hey, if you never take the plunge, you’ll never get your hands on some of the world’s best beers.
Brewed a little over six months before the date of this tasting (“BOTTLED: 11/12/11”).
A: Bubbles…bubbles everywhere. Fizzes out thin and transparent with no retention, looking exactly like sparkling grape juice. Well, not exactly, since the color is more pink than purple – a rosy maroon, more like it. The head appeared for a fraction of second, though it was more a collection of popping bubbles than anything; now it just sits in my glass, with no retention or lacing. Goose Island, you have my attention.
S: Quite funky, more so than expected – a moderate brett scent with a bitter vinegar undercurrent. I’ve never had a nose with that kind of yeast presence, so I’m guessing it’s partly a product of the wine barrel aging. Other than that, it a mild smack of fresh raspberries, bready Belgian grains, blackberry jam (à la Cabernet Sauvignon), and oak humidor scents.
T: Tastes bright and acidic, but not like most fruit-forward beers; it’s gripping and alcoholic, like a well-made sweet wine. Fresh, sour-sweet raspberries, cherry puree, and lime entwine with a raspberry vinaigrette herbal note to create a long-lasting fruit musk. It’s tart and unsurprisingly tannic, giving off a very green, grassy flavor. It hits a note of olive juice, too, salty and slick to go with the green. Lemon peel and banana yeasts finish it out, leaving aftertastes of sweet apple skin and clean barrel wood.
M: Feels just like it looks: bubbly and champagne-like (just without the dryness). The bubbles are almost too much at time, but it remains drinkable throughout – after a few man-belches, of course.
O: If it didn’t feel like a watery soda, I’d be going back for a second bottle; it does, though, and the palate is distracted by it in the end. Still, it’s a tasty brew, especially if you like wine.

A: Orange/Copper. Little to no head.
S: Raspberry, funky sour, hay. Very strong fragrance.
T: Tart, Berry, Carbonation, Dry Finish.
M: Crisp Carbonated Tingle.
O: Definitely a good sour beer someone getting used to sours (Me) Great smells. Looks inviting. I like the tingle of carbonation and the complexities going on. Hard for me to spell out as my palate is still developing when it comes to fruit/sours. I'd give a 4.25 overall

Looks sort of like a beer, but mostly like a reddish brown wine. There's a head for a short period, but it's dissipates quickly. Slightly thinner and lighter than wine, but you get the idea.
The nose is very similar to some krieks I've had. A slight sour, vinegary scent that evolves into raspberry.
It's not great tasting. Almost a medicinal flavor, cough syrup like. A tart raspberry taste with just a hint of vinegar. Similar to red wine, just a bit thinner.
Very tart from beginning to end. Only slightly less harsh than a Belgian sour kriek. Not quite bitter, just tart and sour. Medium bodied. It's a dry finish, but it coats your tongue with dry. Puckers your lips.
Bottled on 11/12/11 so maybe I should have given it more time, but it's only barely drinkable and just beer-like. There's an alcohol heat, but not much taste. Not my favorite.

Had on tap at Acre for lunch during Chicago Craft Beer Week. Served in an unbranded tulip glass.
A: Pours a bright cherry red color with some dark orange hues mixed in around the edges when it catches the light. A frothy white heads forms on the pour and leaves some whispy lace behind is recedes to a thin collar for the remainder of the glass.
S: Some tart raspberry with a sweet earthy berry and light cab barrel coming up at the back end. Mild oak, but the tart raspberries are the main attraction in the nose.
T: The tart raspberry is up front and it's followed by a mild sour puckering in the jowls akin to biting into an unripe raspberry. The barrel plays nicely with a hearty oak character and light toffee sweetness. The cab flavors finish out the taste with an earthy cherry pit and smooth, vinous berry skin flavor.
M: Medium bodied. A little heavier than expected with a wild ale, but it had a nice zesty carbonation (possibly from being on tap?) that made it enjoyable.
O: A very solid beer, although I'd like to see it a touch lighter in the body and the nose wasn't near as complex as the taste. Would like to have again.

Got this about a two weeks back, distributor said they only got 5 cases?! So big thanks to Jeff at Winner for giving us a case! And John Michaelsen, I owe you a dollar my friend! The staff over priced it by one dollar! Sorry buddy!
22 oz bottle, 2011 vintage, bottled on 11/12/11, 9% abv.
Pours a reddish, copper color. with a 1-finger white head. Nice preservation.
Fresh raspberries in the nose at first. Then comes some great notes from the wine barrel. A bit disappointed as I would have liked more raspberries to fill the air!
Taste is excellent, a wonderful balance if raspberries, smooth but gentle sour, these all merge with wine notes. You also get a little oak note. The finish is very interesting, a wine like drying finish.
Overall la great beer, keeping two bottles for the cellar to be opened in 2014!
Very nice.

Pours a clear garnet color with minimal white head that dissipates immediately, leaving no lacing.
Aroma is dominated by raspberry and brett, with hints of oak and belgian yeast esters. A sweetness softens the profile. Cough syrup and herbal tea-like hops become evident as it warms.
Flavor is somewhat alcoholic, with sour brett characteristics mingling with raspberry tartness. There's an underpinning of oak and subtle belgian yeast flavor. Balance is definitely towards sour.
Body is somewhat substantial, with high fairly carbonation accentuating the sour flavor. There's a slight alcohol warmth.
Overall, a good sour, with lots of raspberry flavor, but lacking somewhat in complexity. I'd rather have a rodenbach grand cru.

Bomber bottle poured into a tulip.
A: Brilliant red/garnet hue with fluffy pink head that settles in a matter of seconds. No lacing is present, but carbonation is vigorous.
S: Tart raspberry, with some woody notes, and a kiss of citrus.
T: Tart all the way, with notes of raspberry, cherry, and some caramel notes. Finish is very dry and quite pleasing. Also a hint of the oak on the mid-palate.
Notes: Light, but alcohol is definitely present. For folks that love sours, this beer is definitely worth trying. Not the greatest on earth, but still solid. Lacks a bit in appearance, but stands out in nose and flavor. Considering the price, I would probably choose others first, but nonetheless a very good beer.

poured from bomber into a tulip. Pours a medium amber/strawberry color with a smaller head.
Shows off the sour characteristics right off the bat with some funk, sour cherries, berries, raspberries and some spices.
Medium bodied with a very smooth feel and flavors of sour cherries, raspberries, and some tart stawberries. Finishes nice and dry as well.

Vintage 2011. The label indicates the beer was bottled in November 2011.
The beer pours a fairly dark, rosey amber color with fairly good head retention and minimal lacing. The nose is attractive and fairly complex, as I pick up wine, light vinegar, cherry, raspberry and vanilla. The beer smells as if it will be on the tart side, and of course it is. The flavor profile otherwise replicates the nose, and there's no doubt this beer delivers a considerable amount of flavor. Also, while the beer is fairly tart with some light funk, I still pick up some noticeable cherry, apple and wine. Also, there is hint of tannic bitterness in the finish that is intriguing, and seemed to help dry out the finish. Mouthfeel is fairly full, though the beer is not at all heavy or tiring on the palate. Alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile, though you get a sense that it's up there a bit.
Pretty nice beer and one that grew on me as it warmed and seemed to open up in the glass. The flavor profile is pretty complex, and as noted above, there really is a considerable amount of flavor in this beer. Not sure I'd want to drink this again any time soon, but am still glad I had the opportunity to try it. Bottle price in my part of the world was $20, so obviously that's a consideration as well.

2011 vintage. 22oz. bottle served in a tulip. Poured a reddish gold with a finger of off white head. Tart fruit, oak and a little brett in the aroma. Tart raspberries to start and a long finish of oak and vanilla. Medium bodied. There is a lot going on here. Not super sour, but a nice acetic bite that was in balance with the rest of the beer. A pricey bottle, but I'm really glad that I pulled the trigger.

Thanks to lurchingbeast for hooking me up with this bottle.
Pours a dark ruby red color with a one finger pinkish foam head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Sporadic spots of lacig left behind.
Sweet vinous aroma that bursting with fresh organic raspberry, toasted oak, funky bugs and other vinous dark fruits. The raspberry presence is so strong that it almost smells artificial. This is countered by the earthy funk and toasted oak notes. Subtle acetic vinegar quality but not solvent smelling. Wine barrels are prominent with grape and other dark berries complimenting the raspberries.
Medium bodied with a strong raspberry presence that never becomes overly sweet or dominating. Funky, earthy bugs and wine barrel character provide nice balance. Dry toasted oak along with grape, currant and other dark berries. Nice tartness with a puckering feel and just a touch of acetic acid. Not harsh at all however with the sweetness keeping things in check. Pretty good and much better than the Madame Rose.

2011 vintage, bottled 12 November 2011. Enjoyed 11 May 2012, reviewed from notes.
Pours reddish amber, quite red, actually, with a 1-finger white head. Nice retention.
Smell is good, but not as potent as I'd like it to be. Some fruity berry sweetness and some lemony sour.
Taste is such a fine balance of raspberries and gentle smooth sour, blending together perfectly. It's a delicately executed balancing act between the sour and the fruit, with each one coming to the fore, then receding a bit, then coming back out front. Finish is an interesting vinous dryness.
Mouthfeel: highly carbonated, which is just right for this kind of beer. Light in weight, high carbonation, and a lovely dry finish.
A really really tasty sour. Reminds me a lot of RR Supplication - a fruity sour with an excellent balance between those two.

22 oz bottle, 2011 vintage, bottled on 11/12/11, 9% abv. V
Pours a fairly clear, reddish, copper color. No head to really speak of.
Fresh raspberries in the nose at first. Great notes from the wine barrel. A nice winey, oak note. A slight funky aroma, earthy as well.
Just slightly tart up front. Ripe berries merge with wine notes, followed up by some great oak tannins. A bit funky and earthy, but not overly sour. Drying finish.
Lighter to medium body, lower carbonation. A slight alcohol burn, but not overwhelming. Fantastic character added by the barrel here. I imagine a year or two in the cellar could make this a classic. Very nice.

Bottle shared by mdfb79. Thanks Dan.
The beer is copper to amber in color with a small white head that leaves sparse lacing on the glass. The aroma brings raspberries, berries, malt, wild yeast. Smells like a tasty American wild ale. The flavor is pleasant. Not remarkably funky or sour, but rather easy to drink. Light in body, but not thin. Raspberries and oak are the dominant flavors. I thought this was a really enjoyable brew, and would happily have it again.

Bottle dated 11/12/11... so how is it, that this just appeared in Saratoga Springs, NY a few weeks ago?
A- Pours like a cranberry juice/7-up mixture into my Ithaca Excelsior glass. Has a small head that fades immediately and leaves no lacing at all. Really nice carbonation at first, but that fades quickly as well.
S- Sour berries, yeasty funk, and hints of sweet malts. Gets a bit more barnyard/compost/horse poop notes as it warms up. Picking up hints of red grapes, sour green apples and some wood.
T- Sour raspberries and crab apples that tingle the tongue, nice red wine barrel tannins, and a funkiness that'd make Bootsy proud! The sweetness of the berries creeps in here and there, but tartness and compost are the major players here. I was really hoping for more funk/horse blanket/manure from this. I think the high acid of the fruit is knocking the Brett down a few pegs.
M- Not as much Brett funk as I was hoping for. Decently tart and puckering. Nice crisp mouthfeel... a touch dry with a nice sour apple raspberry kick. Starts out with really good carbonation, but that fades as it sits around warming up.
O- I had higher hopes for this GI Wild Ale. Gets much better as it sits around and warms, especially on the nose where it really opens up and comes alive. Unless I figure out something to cook and showcase this brew... this is a one and done for me. Glad I finally tried it, but wasn't really impressed. Nothing wrong with it to speak of, but very underwhelming overall.
